The Lenovo HDMI to VGA Monitor Adapter converts an HDMI output from a laptop to a VGA input on a projector or monitor, at up to 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz, on a 20 cm lead. Lenovo describes it as enabling interoperability of ThinkPad systems with commercial analogue projectors and displays, in extended or mirrored mode.
Read This Before Your Presentation: It Carries Picture, Not Sound
VGA is a video-only connector — it has no audio pins — and Lenovo publishes no audio output on this adapter. Plug a laptop into a projector through this and you will get a picture with no sound through the room's system. If your presentation has audio, run a separate 3.5 mm cable to the room's sound input, or plan to use the laptop's own speakers. Compatibility & Fit
The audio question, because it decides whether a presentation works. VGA carries video and nothing else — the connector has no audio pins at all. This adapter does not add any, and Lenovo makes no audio claim for it. So a laptop connected to a projector through this adapter will show a picture and produce no sound through the room's speakers. If your material has audio in it, the room will need a separate 3.5 mm cable from the laptop's headphone socket to its sound system. Ask us and we will supply one with the adapter.
Why anyone still buys HDMI to VGA in 2026. Because meeting rooms, lecture theatres, hotel function rooms and client sites across Singapore are still full of VGA projectors, and the person presenting rarely knows in advance which the room has. A 20 cm adapter in a laptop bag is cheap insurance. It is also, frequently, the only way to connect to older laboratory instruments, industrial displays and control panels.
If you need VGA more often than occasionally, buy a hub instead. Check which way round you need. This converts HDMI out to VGA in — a modern laptop to an old display. It does not work in reverse. If you need to get an old VGA source onto a modern HDMI screen, that is a different product and we can quote one.
