Why this page carries two specification tables

Lenovo's PSREF specification book is published per machine type, and it lists the processor, graphics, memory, storage, wireless card and warranty term as options the platform supports rather than as facts about any one part number. Lenovo's per-part-number pages are not readable by any automated tool. So this page keeps the two sources visibly apart: the build-sheet table states what our distributor records for this exact part number, and the PSREF table states what Lenovo publishes for the machine type. Where the two disagree we print both and say so rather than choosing for you, and anything neither source states is marked not stated rather than estimated.

The memory in this build and why the module count matters

The P8 runs eight memory channels, and Threadripper PRO bandwidth scales with how many of them are filled. This build is 8x 32GB RDIMM DDR5-4800 ECC, which populates all eight memory channels. That is the configuration to want: every channel is filled, so the machine reaches the bandwidth the platform is designed for rather than half of it.

Warranty on this configuration

Lenovo's published base warranty options for this machine type are 1-year, 2-year and 3-year limited onsite service, or no base warranty. The distributor build sheet for this part number states no warranty term at all, so this page makes no duration claim in its heading. An earlier version of this listing said "3 Years Local Warranty"; nothing we can source supports that figure for this part number. Ask us to confirm the exact term and service level on the quotation, and we will put it in writing.

Cooling is the one thing Lenovo does not publish

The P8 specification book contains no cooling or thermal section of any kind. Lenovo neither confirms nor denies liquid cooling, and states no cooler requirement even for the 350W Threadripper PRO parts. On a machine at this price that is the most conspicuous gap in the documentation, and it is why this page carries no cooling claim. If the machine is going into a warm room or a quiet one, ask us and we will get an answer from Lenovo rather than guess.

Rack mounting, and the rail kit that is not in the box

Lenovo publishes the P8 as 4U rack-mountable, but the rail kit is an option and is not supplied with the machine. At 39 litres and up to 22.7 kg this matters - if the plan is to rack it, the rails need to be on the same purchase order. Tell us and we will quote them alongside.

Lenovo's PSREF specification book is the authoritative source for the chassis and platform. Lenovo Press publishes no product guide for the ThinkStation P8, so the withdrawal-status channel available for ThinkSystem servers does not exist for this machine.

What warranty does this machine come with?

Lenovo publishes 1-year, 2-year and 3-year limited onsite service as the base options for this machine type, and the distributor build sheet for this part number does not record which was configured. That is why the heading claims no duration. Ask us and we will confirm the term in writing before you order.

How many graphics cards will it take?

It depends entirely on the card, and Lenovo publishes the ceiling per card rather than as one number: up to three RTX 6000 Ada Generation, or up to three RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Max-Q at 300W, or only one RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Workstation Edition at 600W. The Radeon PRO W7900 is triple-slot, so it occupies three slot positions. Tell us the card and we will tell you how many fit.

Is the 10 Gigabit network port standard or an option?

Standard. Lenovo fits two onboard network controllers on this machine - a Realtek RTL8111EP for Gigabit and a Marvell AQtion AQC-113 for 10 Gigabit - so you get a 10GbE port without spending an expansion slot on a card. That is a real difference from the P5, where 10 Gigabit is an add-in card.

Does it support Intel vPro or AMT?

No. This is an AMD platform and Lenovo publishes no vPro support for it. The wireless option is an AMD Wi-Fi 6E RZ616. If your fleet management depends on Intel AMT, this is not the machine and you should look at the P5 or a P3 Tower.

Does it have USB4 or Thunderbolt?

Only through an optional PCIe adapter, which uses up an expansion slot. There is no USB4 on the rear panel as standard. Factor that into the slot budget if you also want three graphics cards.

What does it actually draw from the wall?

Lenovo does not publish a total system power figure for any ThinkStation, and the configurator calculates it per build. The 1400W supply on this build is a capacity ceiling, not a consumption figure - multiplying it out will badly overstate what the machine uses. If you are sizing a UPS or a circuit, ask us and we will get the configuration-specific number.

Which applications is it certified for?

Lenovo names none. The specification book carries only a reference link to its workstation ISV certification site and lists no application, so this page claims certification for no software. Tell us the application and we will check it against Lenovo's current list.
