The APC NetShelter Basic Rack PDU AP7553 delivers up to 7,400 VA at 230 V and 32 A through twenty-four outlets, and takes no usable rack space at all. Mounted vertically in the rear channel of the enclosure, it is the high-capacity way to power a fully loaded rack without giving up a single U to the PDU itself.
32 A Commando Input for Serious Loads
A 3.05 m captive IEC 60309 32 A 2P+E cord feeds the strip. That is a fixed electrical connection rather than a wall plug, so the rack needs a 32 A commando outlet - the trade-off for roughly double the capacity of the 16 A AP7552 on an otherwise identical strip.
Twenty C13 and Four C19 Outlets
Twenty IEC C13 outlets handle servers, switches and appliances; four IEC C19 outlets take the 16 A C20-corded equipment - blade chassis, storage shelves, large core switches - that a C13-only strip cannot serve. Twenty-four outlets is enough to cable an entire rack from one strip.
A 1.6 Metre Full-Height Strip
The AP7553 measures 1,619 mm long, 56 mm wide and 44 mm deep and weighs 5.57 kg, sized to run the height of a standard 42U enclosure. Rack brackets and a toolless mounting kit are supplied. Third-party listings sometimes quote a much shorter length for this part, so check your enclosure against the 1,619 mm figure before ordering.

Compatibility & Load Planning
What you can plug into it. Twenty IEC C13 outlets for C14-corded equipment - servers, switches, routers, appliances - plus four IEC C19 outlets rated to 16 A for C20-corded devices such as blade chassis, storage shelves and large core switches. The outlet layout is identical to the 16 A AP7552; only the input and the capacity differ.
Load planning. 32 A and 7,400 VA (7.4 kW) at 230 V. That is genuinely a full-rack capacity, but there is no meter on this model to tell you how close you are running - so either measure upstream at the UPS or row PDU, or choose a metered model. Allow headroom for the inrush when an entire rack restarts together after an outage.
Rack fit. 0U vertical, 1,619 mm long, 56 mm wide, 44 mm deep, 5.57 kg. It mounts in the rear vertical channel and costs you no rack units. Check that your enclosure is tall enough and has the channel depth to take a 1.6 m strip - in a short or wall-mount cabinet no 0U strip will fit at all, and the 1U AP9559 (16 A, ten C13 plus two C19) is the nearest practical alternative, at roughly half the capacity.
Feeding it - read this before ordering. The input is a captive 3.05 m IEC 60309 32 A 2P+E commando cord. There is no plug-in-the-wall option: the rack needs a 32 A commando socket on a dedicated circuit, which usually means an electrician and a lead time. If that circuit does not already exist, the 16 A AP7552 on a C20 inlet is far easier to deploy.
Management and monitoring. None, by design. No meter, no display, no LEDs, no network port - Schneider publishes none of those fields for the AP7553. Descriptions of this part elsewhere sometimes mention LED status indicators or surge protection; neither is supported by any Schneider document for this model.

What supply does the AP7553 need?
A 32 A IEC 60309 2P+E commando outlet on a dedicated circuit. The 3.05 m input cord is captive, so there is nothing to buy, but the socket itself is a fixed electrical installation. If your rack does not already have one, factor in an electrician - or choose the 16 A AP7552, which uses a straightforward C20 inlet.
How long is the strip?
1,619 mm - about 1.6 metres, sized for a full-height 42U enclosure, 56 mm wide and 44 mm deep. Shorter figures circulate for this part in third-party data; measure your vertical channel against 1,619 mm before ordering.
Does it have surge protection or status LEDs?
Neither. No Schneider document for the AP7553 contains a surge specification, a joule rating, or any mention of LEDs or a display. Both claims circulate in third-party descriptions of this part and neither is supported. Surge and sag protection belongs upstream at a UPS.
Can I meter the load on this PDU?
Not on the PDU itself - it is a Basic model with no meter and no network port. You can meter upstream at the UPS or row PDU, or choose a metered rack PDU. In this catalogue the AP8853 is the closest metered equivalent: also 0U, also 32 A and 7.4 kW on an IEC 60309 cord, with unit and bank-level metering, an LCD and a built-in network port.
How does it differ from the AP7552?
Only the input and the capacity. Same 1,619 mm strip, same twenty C13 and four C19 outlets. The AP7553 is 32 A / 7.4 kW on an IEC 60309 commando cord; the AP7552 is 16 A / 3.68 kW on a C20 inlet. Choose on the circuit you have available and the total draw you need.
Is 32 A overkill for my rack?
Often, yes - a typical Singapore SME comms cabinet of switches and a couple of servers rarely exceeds 16 A. The 32 A models earn their place in dense compute or storage racks, or where you want one strip to carry a rack that will grow.
