TP-Link Tapo A201 Solar Panel, 2.5 W Max Charging, Type-C, 0.25 m + 3.8 m Cable
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
TP-Link Tapo Solar Panel (Tapo A201) - 1 Year Local Warranty
The Tapo A201 is the compact Tapo solar panel — 173.42 x 120.42 x 15.7 mm, published at 5.2 V and a maximum charging power of 2.5 W, with a Type-C output on a short 0.25 m tail plus a 3.8 m extension wire. IP65 rated, wall-mounted, and supplied with a Type-C to Micro USB adapter so it also fits older Micro USB cameras. Its published camera list is wider than the A200's.
The Compact Panel, With a Type-C Output
The A201 is the smaller of TP-Link's two Tapo panels at 173.42 x 120.42 x 15.7 mm (6.83 x 4.74 x 0.62 in), against the A200's 237.96 x 174.85 x 17.5 mm. Its output is Type-C rather than Micro USB, and TP-Link includes a Type-C to Micro USB adapter in the box for cameras with a Micro USB charging port. The smaller footprint is easier to tuck under an eave or onto a narrow gate post where the larger panel will not sit cleanly.
Two-Part Cabling: 0.25 m Tail Plus a 3.8 m Extension
Where the A200 has one fixed 4 m lead, the A201 splits it. TP-Link publishes a solar panel charging cable length of 0.25 m and a solar panel extension charging cable length of 3.8 m, with the extension wire supplied in the box. That lets the panel mount right beside the camera on the short tail alone, with no metres of surplus cable to dress, or reach further with the extension fitted. Cable zip ties, screw caps and a base cover are included for tidying the run.
2.5 W Maximum Charging Power
TP-Link publishes a maximum charging voltage of 5.2 V and a maximum charging power of 2.5 W for the A201 — a lower figure than the A200, consistent with the smaller panel area. TP-Link's own reference figure for the A201 is 45 minutes of sunlight per day, against 30 minutes for the A200, and both are laboratory figures carrying published caveats. Choose the A201 where the mounting spot gets good uninterrupted sun and space is tight.
Wider Camera Support, With One Caveat on the C425
TP-Link publishes the A201 as working with Tapo C400, Tapo C410, Tapo C420, Tapo C425 and more, without naming hardware versions. A footnote adds that the panel is compatible with all Tapo Battery Security Cameras, but that because of the Tapo C425's magnetic base design it exclusively supports detached installation on that camera. As with the A200, a panel can only connect to one camera — no splitting, no daisy chain.
IP65, Wall-Mounted, Six Waterproof Gaskets
The A201 is IP65 rated and mounts to a wall on its adjustable bracket with six screws and six anchors, two mounting templates and a base cover. TP-Link supplies six waterproof gaskets for sealing the cable joint — worth fitting carefully, as that joint is the weak point in a monsoon. Published operating range is -20 to 45 C, storage -40 to 60 C, at 10 to 90 percent relative humidity, non-condensing. Certification is published as CE, FCC, RoHS and RCM. TP-Link publishes no net weight for this panel.
Ideal For
Singapore installs on a Tapo C400, C410, C420 or C425 where the panel must sit close to the camera or in a tight spot, and for newer Type-C cameras where the A201's native connector saves an adapter. It is also the panel to pick when the camera list matters: the A201 names the C410 and does not restrict itself to specific hardware versions, where the A200 does. Specify the A200 instead if the site is shaded and the extra output is worth having. Supplied by SourceIT with local Singapore warranty, GST invoice and project pricing on request.

Published Footnotes
TP-Link publishes the following caveats for this model: "*1: A solar panel can only connect to one camera. Tapo Solar Panel is compatible with all Tapo Battery Security Cameras, but due to the unique magnetic base design of Tapo C425, it exclusively supports detached installation."; "*2: 45 min of sunlight time is based on standard environmental conditions (1000W/m2, 25℃, AM1.5) and specified working scenes (100 events triggered per day). Actual required time of sunlight may vary."; and "*3: Actual charging power may vary based on installation location, weather conditions, temperature, and other environmental factors."
TP-Link does not publish a net weight, a bracket adjustment angle, a panel cell efficiency figure, or a separate maximum power output figure for the Tapo A201, so none is quoted here. TP-Link does not publish a combined total cable length either; the two published lengths are shown separately above rather than added together.
Compatibility & Software Support
This is the A201's own published compatibility list. The Tapo A200 panel publishes a different and narrower list — do not read one across to the other.
| Supported Cameras | Works with Tapo C400, Tapo C410, Tapo C420, Tapo C425 and more. |
| Footnote on Scope | TP-Link's specification table reads "Works with Tapo C400, Tapo C410, Tapo C420, Tapo C425 and more." Its footnote reads "Tapo Solar Panel is compatible with all Tapo Battery Security Cameras, but due to the unique magnetic base design of Tapo C425, it exclusively supports detached installation." |
| Hardware Versions | TP-Link names no specific camera hardware versions for the A201, unlike the A200 where v1.0/1.20 is specified for the C420 and C425 |
| Tapo C425 Note | Supported, but detached installation only — the C425's magnetic base rules out the attached arrangement |
| Cameras Per Panel | One. A solar panel can only connect to one camera |
| Camera Port | Type-C native. A Type-C to Micro USB adapter is included for cameras with a Micro USB charging port |
| Tapo App | The camera is managed in the Tapo app for Android and iOS. The panel has no network connection and does not appear as its own device |
| Tapo Hub | Not required by the panel. Whether a hub is needed depends on the camera |
| Voice Control (Google Assistant / Alexa) | Not applicable to the panel. Voice control is a camera function where TP-Link publishes it for that camera |
| Storage (microSD / Tapo Care Cloud) | Not applicable — the panel stores no video |
| Battery Still Required | Yes. The panel charges the camera's battery, it does not replace it. A Tapo A100 spare pack is a separate item and fits only the Tapo C420, C400 and D230 |

Frequently Asked Questions — Tapo A201
How is the A201 different from the A200?
The A201 is the smaller panel — 173.42 x 120.42 x 15.7 mm against 237.96 x 174.85 x 17.5 mm — with a Type-C output, a published maximum charging power of 2.5 W, and cabling split into a 0.25 m tail plus a 3.8 m extension. The A200 is larger, outputs Micro USB on one fixed 4 m cable, and publishes 4.5 W. They also name different camera lists.
Which cameras does the A201 work with?
TP-Link publishes Tapo C400, Tapo C410, Tapo C420, Tapo C425 and more, with a footnote stating compatibility with all Tapo Battery Security Cameras. On the C425, only detached installation is supported because of that camera's magnetic base.
Will it fit a camera with a Micro USB port?
Yes. The panel's own output is Type-C, and TP-Link includes a Type-C to Micro USB adapter in the box for that case.
How much cable do I get?
TP-Link publishes a 0.25 m charging cable on the panel and a 3.8 m extension charging cable supplied separately in the box. Fit the extension only if you need the reach; TP-Link does not publish a combined total length.
What warranty does SourceIT provide?
One year local Singapore warranty, with a GST invoice on every order. If you also buy a Tapo A100 battery pack, note that batteries carry a shorter six-month term.
