The SM6110-SR is Omada's short-reach 25 Gigabit optic: an 850 nm multi-mode SFP28 module that runs dual rate at 25.78 Gbps or 10.31 Gbps over duplex LC fibre. It reaches 70 m on OM3 and 100 m on OM4 at 25G, or 300 m on OM3 when stepped down to 10G, drawing no more than 1 W. It is the module to fit when the 25G link stays inside one building.
Dual Rate: 25.78 Gbps Today, 10.31 Gbps Where You Need Reach
One part number covers two speeds. At 25.78 Gbps the SM6110-SR carries a full 25 Gigabit Ethernet link over multi-mode fibre; dropped to 10.31 Gbps it behaves as a 10G optic and stretches to 300 m on OM3. That matters when a building's existing multi-mode plant is longer than 100 m — rather than re-pulling single-mode, the same module can run the link at 10G until the cabling is upgraded. It also means spares inventory does not have to be split between 10G and 25G short-reach parts.
850 nm Multi-Mode Optics on OM3 or OM4
The module transmits at 850 nm into 50/125 µm or 62.5/125 µm multi-mode fibre through a duplex LC/UPC connector, the standard short-reach combination in a data centre or a riser. TP-Link publishes the reach against fibre grade rather than a single headline number: 70 m on OM3 and 100 m on OM4, both at 25.78 Gbps. Multi-mode optics and patch cords cost materially less than single-mode over these distances, which is why short-reach modules are the usual choice for switch-to-switch links inside a rack row.
Under 1 W, DDM and Hot Swappable
Power consumption is no more than 1 W, so a fully populated line of SFP28 slots adds very little to the switch's thermal load. Digital Diagnostic Monitoring is supported, giving the host switch real-time optical transmit and receive levels, temperature, bias current and supply voltage — the readings an engineer uses to tell a dirty connector from a failing laser without pulling the module. The module is hot swappable and SFP-MSA compliant, so it seats and re-seats in a live chassis.
Standards-Based, Including Fronthaul Protocols
The SM6110-SR is built to IEEE 802.3ae and 802.3by, the 10G and 25G Ethernet standards, and to the SFF-8402, SFF-8431, SFF-8432 and SFF-8472 mechanical, electrical and management interface specifications that make an SFP28 cage an SFP28 cage. TP-Link additionally lists eCPRI and CPRI support, the fronthaul protocols used between radio equipment and baseband units, alongside TCP/IP — so the part is not limited to enterprise switching.

Compatibility & Software Support
This is a passive pluggable transceiver, not a managed Omada device. It carries no firmware of its own, needs no licence, and does not appear in an Omada Controller as a separate device — the host switch owns the port, reports the link, and exposes whatever diagnostics it supports. Adopting the switch into an Omada Software, Hardware or Cloud-Based Controller is what puts the port under central management.

Can the SM6110-SR run at 10G instead of 25G?
Yes. It is a dual-rate module, specified at 25.78 Gbps and 10.31 Gbps. At the lower rate TP-Link publishes a reach of 300 m on OM3 fibre, against 70 m on OM3 at the full 25G rate.
What fibre do I need?
