The TL-SM5110-LR is the long-reach member of TP-Link's 10G SFP+ optics range: a 1310 nm single-mode transceiver that carries a full-duplex 10 Gbps link up to 10 km over 9/125 µm fibre. It is the module to specify when the two switches are in different buildings, on different floors of a campus, or separated by a distance no multi-mode or copper option can cover.
Ten Kilometres of Single-Mode Reach on One Module
Where the 850 nm multi-mode SM5110-SR tops out at 300 m, the TL-SM5110-LR uses a 1310 nm laser over 9/125 µm single-mode fibre to reach 10 km. That is the practical difference between linking two racks in one comms room and linking two sites across an industrial estate. It runs at the full 10 Gbps data rate for the whole distance, conforming to IEEE 802.3ae, so there is no throughput penalty for the extra reach.
Digital Diagnostic Monitoring for Optical Links You Can See Into
Long fibre runs fail slowly. A connector picks up contamination, a splice degrades, optical power drifts down — and the link stays up while error rates climb. DDM support lets the host switch read the module's live optical transmit and receive power, temperature and supply voltage, so a degrading run shows up as a trend on a monitoring graph rather than as an outage. On an inter-building link, that visibility is the difference between a scheduled clean and an unplanned site visit.
Hot-Swappable, MSA-Compliant and Powered by the Host Port
The TL-SM5110-LR uses the standard SFP+ footprint and is SFP-MSA compliant, so it seats in any SFP+ cage that accepts a standard module. It is hot-swappable, meaning a module can be replaced in a live chassis without taking the switch down. Power comes from the 3.3 V host rail — no external supply, no separate cabling. The LC duplex connector uses one fibre strand for transmit and one for receive.
Rated for the Comms Room, Not Just the Bench
The module is specified for 0–70 °C operating and -40–85 °C storage, with 10–90% RH operating humidity, non-condensing. Those are commercial-grade figures that suit a ventilated comms room or a rack in an office riser; they are not extended-temperature industrial ratings. It carries FCC and CE marks and measures 56.7 x 13.9 x 10.35 mm.

The TL-SM5110-LR is a passive optical module. It carries no firmware or licence of its own and is not adopted into an Omada controller — the host switch owns the port.

Single-mode and multi-mode optics are not interchangeable: an LR module will not link to an SR module, and 9/125 µm fibre is required end to end. TP-Link does not publish a per-switch compatibility list for this module — tell us your switch model and we will confirm before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions — TL-SM5110-LR
What is the difference between this and the SM5110-SR?
Wavelength and fibre type. The TL-SM5110-LR is 1310 nm single-mode and reaches 10 km; the SM5110-SR is 850 nm multi-mode and reaches 300 m on OM3. They will not link to each other — both ends of a run must be the same type.
Do I need two of them?
Yes, unless the far end already has a compatible 10GBase-LR transceiver fitted. A fibre link needs a matching module at each end.
Does it need any configuration?
No. It draws power from the host port and presents a link as soon as the fibre is connected. If your switch supports DDM, the module's optical power and temperature readings become visible in the switch interface.
What warranty does SourceIT provide?
