Gigabit Fibre Uplinks Over Multimode
The NETGEAR AGM731F is a 1000BASE-SX SFP (mini-GBIC) transceiver for short-reach Gigabit Ethernet over multimode fibre. It meets IEEE 802.3z and plugs into any SFP slot on NETGEAR managed and smart switches to add a fibre uplink between wiring closets, floors or buildings on a campus.
Reach by Fibre Grade
According to NETGEAR's installation guide, the AGM731F runs up to 275 m over OM1 (62.5/125 µm), 275–550 m over OM2 and up to 550 m over OM3 (50/125 µm) laser-optimised multimode fibre, using a standard LC duplex connector.
Low Power, Hot-Swappable
The module draws just 1.1 W, has an MTBF of more than 10 years according to NETGEAR, and is RoHS compliant with UL 60950-1 / CSA-C22.2 No. 60950-1 safety certification. The switch automatically detects the module when it is inserted.

NETGEAR states the AGM731F fits the SFP interfaces of all NETGEAR Fully Managed switches, all Smart switches and the JGS524F, and meets the SFP GBIC standard for use in any SFP GBIC-compliant slot. It is also listed as a supported Gigabit SFP module in the NETGEAR M7100 series datasheet.
Software
No drivers or software are needed — NETGEAR switches detect the module automatically when it is inserted.
Choosing the Right Module
Use the AGM731F for multimode fibre runs up to 550 m. For single-mode fibre up to 10 km choose the AGM732F; for 10G links see the AXM761/AXM762/AXM764 SFP+ modules below.
