The APC SMX120BP is the 120 V DC external battery pack for the 4U tower/rack Smart-UPS X models — the short-depth 2200 VA and 3000 VA builds. It stores 1200 VAh across ten 12 V blocks per string and two replacement cartridges, connecting straight to the UPS battery bus so the UPS manages charging, runtime estimation and shutdown timing across the whole string.
4U Chassis, Only 483 mm Deep
This is a 4U pack measuring 432 mm wide, 178 mm high and 483 mm deep, weighing 60.91 kg net. The short 483 mm depth is the point of it — it matches the short-depth 4U Smart-UPS X chassis and fits comms cabinets that will not take a full-depth server rack unit. If your cabinet is shallow, this is the pack that goes in; if you are running the 2U rack Smart-UPS X instead, you need the deeper SMX120RMBP2U. It converts between tower and rack orientation with the supplied brackets, bezels and cleats.
Scale Runtime Without Replacing the UPS
The Smart-UPS X display recognises as many as ten packs on one UPS, and Schneider's own installation guide notes there is no hard architectural limit beyond that. For a Singapore server room where the generator takes time to pick up, or where there is no generator at all and you simply need long enough to shut down cleanly, stacking packs is a far cheaper path than moving to a larger UPS.
Specified for Tropical Operating Conditions
The pack is rated 0–40 °C and 0–95% relative humidity with an operating altitude to 3,048 m — comfortably inside what a Singapore comms room presents, although sealed lead-acid always lasts longer in a cooler cabinet. It is Green Premium, mercury free, REACh SVHC free and RoHS pro-active compliant. SourceIT supplies it with a GST invoice and local Singapore warranty support.

Schneider Electric does not publish a recharge time or a safety-agency certification list for this pack. It is not described as hot-swappable — in fact the official installation guide directs you to remove the batteries before installation — so we do not claim it. The replacement cartridge part number is widely quoted in the trade as APCRBC143 but we could not confirm it in a Schneider-authored document for the pack itself, so we have left it out rather than risk sending you the wrong cartridge; ask us and we will confirm against the label. Barcode data on this SKU is inconsistent between sources. Note also that although this pack is commonly described as “short depth”, that phrase is not part of Schneider's official product name. Where Schneider Electric does not publish a figure for this exact model, SourceIT leaves it out rather than estimate it from a similar part number.
Compatibility & Runtime
The SMX120BP is the 120 V pack for the 4U tower/rack Smart-UPS X models. It is not interchangeable with the 2U SMX120RMBP2U despite both being 120 V and 1200 VAh — different chassis, different depth, different mounting hardware, different UPS family. The 200–240 V models named in Schneider's 4U tower/rack operation manual are:

The same manual also names SMX3000HVT, and the 100–127 V models SMX2000LV, SMX2000LVNC, SMX3000LV and SMX3000LVNC. Those low-voltage builds are not sold for the Singapore 230 V market and SourceIT does not stock them.
SourceIT also stocks the SMX2200HVNC, the network-card build of the 4U 2200 VA chassis. It is not named in the manual revision we checked, so please confirm pack compatibility with us before ordering for that model rather than assuming it.
Runtime depends on the connected load and Schneider publishes no runtime table for this pack, so we will not quote a figure. The pack carries no outlets and no AC input of its own — it is a DC extension of the UPS battery bus, and all load connection, metering and network management stay with the UPS.

Which UPS models does the SMX120BP fit?
It is the 120 V pack for the 4U tower/rack Smart-UPS X models — in the SourceIT range, the SMX2200HV, SMX3000HV and SMX3000HVNC. It does not fit the 48 V 750–1500 VA models.
Is it the same as the SMX120RMBP2U?
No, and this catches people out. Both are 120 V and 1200 VAh, but the SMX120BP is a 4U chassis 483 mm deep for the 4U tower/rack UPS family, while the SMX120RMBP2U is a 2U chassis 667 mm deep for the 2U rack family. Different mounting hardware, different UPS models — not substitutes.
Why is it called “short depth”?
Because at 483 mm it is nearly 200 mm shallower than the 2U pack, which lets it fit comms cabinets that will not take a full-depth unit. It is a useful description rather than part of Schneider's official product name.
How many packs can I connect?
The UPS display recognises up to ten, and Schneider's installation guide notes there is no hard limit on how many can be fitted. Ten is the practical planning number.
