1500 VA / 1000 W of Pure Sine Wave Protection in a Single Rack U
The APC Smart-UPS SMT1500RMI1U is the unusual one in the range: a full 1500 VA / 1000 W line-interactive UPS with pure sine wave output and Automatic Voltage Regulation, in 1U of rack height. Where rack units are scarce — a shared cabinet in a Singapore colocation suite, a branch comms rack, a media or AV rack — that single U is the whole reason this model exists. Output distortion stays under 5% at full load, so active-PFC server and network supplies see a clean waveform.
AVR Corrects Singapore Mains Without Discharging the Battery
Singapore's 230 V, 50 Hz supply is stable by regional standards but not immune to sags when a PUB feeder switches or a storm passes. The SMT1500RMI1U works across a 174 to 286 V input window, correcting through Automatic Voltage Regulation rather than transferring to battery. Fewer battery cycles means the cartridge lasts longer — which matters in a warm, humid building where sealed lead-acid ages faster than the datasheet's 3 to 5 years suggests.
Four C13 Outlets, Two Jumpers and a 540 J Surge Rating
The outlet complement is four IEC C13 sockets plus two IEC jumper cords, all battery-backed, fed from an IEC C14 inlet on a 2.4 m cord. The C14 inlet is worth noting: unlike the 3000 VA models, this unit plugs into an ordinary C13-terminated outlet or PDU port, so it drops into an existing rack without electrical work. Surge energy rating is 540 Joules.
SmartSlot for Network Management — Card Sold Separately
This is the non-SmartConnect build: no Ethernet port of its own, no bundled network card, but one free SmartSlot. Fit an AP9640 or AP9641 Network Management Card 3 for web, SNMP and EcoStruxure IT monitoring. Out of the box you have USB and an RJ-45 serial port for host shutdown through APC PowerChute software.
1U High but 665 mm Deep — and Heavier Than It Looks
Two numbers to check. Depth: at 665 mm this is a full-depth chassis, so the U saving does not come free — a shallow comms cabinet will not take it. Weight: 24.09 kg in 1U, which is a lot of mass on a single pair of rails, so use the supplied rack mounting support rails and support the rear. It runs at 46 dBA and dissipates 116 BTU/hr.
