Know What the Rack Is Actually Drawing
The APC NetShelter Metered Rack PDU AP7822B measures the current on each of its two 16 A banks and shows the aggregate on a digital display, so you can see the real load instead of estimating it from nameplates. Amps are measured to within ±5%, which is enough to balance banks, spot creeping growth and avoid the overload that trips a breaker at the worst possible moment.
7.4 kW of Capacity Through Sixteen Outlets
A 32 A IEC 60309 cord feeds twelve IEC C13 outlets rated to 10 A each and four IEC C19 outlets rated to 16 A each, for 7.4 kW total at 230 V. Four C19 outlets is a generous allocation - enough for a pair of blade chassis and two storage shelves in the same rack.
Two Protected Banks
The outlets sit behind two single-pole 16 A circuit breakers, so a fault or overload on one bank leaves the other running. The display reports current per bank, which makes balancing the load across the two a matter of reading a number rather than guessing.
Network Management Built In, in a 2U Chassis
Remote monitoring over Web, Telnet, SNMP and SSH is standard, with reporting into EcoStruxure IT Data Center Expert - no card to buy. The 2U chassis is 88.3 mm high, 443.7 mm wide and only 112 mm deep, and weighs 2.76 kg, so it mounts easily in a Singapore server room or comms cabinet where power visibility has become an operational requirement rather than a nice-to-have.

Compatibility & Load Planning
What you can plug into it. Twelve IEC C13 outlets, 10 A each, for C14-corded servers, switches and appliances. Four IEC C19 outlets, 16 A each, for C20-corded blade chassis, storage shelves and large core switches. Four C19 outlets is the most of any 1U or 2U model in this range.
Load planning and banks. 32 A input, 7.4 kW at 230 V, split across two 16 A banks each protected by its own single-pole breaker. Balance the load between banks rather than filling one - the display reports current per bank, so you can do it by reading a number rather than guessing. Metering accuracy is ±5% on amps, which is fine for capacity planning and load balancing; it is not a billing-grade meter.
Rack fit. 2U high, 443.7 mm wide, 112 mm deep, 2.76 kg. Budget two rack units. If you have no rack units to spare and still want metering, the AP8853 delivers the same 32 A and 7.4 kW as a 0U vertical strip that consumes no rack units at all.
Feeding it. A captive 32 A IEC 60309 cord, 12 ft (3.66 m). The rack needs a 32 A commando socket on a dedicated circuit - a fixed electrical installation, not a wall plug. If that circuit does not exist yet, factor in an electrician, or step down to the 16 A C20-fed metered AP8858, which keeps both the metering and the C19 outlets.
Management. Web, Telnet, SNMP and SSH are built in, with EcoStruxure IT Data Center Expert reporting. No network management card purchase is needed. Note that Schneider does not document a temperature/humidity sensor port on this model, so we do not claim one - if environmental monitoring in the rack matters to you, the 0U AP8853 does have a sensor port and takes the AP9335TH.
What it does not do. No outlet switching - you cannot power-cycle a hung device remotely from this PDU. That is the Switched range: AP7920B and AP7921B. And no surge protection - Schneider's specification guide for this model contains no surge section at all.

Locking Output Cords (Sold Separately)
These are the cords that run from this unit's C13 outlets to your equipment's C14 inlets. The locking design stops a cord being nudged out of its outlet while you work in the rack - a common and entirely avoidable cause of an unplanned reboot. Note that this is an output cord kit, not this unit's supply cord - if you also need an input cord, tell us and we will quote the right type for this model.

Frequently Asked Questions — APC AP7822B
What does "Metered" give me that "Basic" does not?
A current meter, a local digital display and a built-in network port. You can see what the rack is drawing, per bank, from the front of the PDU or from your desk over Web or SNMP. A Basic PDU such as the AP7552 just distributes power. Metered does not include remote outlet switching - that is the Switched range.
Is it metered per outlet?
No. The AP7822B meters aggregate current per bank - two banks, two 16 A breakers - and displays it locally. Per-outlet measurement is a different product class (Metered-by-Outlet). For most capacity planning and load balancing, bank-level metering is what you actually need.
How accurate is the metering?
±5% on amps, per Schneider's published figure. That is good enough to balance banks, track growth and stay clear of the breaker limit. It is not a revenue-grade meter and should not be used for tenant billing.
Do I need to buy a network management card?
No. Web, Telnet, SNMP and SSH access are built into the AP7822B, along with EcoStruxure IT Data Center Expert reporting. The AP9640 and AP9641 cards in our catalogue are for Smart-UPS units, not for this PDU.
What input circuit does it need?
A 32 A IEC 60309 commando socket on a dedicated circuit. The 12 ft cord is captive. This is a fixed electrical installation - if your rack has only a 16 A C20 supply available, the metered AP8858 is the right step down, since it keeps the metering and the C19 outlets. Add a switched AP7921B as well if you also want remote outlet control.
Does it have surge protection?
No. Schneider's specification guide for the AP7822B contains no surge section, joule rating or clamping figure. Surge suppression is not something this PDU does - put a UPS upstream if you need it.
How does it compare with the AP8853?
Same capacity class - both 32 A, 7.4 kW, metered, with built-in network management. The AP7822B is a 2U horizontal unit with sixteen outlets (12 C13, 4 C19). The AP8853 is a 1,791 mm 0U vertical strip with forty-two outlets (36 C13, 6 C19), an interactive LCD and an environmental sensor port. Choose the AP8853 for a densely populated full-height rack; the AP7822B where a horizontal unit suits the cabinet better.
