16 A Source Redundancy for a Whole Rack PDU
The APC NetShelter Rack ATS AP4422A is the member of Schneider's fifth-generation Rack ATS family built to sit in front of a rack PDU rather than in front of individual servers. Instead of a row of C13 outlets it has a single IEC 60309 16 A outlet, and instead of C20 inlets it has two captive IEC 60309 16 A input cords. Feed those two cords from two independent sources, plug your existing zero-U or 1U PDU into the output, and every single-corded device on that PDU gains a second power path without touching a single equipment cord.
Transfers in 10 ms or Less
When the preferred source drifts outside tolerance the AP4422A transfers the load to the alternate feed in 10 ms. That is inside the hold-up time of a normal server or network power supply, so the equipment downstream rides through the transfer without rebooting.
Designed for 230 V Singapore Racks
Rated at 230 V AC nominal with a 207 to 253 V window and 50/60 Hz operation, the AP4422A runs directly on Singapore mains and delivers up to 3,840 VA at 16 A. IEC 60309 16 A (commando) sockets are the standard 16 A outlet in Singapore comms rooms, so both input cords plug straight into wall or busway sockets or a UPS outlet with no adapters.
Fifth-Generation Management: NMC3, Colour LCD, Sensor Port
The AP4422A carries Schneider's Network Management Card 3 as standard, and the NMC/display module is field-replaceable. Gigabit Ethernet, a secure Web UI, SSH, SNMP v1 and v3, Modbus TCP and EcoStruxure IT integration are all built in, and Schneider includes a one-year Secure NMC System subscription with the unit. The colour LCD shows both sources' voltage and frequency, load in amps, alarms and the preferred source; the Universal I/O port takes an AP9335T or AP9335TH sensor; and the Link A/B ports let up to 32 Rack ATS units share a single IP address. In a 1U chassis 236 mm deep, it fits comms cabinets and server racks alike.

Compatibility & Load Planning
What you plug into it. The AP4422A has one outlet, an IEC 60309 16 A socket, so it is not an outlet strip - it is the redundant feed for something else. In practice that something is a 16 A rack PDU: either one with a captive IEC 60309 16 A plug, or a C20-inlet PDU such as the AP7552 zero-U basic PDU or the AP7921B switched PDU fed through an AP9876 cord (IEC 60309 16 A plug to C19). The PDU then distributes to the C13 and C19 outlets in the cabinet, so a single ATS in front of a single PDU covers every single-corded device in that rack at once.
Load planning. Rated capacity is 3,840 VA at 16 A. Plan against that figure and the total nameplate current of everything on the downstream PDU, not against the PDU's outlet count. During a failover one source carries the whole load, so both feeds and both upstream breakers must be sized for the full 16 A, not half of it. The AP4422A has no internal circuit breaker; protection comes from the branch circuit feeding each source.
Rack fit. 1U high, 432 mm wide, 236 mm deep. The shallow depth suits wall-mount and comms cabinets as well as full-depth racks. The 1U rack-mount bracket kit and hardware are in the box; front and rear rail segments and a cord retention bracket are optional extras.
Feeding it. Both input cords are captive, 2.43 m long and terminated in IEC 60309 16 A 2P+E plugs. Each needs its own IEC 60309 16 A socket: a wall or busway commando socket, the IEC 60309 outlet on a UPS, or a bypass PDU outlet. The two sources must be genuinely independent for the redundancy to mean anything: separate UPS units, or separate breakers on separate risers. Both plugs into one PDU protects against nothing. An on-line UPS such as the Smart-UPS SRT 3000VA on one feed and mains on the other is the usual small-room arrangement.
Management. The AP4422A carries Schneider's Network Management Card 3 as standard - there is no SmartSlot to populate and no card to buy. You get a Gigabit Ethernet port, a secure Web UI over HTTP/HTTPS, a CLI over SSH, SNMP v1 and v3 with traps, Modbus TCP for a building management system, Syslog and e-mail alerts, and EcoStruxure IT integration. The NMC/display module can be swapped in the field, so a damaged card is a spare-part exchange rather than a whole-unit return.
Environmental monitoring. The Universal I/O port accepts the optional AP9335T temperature sensor or the AP9335TH temperature and humidity sensor, so a comms cabinet with no other monitoring can report rack temperature through the same IP address as its power switching. Thresholds and alarms are set in the same Web UI.
Many units, one IP. Link A and Link B let up to 32 AP44XXA-series Rack ATS units share one network connection; one unit is the host and the rest appear under it in the Web UI and SNMP.

Frequently Asked Questions — APC AP4422A
Why does the AP4422A have only one outlet?
Because it is designed to feed a rack PDU, not individual devices. The single IEC 60309 16 A outlet feeds one 16 A PDU - directly if the PDU has a commando plug, or through an AP9876 cord for a C20-inlet PDU such as the AP7552 or AP7921B - and that PDU then serves the whole cabinet. If you would rather plug servers straight into the ATS, the AP4423A has eight C13 and one C19 at the same 16 A rating, and the AP4421A has twelve C13 at 10 A.
What do the two input cords plug into?
Each is 2.43 m long and ends in an IEC 60309 16 A 2P+E plug, the blue commando plug. You need two IEC 60309 16 A sockets from two independent sources: for example the IEC 60309 outlet on a UPS for Source A and a wall socket on a separate breaker for Source B. Because the cords are captive, there are no input cords to order.
Does the AP4422A have surge protection?
No. Schneider states this plainly in the AP44XXA user guide (990-91718): the Rack ATS does not include power surge protection, and it recommends connecting each Rack ATS source to a double-conversion on-line UPS. If surge and dip protection is what you actually need, an on-line UPS such as the Smart-UPS SRT range in front of the ATS is the right answer, and it also gives the ATS a genuinely independent second source.
Is network management built in, or do I need to buy a card?
Built in. The AP4422A ships with Network Management Card 3 integrated - Gigabit Ethernet, Web UI over HTTP/HTTPS, SSH, SNMP v1 and v3, Modbus TCP and EcoStruxure IT support are all standard, and Schneider includes a one-year Secure NMC System subscription. You do not buy a card for it. If the module is ever damaged it can be replaced in the field rather than sending the whole switch away.
Can it monitor rack temperature and humidity?
Yes, with an optional sensor. Plug an AP9335T (temperature) or AP9335TH (temperature and humidity) into the Universal I/O port and the readings, thresholds and alarms appear in the same Web UI and SNMP tree as the power data. No NetBotz appliance is needed for a single-cabinet site.
How fast does it transfer, and will my servers notice?
Schneider prints a 10 ms transfer time for the AP4422A. That is inside the hold-up time of a normal server or network power supply, so equipment downstream of the PDU generally rides through without restarting. High sensitivity reacts sooner to a marginal source; low sensitivity tolerates more deviation before acting, which helps on a generator feed.
How does the AP4422A differ from the AP4422 it replaces?
The electrical side is unchanged: same 16 A, 230 V rating, same captive IEC 60309 input cords and the same IEC 60309 outlet, so the AP4422A drops into an existing AP4422 installation without rewiring. What Schneider changed is the management module. The AP4422A moves from Network Management Card 2 to Network Management Card 3, and that card and its display are now field-replaceable. It adds a Universal I/O port for a sensor, Link A/B ports for sharing one IP address across up to 32 units, Gigabit Ethernet in place of 10/100, a colour LCD, micro-USB console and USB-A ports, Modbus TCP, updated security and EcoStruxure IT integration. The standard warranty stays at 2 years.
How does it compare with the AP4421A, AP4423A and AP4424A?
