16 A Source Redundancy with a C19 Outlet
The APC NetShelter Rack ATS AP4423A gives single-corded equipment two independent power sources and switches between them automatically. Its 16 A, 3,700 VA rating and mixed outlet layout - eight IEC C13 plus one IEC C19 - suit a cabinet that mixes ordinary network gear with one heavier device such as a blade chassis, storage shelf or large switch that needs a 16 A C20 connection.
Transfers in 10 ms or Less
When the preferred source drifts outside tolerance the AP4423A transfers the load to the alternate feed in 10 ms maximum on the high sensitivity setting, or 12 ms maximum on low sensitivity. That is short enough for a normal server power supply to ride through without rebooting. Sensitivity, transfer ranges and source preference are set from the front panel or the Web UI.
Designed for 230 V Singapore Racks
Rated at 230 V AC nominal with a 207 to 253 V window and 50/60 Hz operation, the AP4423A runs directly on Singapore mains. Feeding one input from a UPS and the other from a separate breaker or riser turns a single-PSU appliance into something that survives the loss of either feed - the same protection a dual-PSU server gets for free.
Fifth-Generation Management: NMC3, Colour LCD, Sensor Port
The AP4423A carries Schneider's Network Management Card 3 as standard, and the NMC/display module is field-replaceable. Gigabit Ethernet, a secure Web UI, SSH, SNMP v1 and v3, Modbus TCP and EcoStruxure IT integration are all built in. The colour LCD shows both sources' voltage and frequency, load in amps, alarms and the preferred source; the Universal I/O port takes an AP9335T or AP9335TH sensor; and the Link A/B ports let up to 32 Rack ATS units share a single IP address. In a 1U chassis 236 mm deep, it fits comms cabinets and server racks alike.

Compatibility & Load Planning
What you can plug into it. Eight IEC C13 outlets take standard C14 equipment cords - switches, routers, firewalls, appliances, 1U and 2U servers. The single IEC C19 outlet is rated to 16 A and takes a C20 cord, which is what larger blade chassis, storage shelves and big core switches use. There is one C19 on this model, not two; if you need two, step up to the AP4424A.
Load planning. Rated capacity is 3,700 VA at 16 A. Plan against that figure and your equipment's nameplate current, not the outlet count. Remember that during a failover a single source carries the whole load, so both feeds and both upstream breakers must be sized for the full 16 A, not half of it. The unit has no internal circuit breaker, so protection comes from the branch circuit feeding each source.
Rack fit. 1U high, 431.8 mm wide, 236.2 mm deep. The shallow depth suits wall-mount and comms cabinets as well as full-depth racks. The 1U rack-mount bracket kit, screws, cage nuts and clip-on nuts are in the box; front and rear rail segments and a cord retention bracket are not.
Feeding it. Both inlets are IEC C20, so each source needs a C19-to-C20 cord rated for 16 A - do not feed a 16 A unit through a 10 A C13 cord and an adapter. The two sources must be genuinely independent for the redundancy to mean anything: separate UPS units, or separate breakers on separate risers. Both cords into one PDU protects against nothing.
Management. The AP4423A carries Schneider's Network Management Card 3 as standard - there is no SmartSlot to populate and no card to buy. You get a Gigabit Ethernet port, a secure Web UI over HTTP/HTTPS, a CLI over SSH, SNMP v1 and v3 with traps, Modbus TCP for a building management system, Syslog and e-mail alerts, and EcoStruxure IT integration. The NMC/display module can be swapped in the field, so a damaged card is a spare-part exchange rather than a whole-unit return. The micro-USB console cable is not in the box.
Environmental monitoring. The Universal I/O port accepts the optional AP9335T temperature sensor or the AP9335TH temperature and humidity sensor, so a comms cabinet with no other monitoring can report rack temperature through the same IP address as its power switching. Thresholds and alarms are set in the same Web UI.
Many units, one IP. With Link A and Link B on the front panel, up to 32 AP44XXA-series Rack ATS units can be chained so that one network connection serves them all. One unit is the host; the rest appear under it in the Web UI and in SNMP.

Locking Output Cords (Sold Separately)

The locking design stops a cord being nudged out of its outlet while you work in the rack - a common and entirely avoidable cause of an unplanned reboot. Frequently Asked Questions — APC AP4423A
Why only one C19 outlet, and what fits it?
The AP4423A's layout is eight C13 plus one C19 - Schneider's own product name says so. The C19 is rated to 16 A and accepts a C20 cord, which is what blade chassis, larger storage shelves and some core switches use. If your cabinet has two such devices, the AP4424A has two C19 outlets and a 32 A, 7,400 VA rating.
Does the AP4423A have surge protection?
No. Schneider states this plainly in the AP44XXA user guide (990-91718): the Rack ATS does not include power surge protection, and it recommends connecting each Rack ATS source to a double-conversion on-line UPS. Claims of surge suppression against this part are incorrect. If surge and dip protection is what you actually need, an on-line UPS such as the Smart-UPS SRT range in front of the ATS is the right answer, and it also gives the ATS a genuinely independent second source.
Is network management built in, or do I need to buy a card?
Built in. The AP4423A ships with Network Management Card 3 integrated - Gigabit Ethernet, Web UI over HTTP/HTTPS, SSH, SNMP v1 and v3, Modbus TCP and EcoStruxure IT support are all standard. You do not buy a card for it. If the module is ever damaged it can be replaced in the field rather than sending the whole switch away.
Can it monitor rack temperature and humidity?
Yes, with an optional sensor. Plug an AP9335T (temperature) or AP9335TH (temperature and humidity) into the Universal I/O port and the readings, thresholds and alarms appear in the same Web UI and SNMP tree as the power data. No NetBotz appliance is needed for a single-cabinet site.
What does "manage up to 32 ATS from one IP address" mean in practice?
Each AP44XXA-series unit has Link A and Link B ports. Chain up to 32 units through those ports, connect only the host unit to your network, and every unit in the group is visible and configurable through that one IP address. It saves a switch port and an address per cabinet and keeps the whole estate under one login.
How fast does it transfer, and will my servers notice?
A maximum of 10 ms on the high sensitivity setting, 12 ms on low sensitivity, with Schneider quoting a typical total transfer of 8 to 12 ms. That is inside the hold-up time of a normal server or network power supply, so equipment generally rides through without restarting. High sensitivity reacts sooner to a marginal source; low sensitivity tolerates more deviation before acting, which is useful when a generator feed would otherwise make the unit transfer more often than you want. The two sources may be up to 180 degrees out of phase.
How does the AP4423A differ from the AP4423 it replaces?
The electrical side is unchanged: same 16 A, 230 V rating, same inlet type and the same outlet configuration, so the AP4423A drops into an existing AP4423 installation without rewiring. What Schneider changed is the management module. The AP4423A moves from Network Management Card 2 to Network Management Card 3, and that card and its display are now field-replaceable. It adds a Universal I/O port for an AP9335T or AP9335TH sensor, Link A and Link B ports for Network Port Sharing of up to 32 units on one IP address, Gigabit Ethernet in place of 10/100, a colour LCD, a micro-USB console port instead of the old RJ12 serial lead, a USB-A port for firmware upgrade and the AP9834 Wi-Fi device, Modbus TCP, updated security (secured interfaces and a stricter password policy) and EcoStruxure IT integration. The standard warranty stays at 2 years.
How does it compare with the AP4421A and AP4424A?
