The APC NetShelter Power Cord AP9870 is a 2.5 m IEC 60320 C13 to C14 lead: a C14 plug on one end for a PDU, UPS or Rack ATS outlet, and a C13 connector on the other for the inlet on a server, switch, storage shelf or appliance. It is the cord that most rack equipment ships without, or ships with in a length that will not reach the PDU.
Rated 10 A, 250 V
Schneider prints the AP9870 at 10 A and 250 V AC, the full IEC 60320 C13/C14 coupler rating. That covers any device with a C14 inlet, since the inlet itself is limited to 10 A. On a 230 V Singapore feed that is up to 2,300 VA per cord - far more than a single 1U server or switch draws, but worth remembering if you are chaining a cord to a small outlet strip.
2.5 m: Bottom of Rack to Top of Rack, Tidily
A 42U rack is roughly 1.9 m of usable height. A 1U PDU or UPS at the bottom feeding a switch at the top needs more than the 1.8 m cords that come in most equipment boxes once you route the cable down the side rail and along the cable tray. 2.5 m does that with slack for a service loop, without being so long that the excess needs coiling.

Compatibility & Fit
Where it goes. C14 plug into any IEC C13 outlet - on a rack PDU, a UPS, a Rack ATS or a service bypass PDU - and C13 connector into the C14 inlet on the equipment. That is the standard connection for servers, switches, firewalls, storage controllers, KVMs and most rack appliances.
APC outlets it plugs into, from the SourceIT catalogue. Current and length planning. 10 A per cord. One cord per device is the norm; do not use it to feed an outlet strip that could draw more than 10 A. At 2.5 m it reaches from a bottom-of-rack PDU or UPS to the top of a 42U cabinet with slack for routing; for short in-rack runs from a zero-U PDU beside the equipment, the 0.6 m AP9890 five-pack is tidier.
Not a wall lead. There is no mains plug on this cord. It is an IEC-to-IEC equipment cord and will not connect to a BS 1363 socket.
Locking option. If a cord being knocked out of the PDU during maintenance is a risk you want to remove, the AP8704S-WW locking C13 to C14 cord kit, 6 x 1.2 m uses the same C13/C14 connection with a locking C13 end.
IEC Connector Guide
Rack power cords are named by the IEC 60320 coupler on each end. The socket side of a coupler is the odd number and the pin side is the even number, so a C14 plug goes into a C13 outlet and a C19 connector goes onto a C20 inlet.

Not one of these is a BS 1363 (Type G) wall plug. In a Singapore rack the mains connection is normally made once, at the UPS or PDU input, and everything downstream is IEC to IEC.

Frequently Asked Questions — APC AP9870
What equipment does the AP9870 connect?
Anything with an IEC C14 inlet - which is almost every rack-mount server, switch, router, firewall and storage unit - to a C13 outlet on a PDU, UPS, Rack ATS or bypass switch. It is the same connection as the cord that came in the equipment box, at a length that actually reaches the PDU.
How much current can it carry?
Schneider rates it at 10 A and 250 V AC, the IEC 60320 C13/C14 coupler limit. A C14 inlet on a device cannot draw more than that, so one cord per device is always within rating. Do not use it to feed a multi-way strip that could exceed 10 A in total.
Why 2.5 m rather than the usual 1.8 m?
Because equipment-box cords are sized for a desk, not a rack. From a 1U PDU or UPS in the bottom of a 42U cabinet, 2.5 m reaches a device at the top with enough slack to route neatly down the rail and through the cable management fingers. For equipment right beside a zero-U PDU, the 0.6 m AP9890 cords are the neater choice.
Is it the same as the AP9890 kit?
Same connectors, different length and quantity. The AP9870 is one 2.5 m cord; the AP9890 is a pack of five 0.6 m cords for short in-rack runs. Buy the 2.5 m for reach and the 0.6 m pack for tidiness.
Does it lock into the PDU?
No, it is a standard non-locking C13. For a locking version of the same connection see the AP8704S-WW locking C13 to C14 cord kit, 6 x 1.2 m, which is stocked by SourceIT.
Can I use it on a Rack ATS?
Yes, on the output side. The AP4421A Rack ATS (C14 in, 12 C13 out) and AP4423A Rack ATS (C20 in, 8 C13 and 1 C19 out) have C13 outlets, and this cord takes power from those outlets to the equipment. It is not an ATS input cord - the ATS inputs are C14 or C20 inlets or captive commando plugs depending on the model.
Will this plug into a Singapore wall socket?
No. The AP9870 has an IEC C14 plug and an IEC C13 connector. Singapore wall sockets are BS 1363 (Type G), and none of the connectors on this cord are BS 1363. The normal Singapore arrangement is an IEC-fed rack PDU or a UPS with IEC outlets, with cords like this one running from those outlets to the equipment. If you need a BS 1363 to IEC lead for a UPS or PDU input, ask us separately.
