The APC NetBotz Rack Monitor 250 (NBRK0250A) is a 1U appliance that watches a rack the way a network management card watches a UPS. Schneider positions it as essential sensing, access control and alerting for rack-mount applications: environmental alerts for overheating, fluids and leaks, humidity and smoke, with badged access control for two rack doors.
It carries six universal sensor ports on the unit itself and supports up to 42 wired sensors and 47 wireless sensors once sensor pods and the wireless coordinator are added - so one appliance can cover a row of cabinets rather than a single rack.
The Failure Modes That Actually Take Out a Singapore Comms Room
Cooling failure over a long weekend. A chilled-water or condensate leak under a raised floor. Humidity climbing in a cabinet that lost its air conditioning on Friday evening. An unlogged visit to an open rack. None of these announce themselves on a server console, and none of them are visible to a UPS.
The Rack Monitor 250 covers all of them from one IP address: temperature, humidity, spot fluid leak, smoke, door contact, dry contact and 0 to 5 V sensor types are all supported, with configurable thresholds driving e-mail alerts and SNMP traps.
Badged Access Control for Two Rack Doors
Rack door access control matters for anyone answering an audit question about physical access to systems holding regulated data. The NBRK0250A supports badged access control for two rack doors, so entry to the cabinet is authorised and logged rather than assumed - useful where physical access to a cabinet has to be authorised and logged, and for shared or colocated cabinets where several parties hold keys.
Door switch sensors (NBES0302 and NBES0303) cover the simpler case where you only need to know that a door was opened.
Integrates With EcoStruxure, SNMP, Modbus and Your Existing NMS
Access is over a single 10/100 Base-T Ethernet port with HTTP, HTTPS, SNMPv1 and SNMPv3, SMTP, FTP, SSH, Telnet, NTP, RADIUS, IPv4 and IPv6, and Modbus over both TCP and serial. Schneider's EcoStruxure Data Center Expert and EcoStruxure IT platforms are supported for estate-wide monitoring.
The unit also provides a beacon port for an AP9324 alarm beacon, a switched outlet rated 10 A total, and a 12 VDC / 24 VDC auxiliary output at 75 mA. Note that it is not a PoE-powered device - Schneider's user guide states this explicitly - so plan a 100 to 240 VAC feed at the rack. Running that feed from a UPS-backed outlet keeps monitoring alive through the outage you most want it for.

How far it scales. Six ports directly on the unit, rising to up to 42 wired sensors as sensor pods are cascaded over A-Link, plus up to 47 wireless sensors when the NBWC100U Wireless Network Coordinator occupies the USB port. That is a row-level capability, not a single-rack one.
Power and mounting. 1U of rack space, 44 x 432 x 59 mm, 1.27 kg, and a 100 to 240 VAC input. It is not a PoE device, so it needs a local outlet - put it on a UPS-backed circuit so monitoring survives the mains event it is there to report. Rack mounting brackets are supplied.
Network and integration. One 10/100 Base-T Ethernet port. Monitoring integrates over SNMPv1 and SNMPv3, HTTPS and e-mail, into EcoStruxure Data Center Expert or EcoStruxure IT, or into an industrial or building system over Modbus TCP or Modbus serial.
When a management card is enough instead. If all you need is temperature and humidity in one rack and you have a free SmartSlot in the UPS, an AP9641 with an AP9335TH is the cheaper answer. Step up to the NBRK0250A when you need more than two sensors, leak or smoke detection, door access control, or monitoring that is independent of any one UPS.

How many sensors can the NBRK0250A handle?
Six universal sensor ports are on the appliance itself. Schneider states support for up to 42 wired sensors as sensor pods are cascaded over the A-Link ports, plus up to 47 wireless sensors when the NBWC100U Wireless Network Coordinator is fitted to the USB port. Six is the number you get out of the box; 42 is the ceiling with expansion.
Can it be powered over Ethernet?
No. Schneider's user guide states explicitly that the Rack Monitor 250 is not a PoE-compatible device. It takes a 100 to 240 VAC supply. Feed it from a UPS-backed outlet so the monitoring stays up during the mains event you want it to report on.
What is the difference between this and an AP9641 with a sensor?
Scale and independence. The AP9641 is a card in a UPS SmartSlot with two sensor ports - fine for temperature and humidity in one rack, and cheaper. The NBRK0250A is a standalone 1U appliance with six ports, expansion to 42 wired sensors, leak, smoke and vibration sensor support, badged access control for two rack doors, a beacon port and a switched outlet. Choose the appliance when the requirement is the rack or the row, not the UPS.
Does it do rack door access control?
Yes - badged access control for two rack doors is one of its headline functions, alongside door switch sensors (NBES0302 and NBES0303) for the simpler open-or-closed case. That is the feature that usually justifies it in an audited environment where physical access to a cabinet has to be authorised and logged.
