Throw Ratio of 0.28 to 0.37 With No Presenter Shadow
The EB-685W mounts directly above the screen and fills 60 to 100 inches from 35.4 to 60.1 cm of clearance, a throw ratio of 0.28 to 0.37. A teacher or presenter standing at the board casts no shadow across the image and is never dazzled by the lens while facing the room. In the shallow classrooms and narrow training rooms common in Singapore school blocks and office fit-outs, that geometry also frees the floor: there is no ceiling mount hanging in a walkway and no long cable run down the length of the room.
3,500 Lumens With Colour Brightness to Match
Epson rates the EB-685W at 3,500 lumens white light output and 3,500 lumens colour light output, with a 14,000:1 contrast ratio and up to 1.07 billion colours processed at 10 bit. Because the 3LCD engine delivers colour brightness equal to white brightness, a colour-coded diagram or a chart with several series stays readable under the fluorescent lighting that classrooms and training rooms are required to keep on. There is no need to darken the room for the material on screen to hold its detail from the back row.
WXGA 16:10 With 10,000-Hour Eco Lamp Life
The native WXGA 1280 x 800 panel gives a 16:10 widescreen shape suited to modern lesson material, widescreen decks and video. The 250 W UHE lamp is rated at 5,000 hours in Normal mode and 10,000 hours in Eco, with an air filter maintenance cycle of up to 10,000 hours. For an institution running a classroom eight hours a day through term time, that Eco figure keeps the replacement cycle to a manageable interval and makes the running cost across a fleet of rooms predictable enough to budget.
Three HDMI Inputs and Full Room Integration

Compatibility & Installation
Mounting and positioning
The EB-685W is designed for a wall mount directly above the screen using the optional ELPMB62 wall mount, with the optional ELPMB29 table mount as an alternative. Allow for a 400 x 149 x 367 mm body and 5.7 kg when specifying the fixing and any backing behind plasterboard. Because the throw ratio is 0.28 to 0.37, image size is set by the mount's distance from the wall, so fix the screen or board position before drilling. Keystone correction is only ±3 degrees, so the mount must be square.
What it connects to
Three HDMI inputs, one MHL-capable, cover a room PC, a laptop plate and a document camera or media player at the same time. Two D-Sub 15-pin inputs and a composite RCA input handle older equipment, and a D-Sub output feeds a confidence monitor. Three stereo mini audio inputs, a microphone input and an audio output allow a teacher's radio mic to be mixed into the 16 W internal speaker or passed on to a room amplifier.
Network, control and management
A wired RJ45 port at 100 Mbps carries Epson's network projection, control and management tools along with multi-PC projection and message broadcasting. The projector is a Crestron Integrated Partner and supports Crestron RoomView, AMX Device Discovery, Extron IP Link and Control4, so it can be adopted into an existing managed AV estate. RS-232C is available for serial control where a network route is not wanted.
