PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

APC Smart-UPS, Line Interactive, 750VA, Tower, 230V (SMT750I) - 3 Years Local Warranty

Product status: the SMT750I has reached end of commercialisation at Schneider Electric (4 August 2026) and is superseded by the SmartConnect model APC SMT750IC. This page is maintained as the reference datasheet for the SMT750I. Contact SourceIT for remaining stock, or for the current replacement.

APC SMT750I — 750 VA / 500 W Line-Interactive UPS for Singapore 230V Power

The APC Smart-UPS SMT750I is a line-interactive uninterruptible power supply rated at 750 VA / 500 W for 230 V single-phase supply — the standard Singapore mains configuration. Line-interactive topology means the UPS sits between your equipment and the PUB grid, filtering and correcting the incoming supply continuously and switching to battery only when the mains falls outside its window. For the brownouts and brief dips that arrive with a Singapore thunderstorm, that is exactly the right behaviour: the load never notices, and the battery is not cycled unnecessarily.

Automatic Voltage Regulation Protects Battery Life

Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) is the feature that separates a Smart-UPS from a basic backup unit. When mains voltage sags or surges, AVR corrects it using the transformer rather than dropping to battery. On a supply that dips repeatedly — a comms cabinet on a shared riser, an SME office at the end of a long feed, a site near heavy plant — a UPS without AVR will discharge and recharge dozens of times a week, and the battery ages accordingly. The SMT750I rides those events through on mains, so the battery is held in reserve for real outages.

Sine Wave Output for Servers, Switches and Active-PFC Power Supplies

Schneider Electric specifies sine wave output for the SMT750I. This is the specification to check before you buy: current server and workstation power supplies use active power factor correction, and active-PFC supplies can alarm, cut out or refuse to transfer on the step-approximated waveform used in entry-level UPS models. On a sine wave they behave normally. Output connections are 6 × IEC 60320 C13, plus 2 × IEC jumpers, and output voltage is configurable for 220 V, 230 V or 240 V nominal.

Tower Protection for the SME Office, Home Office and Under-Desk Server

As a tower unit at 157.5 × 138 × 358.1 mm and 13.18 kg, the SMT750I suits a standalone server, a small NAS and switch stack, a reception or point-of-sale position, or a home office where a rack is not an option. The multifunction LCD reports load, remaining capacity and fault conditions directly on the front panel. Site it with ventilation clearance and away from direct sun — sustained heat, not cycle count, is what usually ends a VRLA battery's life in a Singapore installation.

Management, Hot-Swap Batteries and Local Singapore Supply

Serial and USB ports drive PowerChute Serial Shutdown for unattended, graceful shutdown of an attached server. One empty SmartSlot accepts an optional APC Network Management Card 3 (AP9640 or AP9641) when you need SNMP, a web interface or EcoStruxure IT — network management is an option on this model, not a built-in feature. The battery cartridge is user-replaceable and hot-swappable, so the load stays protected during a battery change. SourceIT supplies the SMT750I in Singapore with a GST invoice and local warranty support.

What you can plug in

The SMT750I delivers 750 VA / 500 W at 230 V. Size the UPS on the watt figure, not the VA figure: add up the real power draw of everything you intend to protect and keep it comfortably below 500 W. Output is via 6 × IEC 60320 C13, plus 2 × IEC jumpers. Most rack servers, switches, firewalls and NAS units ship with a C13 cordset, so they connect directly.

Sine wave output and active-PFC power supplies

Schneider Electric specifies sine wave output for the SMT750I. That matters in a server room: modern active power-factor-corrected server and workstation PSUs can shut down or alarm on the step-approximated waveform used by entry-level UPS models, but they run normally on a sine wave. If you are protecting active-PFC hardware, this is the part of the specification to check.

Transfer time on the SMT750I is 4 ms typical, 8 ms maximum, comfortably inside the ride-through window of a typical server power supply.

Runtime

Runtime is entirely a function of load — a UPS at 30% load runs far longer than the same UPS at 90%. Schneider Electric does not publish a runtime table for the SMT750I, so SourceIT does not quote one here. Tell us your actual load in watts and we will size the runtime for you before you order.

Replacement battery

The SMT750I takes the APC RBC48 replacement battery cartridge — one per UPS. The cartridge is user-replaceable and hot-swappable, so the load stays protected while you change it. RBC part numbers are not interchangeable between Smart-UPS models, or between a standard model and its SmartConnect equivalent, so order by the part number above. In Singapore's humidity and year-round air-conditioned server rooms, plan on replacing the cartridge within the 3–5 year service window rather than waiting for a failed self-test.

Siting the unit

This is a tower unit and is not rack-mountable. Dimensions are 157.5 × 138 × 358.1 mm and net weight is 13.18 kg. Allow clearance for ventilation and keep it off carpet and out of direct sun; sustained heat is the single biggest shortener of VRLA battery life in Singapore installations.

Management and monitoring options

The SMT750I has serial and USB ports and one empty SmartSlot. Networked monitoring is not built in — you add it by fitting an APC Network Management Card 3 (AP9640), or AP9641 if you also want environmental sensor inputs. An AP9613 Dry Contact I/O card suits building-management integration. For directly attached servers, PowerChute Serial Shutdown handles graceful shutdown over USB or serial.

Frequently Asked Questions — APC SMT750I

What do VA and W mean, and how do I size the SMT750I for my load?

VA is apparent power and W is real power; the SMT750I is rated at 750 VA / 500 W and the watt figure is the one that limits what you can connect. Add up the real draw of every device you want to protect — a small rack server is typically 150–350 W, a switch 20–60 W, a firewall 20–40 W — and keep the total comfortably below 500 W so you have both headroom and useful runtime. If the sum is close to the limit, size up rather than run the UPS at 90%.

How long will the SMT750I run on battery?

That depends entirely on the connected load, and Schneider Electric does not publish a runtime table for this model, so SourceIT does not quote one. As a rule, a line-interactive UPS of this class is designed to ride out the brief dips and short outages that are typical of the PUB grid and to give you time for a clean shutdown — not to run a rack for hours. Send us your load in watts and we will size it properly.

What is the difference between the SMT750I and the "IC" SmartConnect version (SMT750IC)?

The SmartConnect models add a dedicated Ethernet port that reports the UPS to APC's free SmartConnect cloud portal, giving remote status and alerting without a management card. They are genuinely different builds — not just a badge — and some specifications, including transfer time and the replacement battery cartridge part number, differ between a standard model and its SmartConnect equivalent. The SMT750I is the standard build. The "NC" suffix on other Smart-UPS models means a Network Management Card is factory-fitted; that is different again.

Is the output a true sine wave, and will it work with an active-PFC server power supply?

Yes — Schneider Electric specifies sine wave output for the SMT750I. Active power-factor-corrected PSUs, which most current servers and many workstations use, can trip or alarm on the step-approximated waveform found in entry-level Back-UPS and Easy UPS models, but they run normally on a sine wave. This is one of the main reasons to choose a Smart-UPS over a home-office model for server-room equipment.

Which replacement battery does the SMT750I take, and can I change it myself?

It takes the APC RBC48 replacement battery cartridge, one per unit. It is user-replaceable and hot-swappable, so the connected load stays protected during the swap. Expected service life is 3–5 years; Singapore's ambient heat and humidity tend to push VRLA batteries toward the shorter end of any published range, so budget for replacement rather than waiting for a failed self-test. RBC part numbers are not interchangeable across Smart-UPS models — order by part number.

Can the SMT750I be rack-mounted?

No. This is a tower-form unit and Schneider Electric lists it as not rack-mountable. For a 19-inch cabinet, use the rackmount models in the same range instead: SMT750RMI2U, SMT1000RMI2U, SMT1500RMI2U, SMT2200RMI2U and SMT3000RMI2U. They are 2U chassis with the same line-interactive topology and sine wave output, but the outlet counts and replacement battery cartridges differ from the tower models, so check the specification for the exact part number you order.

Can I monitor the SMT750I over the network?

Not out of the box. The unit has serial and USB ports and one empty SmartSlot; network management is an add-in card, not a built-in feature. Fit an AP9640 Network Management Card 3 for SNMP and a web interface, or an AP9641 if you also want temperature and humidity sensor inputs. Without a card, use PowerChute Serial Shutdown on the attached server.

Is the SMT750I covered by warranty in Singapore?

Yes. Every APC SMT750I sold by SourceIT comes with local Singapore warranty and a GST invoice; APC backs the SMT750I with a 3-year UPS / 2-year battery manufacturer warranty. Schneider Electric's Singapore support FAQ and the product datasheet both state three years on the UPS hardware and two years on the battery for the Smart-UPS SMT range, with no separate European and rest-of-world figure, so that is the term that applies here.
