Remote Outlet Control for Equipment That Locks Up
The APC NetShelter Switched Rack PDU AP7921B lets you switch each of its eight IEC C13 outlets on and off individually over the network. Power-cycling a frozen firewall or switch becomes a browser action rather than a site visit - the difference between minutes and hours of downtime when the equipment sits in a co-location cage or an unstaffed branch office.
16 A and 3.7 kW on Singapore Mains
Fed through an IEC C20 inlet on a 2.4 m cord, the AP7921B carries 16 A total for 3.7 kW at 230 V, with 10 A available per outlet under IEC rules. That is roughly 60% more capacity than its C14-fed sibling, which makes it the switched PDU to choose when servers rather than just network gear are involved.
Network Management Is Built In - Not Optional
Web, Telnet, SNMP and SSH access come as standard, reporting into EcoStruxure IT Expert, and a one-year Secure Network Management Card subscription is included. Network connectivity is sometimes described as an option on this part; it is not - there is no card to buy and nothing to fit.
Local Metering in a Compact 1U Chassis
A digital display shows aggregate current at the unit, measured to ±5%, so you can see the load at the rack as well as from your desk. The chassis is 44.5 mm high, 444.5 mm wide and 108 mm deep at 2.26 kg - shallow enough for a comms cabinet, light enough to retrofit into a rack that is already cabled.

Compatibility & Load Planning
What you can plug into it. Eight IEC C13 outlets taking standard C14 equipment cords, with 10 A available per outlet under IEC rules. That covers switches, routers, firewalls, appliances and 1U or 2U servers. There are no C19 outlets on this model - a device with a 16 A C20 inlet cannot be connected, and should not be adapted down onto a C13.
Load planning. 16 A total, 3.7 kW at 230 V. Eight outlets share that budget, so about 2 A each on average - comfortable for network equipment and workable for a few modest servers. The local display and the network interface both report aggregate current to ±5%, so you can watch the headroom rather than estimate it.
Rack fit. 1U high, 444.5 mm wide, 108 mm deep, 2.26 kg. Fits any 19-inch rack including shallow comms cabinets. Rack mounting brackets, a user manual and an installation guide are supplied.
Feeding it. An IEC C20 inlet with a 2.4 m cord supplied. That is a step up from the AP7920B, which plugs into an ordinary C13 socket - the AP7921B wants a 16 A supply, ideally from a UPS or a 16 A outlet on a row PDU.
Management. Built in, not optional: Web, Telnet, SNMP and SSH, reporting into EcoStruxure IT Expert, with a one-year Secure NMC subscription included. The AP9640 and AP9641 cards we sell are Smart-UPS accessories and have nothing to do with this PDU. Schneider does not document an environmental sensor port on this model, so we do not claim one.
What it does not do. No surge protection - the specification guide contains no surge section, so do not plan on it. And no battery: a switched PDU controls power, it does not store it, so a UPS is still required for ride-through.

Locking Output Cords (Sold Separately)
These are the cords that run from this unit's C13 outlets to your equipment's C14 inlets. The locking design stops a cord being nudged out of its outlet while you work in the rack - a common and entirely avoidable cause of an unplanned reboot. Note that this is an output cord kit, not this unit's supply cord - if you also need an input cord, tell us and we will quote the right type for this model.

Frequently Asked Questions — APC AP7921B
Is network management optional on the AP7921B?
No - it is built in. Web, Telnet, SNMP and SSH access are standard, the unit reports into EcoStruxure IT Expert, and a one-year Secure Network Management Card subscription is included. Network connectivity is sometimes described as optional against this part number in third-party data; it is not.
What can I do remotely with a Switched PDU?
Turn any individual outlet on or off, power-cycle a hung device, and define the sequence and delays in which outlets come up after a power failure. That is the practical difference from a Metered PDU, which shows you the load but cannot act on it.
How much load will it take?
16 A total, 3.7 kW at 230 V, with 10 A available per outlet under IEC rules. Eight outlets share the 16 A, so plan against total nameplate current rather than outlet count.
Does it have surge protection?
No. Schneider's specification guide for the AP7921B contains no surge section, joule rating or clamping figure. Put a UPS upstream if you need surge and sag protection - that is not a PDU function.
How does it compare with the AP7920B?
Same 1U chassis, same eight C13 outlets, and the same built-in remote switching and network management. The AP7920B is 10 A / 2.3 kW with a C14 inlet that plugs into any ordinary C13 socket; the AP7921B is 16 A / 3.7 kW with a C20 inlet needing a 16 A cord. If your load is only switches and appliances, the AP7920B is enough; if servers are involved, take the AP7921B.
Can I meter individual outlets?
No. The AP7921B switches per outlet but meters aggregate current only, shown on the local display and over the network. Per-outlet measurement is a separate product class (Switched Metered-by-Outlet) - ask us if that is what your application needs.
Is it a current product?
Yes - Schneider records the AP7921B as Commercialised, with no end-of-life date. It is one of the few models in this rack power range with no discontinuation notice against it.
