Powers a C20-Inlet Device From an Ordinary C13 Outlet
The APC NetShelter Power Cord AP9878 is a 2.0 m lead with an IEC 60320 C14 plug on one end and an IEC 60320 C19 connector on the other. The C14 goes into a standard C13 outlet on a PDU, UPS or Rack ATS; the C19 goes into the C20 inlet on the equipment. It solves a specific and common problem: a device that was built with a 16 A C20 inlet but actually draws well under 10 A, sitting in a rack whose PDU or UPS only offers C13 outlets.
Rated 10 A - the C14 End Sets the Limit
Schneider prints the AP9878 at 10 A maximum line current and 230 V AC. The C19 connector could carry more, but the C14 plug and the C13 outlet behind it are 10 A parts, so the whole cord is a 10 A cord. Use it for a device whose real draw is comfortably inside that figure - a small C20-inlet PDU carrying a light load, a switch or storage unit with a C20 inlet and a modest power supply - and not for a fully loaded 16 A PDU.
2.0 m for In-Rack Runs
Two metres reaches from a UPS or 1U PDU at the bottom of the rack to a C20-inlet device most of the way up, or from a zero-U PDU on the rear rail to anything in the cabinet, with slack to route through the cable management fingers.

Compatibility & Fit
Where it goes. C14 plug into any C13 outlet - PDU, UPS, Rack ATS or bypass PDU - and C19 connector into a C20 inlet on the equipment. Both ends are IEC 60320; it does not connect to a wall socket.
C13 outlets that feed it, from the SourceIT catalogue. What it can safely feed. Any C20-inlet device whose real draw is inside 10 A at 230 V - about 2,300 VA. A C20-inlet PDU carrying a handful of switches and a couple of 1U servers, a storage shelf with a C20 inlet, a large switch with a C20 inlet and a 700 W supply. Check the nameplate or the measured load, not the inlet type: the inlet says what the device could draw, not what it does.
What it should not feed. A 16 A PDU that is actually loaded towards 16 A, or a blade chassis or high-density device that needs the full C20 rating. For those, feed from a C19 outlet with the AP9877 jumper or from a commando socket with the AP9876. The upstream C13 outlet and its breaker are the limit, and exceeding them trips the outlet bank, not just the cord.
Rack ATS use. On a Rack ATS with C13 outlets, such as the AP4421A Rack ATS (C14 in, 12 C13 out) or AP4423A Rack ATS (C20 in, 8 C13 and 1 C19 out), the AP9878 lets a single C20-inlet device draw redundant power from the ATS without needing a C19 outlet - provided its load fits the 10 A figure.
IEC Connector Guide
Rack power cords are named by the IEC 60320 coupler on each end. The socket side of a coupler is the odd number and the pin side is the even number, so a C14 plug goes into a C13 outlet and a C19 connector goes onto a C20 inlet.

Not one of these is a BS 1363 (Type G) wall plug. In a Singapore rack the mains connection is normally made once, at the UPS or PDU input, and everything downstream is IEC to IEC.

Frequently Asked Questions — APC AP9878
Why would I connect a C19 device to a C13 outlet?
Because plenty of equipment is fitted with a C20 inlet for a worst-case configuration it will never reach. A storage shelf, a chassis switch or a small C20-inlet PDU carrying a light load may draw 3 or 4 A in practice. The AP9878 lets it run from the C13 outlets you already have on a UPS, PDU or Rack ATS, instead of forcing a C19 outlet or a new circuit.
How much current can it carry?
10 A, as Schneider prints. The C14 plug and the C13 outlet it goes into are 10 A parts, and the cord is rated to match. At 230 V that is around 2,300 VA. If the device's nameplate or measured load is above that, use a C19 outlet with the AP9877 or a commando socket with the AP9876 instead.
Is it safe to run a 16 A PDU through it?
Only if the PDU's actual load is under 10 A and the outlet feeding it is protected accordingly. The cord does not make a 10 A outlet a 16 A outlet. Where a PDU may grow towards its rating, feed it properly from the start.
What is the difference between the AP9878 and the AP9877?
The plug end. The AP9877 has a C20 plug for a C19 outlet and carries the full 16 A coupler rating. The AP9878 has a C14 plug for a C13 outlet and is limited to 10 A. Both have a C19 connector on the equipment end; the choice depends on which outlet you have available and how much the device draws.
Which APC UPS models can feed it?
Any with C13 outlets - the Smart-UPS SMT, SMC, SRT and Easy UPS On-Line SRV ranges in the SourceIT catalogue all qualify, for example the Smart-UPS SRT 3000VA (8 C13, 2 C19 outlets) or the Easy UPS On-Line SRV 2000VA rackmount. The same applies to the C13 outlets on the AP4421A Rack ATS (C14 in, 12 C13 out) and AP4423A Rack ATS (C20 in, 8 C13 and 1 C19 out) Rack ATS units.
Is 2.0 m long enough?
For a run within one rack, yes. From a UPS at the bottom to a device two-thirds of the way up a 42U cabinet, routed through the cable management, 2.0 m leaves a modest service loop. For between-rack runs, measure the route first.
Will this plug into a Singapore wall socket?
No. The AP9878 has an IEC C14 plug and an IEC C19 connector. Singapore wall sockets are BS 1363 (Type G), and none of the connectors on this cord are BS 1363. The normal Singapore arrangement is an IEC-fed rack PDU or a UPS with IEC outlets, with cords like this one running from those outlets to the equipment. If you need a BS 1363 to IEC lead for a UPS or PDU input, ask us separately.
