The APC NetShelter Metered Rack PDU AP8853 is the largest unit in this rack power range: thirty-six IEC C13 outlets and six IEC C19 outlets on a 1,791 mm vertical strip, carrying 7,400 VA at 230 V and 32 A. Mounted in the rear vertical channel, all of that capacity costs you no usable rack units at all.
Device, Phase and Breaker-Bank Metering with an Interactive LCD
The AP8853 measures current, power and voltage and presents them on an interactive LCD at the strip itself, as well as over the network. Metering is at device, phase and breaker-bank level - accurate to ±3% - which is what you need to balance the two banks properly and to see capacity headroom before you commit the next server to the rack. The display module is field-replaceable.
Environmental Monitoring in the Rack
A sensor port takes the APC AP9335T temperature probe or the AP9335TH temperature and humidity sensor, so the PDU can report rack inlet conditions alongside power. In Singapore's climate, where a failed CRAC unit turns into a thermal problem within minutes and ambient humidity works steadily against equipment life, that is a genuinely useful thing to have reporting from inside the cabinet.
Toolless Mounting and Built-In Network Management
Two mounting pegs let the strip go in without tools, and network management is standard - Web, Telnet, SNMP and SSH, with EcoStruxure IT reporting and a one-year Secure NMC subscription included. Serial, USB and CAN ports round out the connectivity. The outlets also support APC locking input cords, so a cable cannot be nudged out of a socket during a rack tidy.

Compatibility & Load Planning
What you can plug into it. Thirty-six IEC C13 outlets at 10 A each for C14-corded servers, switches and appliances, plus six IEC C19 outlets at 16 A each for C20-corded blade chassis, storage shelves and core switches. Forty-two outlets is enough to cable an entire full-height rack from one strip, and the outlets accept APC locking input cords so connections cannot be nudged loose.
Load planning and banks. 32 A input, 7,400 VA total, split across two 16 A banks each behind its own hydraulic-magnetic breaker. Metering is per device, per phase and per breaker bank, to ±3%, so balancing the two banks is a matter of reading the LCD rather than guessing. Forty-two outlets on 7.4 kW works out to modest per-outlet draw - the sockets are there for reach and tidiness, not so every one can pull its maximum.
Rack fit. A 0U vertical strip 1,791 mm long, 56 mm wide and 44 mm deep, weighing 6.93 kg. It mounts without tools on two pegs in the rear vertical channel and consumes no rack units. Confirm your enclosure is tall enough and has the channel to take a 1.79 m strip - this is the longest unit in this range, longer than the 1,619 mm Basic strips. In a short or wall-mount cabinet, the 2U AP7822B gives the same 32 A capacity horizontally.
Feeding it. A captive 3.0 m IEC 60309 32 A 2P+E commando cord. The rack needs a matching 32 A commando socket on a dedicated circuit - a fixed electrical installation, so budget for an electrician if one is not already in place.
Management and sensors. Web, Telnet, SNMP and SSH are built in with EcoStruxure IT reporting and a one-year Secure NMC subscription, and there are serial, USB and CAN ports as well. The environmental sensor port takes the AP9335T temperature probe or the AP9335TH temperature and humidity sensor - the latter is the one most Singapore sites want, given how quickly rack inlet temperature and humidity both matter here.
What it does not do. No outlet switching - you cannot power-cycle a device remotely from this PDU; that is the Switched range, such as the AP7921B. No per-outlet metering either, only device, phase and bank level. And no surge protection - that is a UPS function.

Locking Output Cords (Sold Separately)
These are the cords that run from this unit's C13 outlets to your equipment's C14 inlets. The locking design stops a cord being nudged out of its outlet while you work in the rack - a common and entirely avoidable cause of an unplanned reboot. Note that this is an output cord kit, not this unit's supply cord - if you also need an input cord, tell us and we will quote the right type for this model.

Two listings in our store share the title "APC NetShelter Metered Rack PDU" - which one is this?
This is AP8853, the 32 A model: 7.4 kW, forty-two outlets (36 C13 and 6 C19), a 1,791 mm strip fed by a captive IEC 60309 commando cord, 6.93 kg. The other listing is AP8858, the 16 A model: 3.7 kW, twenty outlets (18 C13 and 2 C19), a 902 mm strip with a C20 inlet and no attached cord, 2.93 kg. They are quite different products despite sharing a title.
Is it metered per outlet?
No. The AP8853 meters at device, phase and breaker-bank level - current, power and voltage, to ±3% - and shows it on an interactive LCD as well as over the network. Per-outlet measurement is a different product class. Bank-level metering is what you need for load balancing and capacity planning.
Can I add temperature and humidity monitoring?
Yes. The AP8853 has an environmental sensor port that takes the AP9335T temperature probe or the AP9335TH temperature and humidity sensor, sold separately. Given Singapore's ambient conditions and what a failed cooling unit does to a closed cabinet, this is worth adding when you order the PDU.
What supply does it need?
A 32 A IEC 60309 2P+E commando socket on a dedicated circuit. The 3 m cord is captive, so nothing to buy, but the socket is a fixed electrical installation. If you do not have one, the 16 A AP8858 uses an ordinary C20 inlet instead.
Does it have surge protection?
No. Neither Schneider's specification guide nor the product data sheet for the AP8853 contains a surge section, joule rating or clamping figure. Surge suppression is a UPS function, not a PDU one.
Can it switch outlets off remotely?
No - Metered means measurement, not control. To power-cycle a hung device remotely you want a Switched model such as the AP7921B. A common arrangement is a large metered strip for rack-wide distribution plus a small switched PDU for the network equipment you most often need to reboot.
How long is the strip and will it fit my rack?
1,791 mm - the longest unit in this range, sized for a full-height enclosure, and 6.93 kg. Measure the vertical channel before ordering. If the cabinet is short, the 2U AP7822B offers the same 32 A and 7.4 kW horizontally, at the cost of two rack units and with sixteen outlets instead of forty-two.
