The APC AR8122BLK is the NetShelter fixed shelf from APC by Schneider Electric: a 1U, 470 mm wide, 660 mm deep steel shelf that bolts between the front and rear rails of a 19-inch cabinet and carries up to 114 kg (250 lb). It is the answer for the equipment every rack ends up holding that was never designed for a rack — a tower UPS, a desktop switch or firewall, a KVM console, an NVR, a small server, a monitor — and for the heavy items that a cheap cantilever shelf cannot safely take.
It is a fixed shelf, not a sliding one: it does not pull out, which is exactly why it carries 114 kg on 1U. The shelf is ventilated so the equipment on it and the equipment below still get front-to-back airflow, which is why Schneider describes it as ensuring cool air is uniformly distributed to the installed IT equipment.
Fits NetShelter SX, Easy Rack and other four-post cabinets
The shelf mounts to both front and rear rails with an adjustable mounting depth of 673 mm to 826 mm, so it suits the NetShelter SX AR3100, AR3104 and AR3340 and the Easy Rack ER6202, ER6212 and ER8202 on this site, and any other EIA-310 four-post cabinet whose rails sit in that range. It needs both pairs of rails — it is not a two-post cantilever shelf — and comes with its mounting hardware and an installation guide.
Fixed shelf versus cantilever shelf versus sliding shelf
A cantilever shelf hangs off the front rails only and is limited to a few kilograms — fine for a modem, not for a UPS. A sliding shelf pulls out on rails for a keyboard or a laptop but gives up load capacity to the slide mechanism. A fixed four-post shelf like the AR8122BLK is supported at all four corners and is the only one of the three that carries a serious load: 114 kg is a tower UPS with its external battery pack, or a small 4U server with no rail kit, or a monitor and KVM plus a workstation. If the item does not need to move, fixed is the stronger and cheaper choice.
Installation is straightforward: set the shelf depth to match the rail spacing (673 mm to 826 mm), fit cage nuts at the four corners, and bolt the shelf to the front and rear rails with the supplied hardware. It sits flat in its 1U, and a short device on it can be closed off above with AR8136BLK toolless blanking panels so the airflow through the cabinet is not disturbed.

Fits
Any EIA-310 19-inch four-post cabinet whose front and rear rails can be set 673 mm to 826 mm apart. On this site that is the NetShelter SX AR3100, AR3104 and AR3340 and the Easy Rack ER6202, ER6212 and ER8202. It occupies 1U and the equipment on it occupies whatever height it is — leave that clear above the shelf.
Does not fit
Two-post open frames and wall cabinets whose rails are less than 673 mm apart, and any cabinet with only front rails. The AR106VI NetShelter 6U wall-mount enclosure wall-mount enclosure is shallower than the shelf's minimum mounting depth and is not a match.
Load
114 kg static, evenly distributed. That covers a tower UPS with external battery pack, a small server or several desktop devices. Keep the heavy item centred over the shelf rather than at the front edge, and mount heavy shelves low in the rack so the cabinet's centre of gravity stays low.
Pair it with
AR8136BLK toolless blanking panels to close the U above a short device on the shelf, and a rack PDU such as the AP7552 Rack PDU Basic 0U 16 A or AP9559 Rack PDU Basic 1U 16 A to power what sits on it.

Can I put a tower UPS on it?
That is one of its most common uses. A Back-UPS Pro, Easy UPS or tower Smart-UPS on the shelf keeps a rack backed up where a rack-mount UPS was not budgeted. Keep the shelf low in the rack so the weight sits near the floor, and leave airflow space around the UPS fan outlets.
Where in the rack should a heavy shelf go?
As low as practical. A 100 kg load high in a 42U cabinet raises the centre of gravity and makes the AR7701 bolt-down kit essential rather than merely advisable; the same load at the bottom of the rack is simply ballast.
Is the 660 mm depth a problem in a 1000 mm cabinet?
No. The shelf is 660 mm front to back and mounts between rails set 673 mm to 826 mm apart, so in a 1000 mm or 1070 mm deep cabinet with the rails at the factory position there is still room behind it for a 0U PDU and the power leads of whatever sits on the shelf.
