The Dell PowerEdge R660 is Dell's high-density 16th-generation 1U rack server. It takes up to two 5th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 64 cores each (or 4th Gen Xeon Scalable / Xeon Max with up to 56 cores), and 32 DDR5 RDIMM slots for up to 8 TB of memory at up to 5600 MT/s.

Dense NVMe Storage in 1U

Front bays take up to 10 x 2.5-inch SAS/SATA/NVMe drives or up to 16 x EDSFF E3.S Gen5 NVMe drives, with optional rear bays. Up to three PCIe Gen5/Gen4 slots, an OCP 3.0 network slot and up to three 75 W GPUs make it a fit for dense virtualisation, database analytics and high-density compute.

Managed and Secured by iDRAC9

Every R660 ships with Dell's iDRAC9 controller and the OpenManage portfolio for remote monitoring, firmware updates and lifecycle management, backed by a Silicon Root of Trust, cryptographically signed firmware, Secure Boot, System Lockdown and TPM 2.0.

Can it be liquid cooled?

Yes. Direct Liquid Cooling is an option for high-wattage processors, but it needs rack manifolds and a cooling distribution unit in the data centre.

R660 or R660xs?

The R660 offers twice the memory slots (32 vs 16, up to 8 TB), processors with up to 64 cores, E3.S NVMe and liquid-cooling options. The R660xs is the cost-optimised 1U choice for mainstream virtualisation and scale-out work.
