APC CP12036LI — a palm-sized lithium-ion UPS that keeps the router and Wi-Fi up through an outage
The APC CP12036LI is the Back-UPS Connect from APC by Schneider Electric: a 12 Vdc, 36 W mini UPS with a 27.75 Wh lithium-ion battery that sits in line between a router's own power adapter and the router. When the mains fails the router, ONT, mesh node or IP camera keeps running on the battery — Schneider prints up to four hours for an average router — so the home office keeps its internet, the CCTV keeps recording and the smart-home hub keeps talking, without a conventional UPS taking up floor space.
It is 99 mm by 109 mm and 25 mm thick, weighs 300 g and needs no mains socket of its own: the router's existing 12 V adapter plugs into the CP12036LI, and the CP12036LI plugs into the router, using the supplied DC tips.
Why a DC mini UPS, and why lithium-ion
A router draws 10 to 20 W. Protecting it with a 650 VA lead-acid UPS means converting mains to battery to mains to 12 V, wasting most of the energy in the chain and paying for a battery ten times the size. The CP12036LI works entirely at 12 Vdc, so the small 27.75 Wh cell delivers hours rather than minutes, and it draws only 2 W to keep itself charged. Lithium-ion also tolerates Singapore's heat far better than a sealed lead-acid cell, and Schneider describes the battery life as extended compared with traditional VRLA — which matters for a device that will sit behind a TV cabinet for years.
Output is limited to 36 W and 4.1 A with a 15 A fast-acting fuse, which covers a fibre ONT, a consumer or SME router, a mesh access point, a small switch or an IP camera. It is not for a 19 V laptop, a NAS or anything that needs mains.
Fit, tips and indicators
The box includes two additional pairs of DC tips, 2.1 mm and 1.7 mm, so it fits the barrel connectors used on most 12 V routers and ONTs from the local fibre providers and on most 12 V IP cameras and NVR accessories. LED indicators show mains, battery, low input, overload and over-temperature states. Recharge from flat takes about 9 hours. What it protects
Any device powered by a 12 Vdc barrel-connector adapter and drawing 36 W or less: fibre ONTs, consumer and SME routers, mesh Wi-Fi nodes, small unmanaged switches, IP cameras and their PoE-less accessories, smart-home hubs. One CP12036LI protects one device; for a router and a separate ONT, use two.
What it does not protect
Anything on mains (a NAS, a PC, a printer), anything on 19 V or 5 V, PoE-powered devices, and anything drawing more than 36 W. Check the label on the existing power adapter: it must read 12 V output and the current rating multiplied by 12 must be 36 W or less. For a NAS and PC alongside the router, the Back-UPS BX750MI-MS or Easy UPS BV650I-MS are the right tools.
Runtime
Schneider prints up to 4 hours for an average router and 60 to 240 minutes depending on load. A 10 W router will sit near the top of that range; a 30 W router with an ONT will sit near the bottom. Recharge takes about 9 hours, so after a long outage allow most of a day before the next full runtime is available.
Connectors
The supplied lead plus the two additional pairs of DC tips (2.1 mm and 1.7 mm) fit the barrel connectors on the large majority of 12 V networking equipment. If your router uses an unusual connector, send us the adapter model and we will confirm before you order.
Pairing it with a conventional UPS
Many customers run a CP12036LI on the router for hours of internet, and a Easy UPS BV500I-MS or Back-UPS BX950MI-MS on the PC and NAS for a few minutes of clean shutdown. That combination keeps the connection alive long after the computers have shut down, which is usually what a home office actually needs.

The lithium-ion battery is integral to the unit and is not a user-replaceable cartridge; there is no separate RBC part number for the CP12036LI.

Can I use it for an IP camera?
Yes, provided the camera runs from a 12 V adapter (not PoE) and draws under 36 W. It keeps the camera recording through a short outage; the NVR needs its own protection.
Does it get hot or need ventilation?
It draws only 2 W in standby and is rated for 0 to 40 degrees C. Keep it out of a sealed enclosure in direct sun, but a shelf behind the router is fine.
