The EH-LS500B puts out 4,000 lumens of white light and 4,000 lumens of colour light — Epson publishes the same figure for both, so the image does not lose colour saturation as it gets brighter. Paired with a 2,500,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, that is enough to hold a convincing 100-inch to 130-inch picture in a condominium living room with the blinds partly open, a showroom, a clubhouse or a hospitality space. It is a genuine replacement for a large flat panel rather than a projector that only works after dark.
4K PRO-UHD Enhancement From a Full HD 3LCD Engine
Epson's 4K PRO-UHD processing drives a native Full HD 1080p 3LCD engine and shifts each pixel diagonally to place twice as many pixels on screen as Full HD alone, while accepting and processing a 4K signal. The practical result is visibly finer detail and smoother edges than a straight 1080p projector on 4K sources. It is important to be clear about what that means: the panels themselves are Full HD, and the 4K result comes from Epson's pixel-shifting and image processing rather than a native 3840 x 2160 imager.

Placement and screen
The EH-LS500B is an ultra-short-throw projector intended to sit on a low cabinet beneath the screen, between 0.4 and 0.82 metres from the wall depending on whether you want 65 or 130 inches. The cabinet must be level and the wall or screen flat, because only ±3° of manual keystone correction is available on each axis — this is an alignment trim, not a way to correct a badly placed unit. An ambient-light-rejecting screen is strongly recommended if the room has daylight.
What it connects to
Three HDMI inputs with HDCP 2.2 accept 4K sources such as a UHD set-top box, a games console and a 4K Blu-ray player simultaneously. USB Type-A supports media playback and accessory power, and USB Mini-B is a service port. RS-232C allows serial control from a room automation or control system.
Network and content
Android TV is built in on this edition, so apps, casting and voice control run on the projector without a streaming stick. Where corporate or hospitality network policy restricts app stores, the projector works equally well as a plain HDMI display from a managed source device.
