The EW series is BenQ's premium home and entertainment line, and AI Contrast is what distinguishes it from the MOBIUZ gaming range. Rather than applying one fixed tone curve, the EW3290U analyses the picture and adjusts contrast so dark scenes keep their detail and bright scenes keep their highlights. The panel underneath is 31.5-inch IPS at 3840 x 2160 — 140 pixels per inch — rated 350 nits typical with 400 nits peak, certified to VESA DisplayHDR 400 and covering 95% DCI-P3 across 1.07 billion colours.
2.1-Channel Audio Built In — 2W Stereo Plus a 5W Woofer
Most monitors treat sound as an afterthought. The EW3290U carries a genuine 2.1-channel system: two 2W drivers with a separate 5W woofer, so dialogue stays intelligible and film soundtracks keep some low end without a soundbar on the desk. Combined with the 31.5-inch 4K panel, that makes it a sensible single screen for a Singapore flat where the same desk serves work, streaming and film — and a remote control is supplied so it can be driven from across the room.
One USB-C Cable for Video, Data and 65W Charging
The USB-C input carries DisplayPort Alt Mode with 65W Power Delivery, so a work laptop runs the display and charges on a single cable while the monitor hosts the peripherals. Three HDMI 2.0 inputs sit alongside it for a console, a media box and a desktop, and downstream there are three USB Type-A ports and one USB Type-C port, all with 7.5W charging. Mounting and orientation
The supplied stand tilts -5° to 20°, swivels 20° each way, pivots 90° into portrait and provides 110 mm of height adjustment — more travel than the MOBIUZ models carry. A 100 x 100 mm VESA pattern on the rear takes a monitor arm or a wall bracket, worth considering at 31.5 inches where desk depth is often the constraint.

Three HDMI 2.0 inputs plus one USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode and 65W Power Delivery. Note there is no DisplayPort connector on this model: a desktop GPU connects over HDMI, or over USB-C where the card supports it. A media box, a console and a desktop can all stay plugged in at once. Downstream there are three USB Type-A ports and one USB Type-C port, each supporting 7.5W charging, plus a headphone jack.
Audio

What is the difference between the EW range and MOBIUZ?
They are two separate BenQ lines. EW is the premium home and entertainment range, built around BenQ AI Contrast, 4K panels, 2.1-channel audio and a remote control — the EW3290U runs at 60Hz with a 5ms response. MOBIUZ is the gaming line, built around high refresh, low pixel response, FreeSync, Light Tuner and Colour Vibrance. Do not cross-shop them on the same criteria.
What does BenQ AI Contrast actually do?
It analyses the picture and adjusts contrast scene by scene instead of applying a single fixed curve, so dark scenes keep shadow detail and bright scenes keep their highlights. It is a defining feature of the current EW models and is not part of the MOBIUZ feature set.
Does it really not need a soundbar?
The EW3290U has a 2.1-channel system built in: two 2W drivers plus a separate 5W woofer. That is genuinely more capable than the stereo pair in most monitors, and it is what makes the model workable as a standalone film and streaming screen. A headphone jack is also fitted.
