The APC SMX48RMBP2U is the 48 V DC external battery pack built for the Smart-UPS X range at 750 VA, 1000 VA and 1500 VA. It stores 864 VAh and connects directly to the UPS battery bus, so the UPS itself does the charging, the monitoring and the runtime calculation. For a Singapore comms cabinet or small server room, this is how you turn a few minutes of ride-through into enough time for a controlled shutdown of a hypervisor host, a NAS or a core switch stack when a PUB feeder dips during an afternoon storm.
2U Rack or Tower, 490 mm Deep, 28.64 kg
The pack is a genuine rack/tower convertible chassis: 89 mm high (2U), 432 mm wide and 490 mm deep, weighing 28.64 kg net. Plan the rack accordingly — a lead-acid battery pack of this size belongs at the bottom of the cabinet, and the 490 mm depth matches the SMX750I, SMX1000I and SMX1500RMI2U UPS chassis it sits beneath. Rails, rack-mount brackets, two stabiliser brackets and their spacers are supplied in the carton.
Stack Up to Five Packs on One UPS
A single Smart-UPS X unit will recognise and manage as many as five SMX48RMBP2U packs. Runtime scales close to linearly with each pack added, and because the UPS reads the pack count itself, the front-panel runtime estimate and any PowerChute shutdown timing stay accurate as you expand. That makes it a practical way to grow ride-through without replacing the UPS.

Runtime depends entirely on the connected load, so no single figure applies. As a rule, each additional pack adds roughly the same increment of runtime as the one before it, and a lightly loaded UPS gains disproportionately more minutes than a heavily loaded one. Tell us your actual load in watts and how many minutes you need, and we will size the number of packs for you rather than guess.
The pack carries no outlets and no AC input of its own — it is a DC battery extension that connects to the UPS. All load connection, metering and management stay with the UPS, including any SmartSlot network management card fitted to it.

What is the difference between SMX48RMBP2U, SMX120RMBP2U and SMX120BP?
Battery bus voltage first, then chassis. The SMX48RMBP2U is 48 V for the 750–1500 VA models. The SMX120RMBP2U is a 120 V 2U pack for the 2U rack Smart-UPS X models, and the SMX120BP is a 120 V 4U pack for the 4U tower/rack models. They are not substitutes for one another.
What batteries are inside, and can I replace them later?
Two APCRBC115 genuine APC replacement battery cartridges. When the pack reaches end of battery life you replace the cartridges rather than the whole pack — order the APCRBC115 from us. Follow the safety instructions in the APC installation guide when servicing; Schneider does not describe this pack as hot-swappable, so plan the work into a maintenance window.
What do I need to allow for in the rack?
2U of height, 490 mm of depth and 28.64 kg of weight per pack. Mount battery packs low in the cabinet for stability, and check your rack's static load rating before stacking several.
Is the warranty valid in Singapore, and do I get a GST invoice?
