Twenty-Four Switched Outlets on a 16 A Commando Feed
The APC NetShelter Switched Rack PDU APDU9959EU3 is the 16 A member of the 9000 series for 230 V racks: twenty-one IEC C13 and three IEC C19 outlets, each individually switchable over the network, rated 3,700 VA. The "EU3" suffix means it ships with a 3 m locking input cord that ends in an IEC 60309 16 A 2P+E plug - the blue commando connector found on row PDUs and busway tap-offs in Singapore data centres - plugged into the strip's C20 inlet.
It is the strip to specify when a rack has a 16 A feed and you want remote power-cycling on every outlet without paying for 32 A capacity you cannot use.
Remote Switching, Sequencing and Alarms
Any outlet can be switched on, off or power-cycled from the built-in web, SNMP or SSH interface or through EcoStruxure IT, so a hung switch in a colocation cage is fixed from your desk. Power-on sequencing and delays keep a rack from drawing its full inrush at once after an outage, and alarm thresholds on the metered load warn you before the 16 A limit is reached. A one-year Secure Network Management Card subscription is included.
9000-Series Platform: Gigabit Ethernet, NMC3, LCD, Sensor Port
The 9000 series is Schneider's current NetShelter switched platform: a Gigabit Ethernet management port on the NMC3 architecture, a local LCD with buttons for current, power and voltage, a USB port, a universal I/O port for environmental sensors, and Network Port Sharing that lets one network connection manage a group of 9000-series strips through their Link A and Link B ports. Outlets are hybrid C13/C15 and C19/C21 types with a locking feature for APC locking cords, and each has a green LED that shows when it is energised.

Compatibility & Rack Fit
What you can plug into it. Twenty-one IEC C13 outlets for C14-corded servers, switches and appliances, and three IEC C19 outlets for C20-corded storage or larger switches. The hybrid outlets also accept C15 and C21 plugs, and the locking feature works with APC locking cords.
Load planning. 16 A total, 3,700 VA at 230 V, shared by twenty-four outlets. The PDU meters its load and lets you set an alarm threshold, so you see the headroom rather than guess it. A rack of dual-PSU servers usually wants two 16 A strips on A and B feeds, or the 32 A APDU9953.
Feeding it. The supplied 3 m locking cord plugs into the strip's C20 inlet and ends in an IEC 60309 16 A 2P+E commando plug, so the rack needs a 16 A commando socket on a row PDU, busway or fixed outlet. If the rack has a C19 outlet on a UPS instead, tell us - the same strip can be fed with a C19-to-C20 lead.
Rack fit. A 0U strip 1,794 mm long, 55 mm wide and 46 mm deep, weighing 5.61 kg. It needs a full-height enclosure with a rear vertical channel and mounts toolless, consuming no rack units. For a short cabinet the 1U AP7921B gives eight switched C13 outlets at 16 A.
Management and sensors. Gigabit Ethernet on the NMC3 platform with Web, SNMP and SSH, reporting into EcoStruxure IT, plus Network Port Sharing so a row of 9000-series strips can share one uplink. The universal I/O port takes an APC environmental sensor; ask us to confirm the right sensor part for the 9000 series when you order. The AP9640 and AP9641 cards we sell are Smart-UPS accessories and are not used with this PDU.
What it does not do. No surge protection and no battery - a UPS upstream is still required. It is not metered per outlet; the 2G AP8659 provides per-outlet metering and switching at the same 16 A rating.

Locking Output Cords (Sold Separately)
These are the cords that run from this unit's C13 outlets to your equipment's C14 inlets. The locking design stops a cord being nudged out of its outlet while you work in the rack - a common and entirely avoidable cause of an unplanned reboot. Note that this is an output cord kit, not this unit's supply cord - if you also need an input cord, tell us and we will quote the right type for this model.

Frequently Asked Questions — APC APDU9959EU3
What does the EU3 suffix mean?
That the strip ships with a 3 m locking input cord ending in an IEC 60309 16 A 2P+E commando plug, fitted to the strip's C20 inlet. It is the version for racks fed from 16 A commando sockets, which is the usual arrangement in Singapore data centres and colocation cages.
What is the capacity - some listings say 11 kW?
16 A and 3,700 VA at 230 V. That is what Schneider's specification sheet for the APDU9959EU3 prints, and it is what a 16 A single-phase feed can deliver. Any larger figure you may see against this part number belongs to a three-phase model in the same series.
Is it metered per outlet?
No. The APDU9959EU3 meters the PDU load and switches every outlet individually, but it does not report energy per outlet. If per-outlet metering is the requirement, the 2G AP8659 provides it at the same 16 A rating and outlet count.
What is Network Port Sharing?
A way of managing several 9000-series Rack PDUs through one network connection. The strips are cabled together through their Link A and Link B ports and appear under the one management interface, saving switch ports and IP addresses across a row.
Can I add a temperature and humidity sensor?
Yes - the 9000 series has a universal I/O port for APC environmental sensors. Ask us to confirm the right sensor part number for the 9000 series when you order.
Does it have surge protection?
No. Schneider's specification sheet for the APDU9959EU3 has no surge section, joule rating or clamping figure. Surge and sag protection belongs at a UPS upstream.
How does it compare with the APDU9953?
Same 9000-series platform and the same twenty-one C13 and three C19 outlets.
