A great many listings, including this one until now, described the RBC5 as a 12 V cartridge. Twelve volts is the rating of each block inside it; the cartridge that goes into the UPS is 24 V.

The 24 V Correction, and Why It Matters

Schneider’s product data sheet populates the battery-voltage field as 24 V, and two independent checks agree. The 4.96 kg net weight divides into two blocks of about 2.48 kg, which is exactly what a 12 V 7 Ah cell weighs. And Schneider’s own FAQ for the Smart-UPS 700 Net describes the RBC5 as having two batteries inside it.

The dimensions correct in the same direction. The real cartridge is 94 x 130 x 150 mm; the previous listing gave a 65 mm width, which is one block wide, not two. Capacity stays at 7.0 Ah — series wiring doubles the voltage and leaves the amp-hour rating where it is, which is why 7 Ah was the one figure the old page had right.

Confirmed fit: APC Smart-UPS 700 Net (SU700NET)

Schneider’s FAQ FA156525 names the RBC5 as the replacement battery cartridge for the SU700NET and describes it as containing two batteries. That is a Schneider statement about a specific model, which puts it in a different class from the distributor cross-references most cartridges in this range have to rely on.

The mains-voltage caveat, stated plainly

The SU700NET is a 120 V North American model. No 230 V host carrying the APC “I” international suffix could be confirmed for the RBC5 in any Schneider document. On the available evidence this is an installed-base part — genuinely useful to anyone maintaining imported or legacy equipment, but not a cartridge with a confirmed Singapore-mains host. Distributor tables additionally name the SU1400, SU1400NET, SU1400RM and SU1400RMNET, all of which are also North American nameplates and none of which is Schneider-confirmed.

Hot-swap

Because the confirmed host is a Smart-UPS, Schneider’s FAQ FA303216 applies at family level: it states that Smart-UPS models with user-replaceable batteries introduced from 1995 onward can have the battery module removed and replaced without affecting the load. Schneider adds its own caveat, and it is worth repeating: during the brief period while the battery is disconnected the UPS has no battery backup available, so a mains failure at that moment will drop the load. Schneider does not publish a hot-swap statement for the RBC5 specifically, so treat this as a family-level position and follow the instruction sheet supplied with the cartridge.

Runtime

Fitting a new cartridge restores the runtime the UPS was designed to deliver; it does not extend it, and the actual figure depends on connected load. A unit at half load will run substantially longer than the same unit at full load, and after a cartridge change it is worth letting the UPS complete a full recharge before relying on a runtime estimate.

The Smart-UPS 700 Net (SU700NET) is the confirmed fit, stated by Schneider in FAQ FA156525. Distributor tables add the SU1400 family; those are unconfirmed and all of them are 120 V North American models.

Does it suit a UPS on Singapore mains?

Possibly not, and we would rather say so before you order. No 230 V host has been confirmed for the RBC5 in any Schneider document. If your UPS is a 230 V unit, check the number printed on the cartridge you are removing, or send us the model and serial and we will confirm which cartridge it takes.

Can I swap it with the UPS still running?

Why is 7 Ah the same as the RBC32 if the packs are different sizes?

Because amp-hours describe the cells, not the box. Both cartridges use two 12 V 7 Ah blocks in series to make 24 V; they are packaged for completely different battery bays, so the RBC32 is a flat 197 x 149 x 64 mm pack and the RBC5 a squat 94 x 130 x 150 mm one.

The old listing said 5.4 kg and this one says 4.96 kg. Which applies for freight?

4.96 kg is the net weight of the cartridge and 5.46 kg is the packaged weight; use the packaged figure for shipping. The old 5.4 kg number sat close to the packaged weight but was labelled as the product weight and was paired with the wrong voltage, so it is best treated as coincidence rather than data.

Does it come with a local Singapore warranty?
