APC Replacement Battery Cartridge #27
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
APC Replacement Battery Cartridge #27 (RBC27) - 2 Years Local Warranty
APC RBC27 Replacement Battery Cartridge — 48 V, 24.55 kg, Smart-UPS XL 3U
The APC RBC27 is a 48 V sealed lead-acid replacement battery cartridge for the Smart-UPS XL 3U rack family. Schneider Electric publishes the voltage outright in its product data sheet, along with a net weight of 24.55 kg and a long 108 x 165 x 572 mm case — the depth of a 3U chassis, which is exactly what it slides into.
This is the heaviest cartridge in this group and one of the more consequential to get right. At 48 V it sits well above the 12 V and 24 V packs used in desktop units, and it belongs to a rack UPS family designed for extended runtime with external packs daisy-chained behind it.
Confirmed 230 V Hosts — the Singapore-Relevant Cartridge in This Group
Most cartridges in this batch turn out to serve 120 V North American equipment. The RBC27 is the exception. Distributor compatibility data lists it against the SU2200RMXLI3U and SU3000RMXLI3U alongside their 120 V siblings, and the “I” in those part numbers is APC’s own suffix for the 230 V international build — the voltage Singapore runs on.
That makes the RBC27 a genuine maintenance part for equipment that was actually sold into this market, rather than an installed-base item for imported hardware. The same listings add the external battery packs SU48RMXLBP3U and SU48R3XLBP, which is consistent with a 48 V bus.
Rack UPS Battery Replacement Without a Maintenance Window
The hosts named for this cartridge are Smart-UPS units, which brings them inside Schneider’s hot-swap position for Smart-UPS models with user-replaceable batteries introduced from 1995 onward. The precise wording, and the caution that goes with it, are quoted in the Compatibility & Runtime section below.
For a rack in a Singapore comms room that is the difference between a scheduled outage and a routine visit. It is still a 24.55 kg module coming out of a rack, so plan the lift, and where the unit sits high in the cabinet plan it with two people.
Local Supply, GST Invoice and Two-Year Warranty
SourceIT supplies the RBC27 as genuine APC stock from Singapore with GST invoicing and local warranty handling. Schneider states the cartridge warranty as two years, repair or replace, worldwide and without a regional split, and lists the part as commercialised rather than end-of-life.
Because these are extended-runtime systems, a site often has several cartridges of different numbers in the same rack — one inside the UPS and others in the packs behind it. Send us the model and serial of each and we will map the whole rack before you order.

Compatibility & Runtime
Which UPS models take the RBC27
Schneider’s own product copy places the cartridge in the Smart-UPS XL family without naming models. Compatibility data published by RS Components, corroborated independently by a separate retail listing and by a customer account on Schneider’s own community forum, names:
- SU2200RMXL3U and SU3000RMXL3U — 120 V rack units
- SU2200RMXLI3U and SU3000RMXLI3U — the 230 V international builds
- SU48RMXLBP3U and SU48R3XLBP — the matching 48 V external battery packs
None of that comes from a Schneider document, so it is published as distributor data. It is, however, internally consistent: a 48 V cartridge belongs on a 48 V bus, and the pack part numbers carry the 48 in their names.
The 230 V point, stated positively
The SU2200RMXLI3U and SU3000RMXLI3U are 230 V units. Among the cartridges treated in this batch, the RBC27 is the one with the clearest Singapore-mains host, which matters if you are maintaining equipment that was bought locally rather than imported.
Hot-swap
Schneider’s FAQ FA303216 states that Smart-UPS models with user-replaceable batteries introduced from 1995 onward allow the battery module to be removed and replaced without affecting the load. The hosts reported for the RBC27 are in that family, so the statement applies at family level. Schneider adds its own caveat, and it is worth repeating: during the brief period while the battery is disconnected the UPS has no battery backup available, so a mains failure at that moment will drop the load. Schneider publishes no RBC27-specific hot-swap wording, and the installation sheet supplied with the cartridge is the authority on the procedure for your unit.
Runtime and extended-runtime packs
Replacing the cartridge restores the runtime the system was designed for. Where a site needs more than that, the XL architecture is built to take external battery packs on the same 48 V bus — and those packs hold cartridges of their own that age at the same rate as the one inside the UPS. If the UPS cartridge is due, the pack cartridges usually are too.
Package Contents & RBC Series Ordering Information
In the box
One assembled APC RBC27 cartridge and the APC installation instruction sheet (APC document 990-1037). Schneider does not publish a colour for this part, and its data sheet does not carry a rack-mount rating for the cartridge itself — it seats inside the UPS or pack chassis.
Related APC parts at SourceIT
Cartridge numbers in this range are not interchangeable. Two cartridges can share a case, a weight and a chemistry and still differ in voltage, capacity or connector, so the number printed on the pack you are removing is the only safe way to order a replacement.

Freight and handling
26.36 kg packaged in a 279 x 311 x 737 mm carton. Handle as a two-person lift, and check the access route to the rack before delivery — a 737 mm carton does not turn easily in a tight comms room.

Frequently Asked Questions — APC RBC27
What voltage is the RBC27?
48 V. Schneider states it in the battery-voltage field of its product data sheet, which makes this one of the few cartridges in the legacy range where the figure is published outright rather than inferred. It is not a 12 V part, despite older listings saying so.
Does the RBC27 fit a 230 V UPS?
Yes, on the available evidence. The SU2200RMXLI3U and SU3000RMXLI3U carry APC’s “I” suffix for the 230 V international build and are listed as hosts by distributor compatibility data. That data is not a Schneider document, so confirm against the number printed on your existing cartridge before ordering.
How many batteries are inside it?
Schneider does not state a block count for this cartridge, so none is published here. What is published is the pack voltage, 48 V, and the net weight, 24.55 kg — enough to tell you this is a substantial multi-block assembly rather than a single cell.
Can I replace it without taking the rack down?
Schneider’s hot-swap FAQ says yes for Smart-UPS models with user-replaceable batteries, which is the family the RBC27’s reported hosts belong to. Bear in mind that while the old pack is disconnected the load has no reserve behind it, so a mains failure in that window will drop it. And plan the lift — this is a 24.55 kg module coming out of a rack.
Why is the storage temperature range different from other cartridges?
Schneider prints -5 to 45 °C for the RBC27 where most cartridges in the range show -15 to 45 °C. That is reproduced as published rather than harmonised with its siblings. In Singapore it makes no practical difference, but it is worth knowing if stock is held in a chilled store.
How does it compare with the RBC31?
Both are 48 V. The RBC31 is 9 Ah in an 11.23 kg tray 419 mm long; the RBC27 is 24.55 kg in a 572 mm case, more than twice the mass. They serve different chassis and are not interchangeable.
Does it come with a local Singapore warranty?
Yes. Every APC RBC27 sold by SourceIT comes with local Singapore warranty and a GST invoice; APC backs the RBC27 with a 2-year manufacturer warranty. Schneider states the term as two years, repair or replace, with no regional split, so the figure above is the one that applies in Singapore.
