APC Replacement Battery Cartridge #24 (RBC24) - 2 Years Local Warranty

RBC24 Datasheet: the Largest Cartridge in the 2U Smart-UPS Rack Family

The RBC24 is the genuine APC replacement battery cartridge for the top of the 2U rackmount Smart-UPS family. Schneider covers it in the same installation guide as the RBC22, RBC23 and the Japanese RBC24J, titled for "Smart-UPS 2 U, 700 VA, 1000 VA, 1400 VA".

It uses the same 83 x 216 x 343 mm carrier as its siblings and is the heaviest of them at 11.96 kg, which works out at four 12 V 9 Ah blocks — the same four-block architecture as the RBC23 but with the higher-capacity block.

Why This Listing Does Not State a Cartridge Voltage

Schneider's published net weight tells us this tray holds four 12 V blocks. What it does not tell us is how they are wired. Four blocks can sit as four in series, giving 48 V at the block capacity, or as two parallel pairs, giving 24 V at double the capacity. Schneider's data-sheet template does have a battery-voltage field — it is filled in as 24 V on the sibling RBC22 — but on this part it is left empty, and nothing else Schneider publishes distinguishes the two arrangements from outside the tray.

So this page gives you Schneider's per-block figure of 12 V 9 Ah, the block count derived from the published mass, and an honest statement that the assembled voltage is not published. We would rather be useful and correct than complete and wrong. Order by part number against your UPS; if you need the system voltage for a design, ask us and we will put the question to the distributor.

A Documented Hot-Swap in a Live Comms Room

Schneider's installation guide for this cartridge family says it directly: you may leave the UPS and the protected equipment on for the procedure, the tray is designed to be hot-swappable, and battery replacement is isolated from electrical hazards. That is a real operational advantage in a rack that cannot easily be taken down for a change window.

The caveat is Schneider's own and we will not bury it: while the battery is disconnected the UPS cannot ride through an outage. At 11.96 kg this is also a two-hand lift, so clear the space in front of the cabinet before you start rather than during.

Singapore is hard on lead-acid batteries. Ambient temperature sits near the top of the useful band all year, and every few degrees of sustained heat shortens a sealed lead-acid battery's service life measurably. A comms cabinet or riser room that runs warm will age a cartridge faster than an air-conditioned server room will. Plan replacement on the calendar instead of waiting for the UPS to fail its self-test, and keep the unit out of direct sun and clear of the warm-air discharge from whatever it is protecting.

Genuine APC Supply, GST-Invoiced, from Singapore Stock

SourceIT supplies the RBC24 as genuine APC by Schneider Electric stock, sold in Singapore with a GST invoice and local warranty support. We hold this part on the shelf instead of ordering it in, so a failed UPS does not have to wait on a shipment. If you are not certain which cartridge your unit takes, send us the model number printed on the UPS rear panel and we will confirm it against Schneider's documentation before you buy.

Schneider Electric does not publish a UL listing or a CE marking for this cartridge, and we do not claim either. What Schneider does publish is a REACh declaration and a RoHS position, and those are reproduced in the specification table exactly as written.

The blank voltage row, in short. Schneider's data-sheet template does carry a battery-voltage field, and on the sibling RBC22 it is filled in as 24 V. On the RBC24 it is left empty. The 11.96 kg net weight establishes four blocks of 12 V 9 Ah, but four blocks can be wired as 48 V in series or as 24 V in two parallel pairs, and nothing Schneider publishes distinguishes the two. Match the cartridge by part number against your UPS, never by comparing voltage or physical size. The reasoning is set out in full further up the page.

The carbon figure is also omitted. Schneider's data sheet gives 41 kg CO2 eq. for this part while its own product pages give 83 kg. We have left it out rather than choose between two of the manufacturer's own numbers. Green Premium status is likewise not asserted on this part's data sheet, unlike its siblings, so we do not claim it. Schneider publishes no charge time for a replacement cartridge. Recharge time is a property of the UPS that charges it, not of the battery tray, so look it up on your UPS model, not here.

Compatibility & Runtime

What the RBC24 fits

From Schneider's own installation guide, document SPD_ASTE-6Z8LGE_EN, catalogued as "Replacement Batteries: Smart-UPS 2 U, 700 VA, 1000 VA, 1400 VA". The guide covers the RBC22, RBC23, RBC24 and RBC24J against these hosts:

  • SU700RM2U — 120 V
  • SU1000RM2U — 120 V
  • SU1400RM2U — 120 V
  • SU1400RMJ2U — 100 V, Japan

The guide does not split the four cartridges across the four UPS models. As the highest-capacity member of the group, the RBC24 belongs at the 1400 VA end of the family, with the RBC24J being the Japanese-market equivalent for the SU1400RMJ2U. That is a reasoned reading of the guide, not a quotation from it.

230 V hosts for Singapore

Schneider's named models are 120 V and 100 V builds. The same 2U chassis was sold in 230 V "I"-suffix form, and those are the realistic Singapore installed base. No Schneider document ties a specific 230 V model to a specific cartridge in this group, so send us your UPS model number and we will confirm with the distributor before you order.

Several APC cartridges share this exact tray. Only the part number tells them apart.

Schneider publishes the same 83 x 216 x 343 mm case and the same 152 x 368 x 495 mm carton across cartridges of genuinely different capacity, and it reuses the same net weights too: 10.00 kg appears on more than one part in this case, and so does 11.96 kg. Measuring a cartridge, weighing it, or comparing it against a photograph cannot reliably tell you which one you are holding.

In this tray, RBC22 is 5 kg, RBC23 is 10 kg and the RBC24 is 11.96 kg. Schneider publishes the same case and the same 11.96 kg net weight for current-generation APCRBC cartridges as well, so weight alone will not always identify a part. Read the label.

Changing the cartridge

This is one of the few APC cartridges where Schneider states the answer directly. The installation guide that covers the RBC22, RBC23, RBC24 and RBC24J says in its own words: "You may leave the UPS and the protected equipment on for the following procedure", and describes the design as an easy to replace hot-swappable battery tray, adding that battery replacement is a safe procedure isolated from electrical hazards. Schneider's general Smart-UPS hot-swap FAQ says the same for the range.

The caveat Schneider attaches is worth carrying over rather than burying: while the battery is disconnected, the UPS has no backup available. If the supply is unstable — a storm afternoon, or works in the building — wait. The guide in the box remains the authority on the procedure for your unit.

Runtime

A fresh cartridge restores the runtime the UPS was rated for at your load; it does not extend it. As the largest cartridge in its family the RBC24 supports the longest runtimes in the group, but runtime still falls steeply as load rises, so work from the measured load rather than the nameplate.

Sealed lead-acid cartridges must not go into general waste in Singapore. Bring the exhausted cartridge back to us with the replacement and we can arrange collection through a licensed recycler, or dispose of it through your own NEA-licensed collector.

Datasheet & Downloads

Every link below is a Schneider Electric page we have opened and confirmed resolves.

We deliberately do not publish direct PDF links for this part. Schneider's file-download host redirects across domains and has repeatedly returned a different model's document than the one requested, so a direct link is not safe to rely on. Every link above is a Schneider Electric landing page that we have opened and checked. If you would like the PDF itself, email sales@sourceit.com.sg with your UPS model and we will send the current revision together with a GST-invoiced quotation.

Frequently Asked Questions — APC RBC24

What voltage is the RBC24?
Schneider does not publish one for the assembled cartridge, so neither do we. What is established is four 12 V 9 Ah blocks: 11.96 kg across four blocks is 2.99 kg each, an exact match. Four blocks can be wired as 48 V in series or 24 V in two parallel pairs, and Schneider leaves the field that would settle it empty on this part.

Which UPS models does it fit?
Schneider's installation guide covers the 2U rackmount Smart-UPS 700, 1000 and 1400 VA family: SU700RM2U, SU1000RM2U, SU1400RM2U and SU1400RMJ2U. As the highest-capacity cartridge in the group the RBC24 belongs at the 1400 VA end, with the RBC24J being the Japanese equivalent. For Singapore the hosts are the 230 V siblings of that chassis; send us your model number and we will confirm.

How is it different from the RBC23?
Both hold four blocks in the same 83 x 216 x 343 mm tray. The RBC23's blocks are the 7 Ah class at 10 kg total; the RBC24's are the 9 Ah class at 11.96 kg. That two-kilogram gap is the only physical difference, which is why you should order by part number and read the label on the cartridge you take out.

Can I change it with the UPS running?
Yes. Schneider's installation guide for this cartridge family states you may leave the UPS and the protected equipment on for the procedure and describes the tray as hot-swappable. Schneider's caveat applies: while the battery is disconnected there is no backup available. At nearly 12 kg, clear your working space first.

Why does the listing not show a carbon footprint?
Because Schneider publishes two different figures for it — 41 kg CO2 eq. on the data sheet and 83 kg on its own product pages. We would rather show nothing than pick one of the manufacturer's two numbers at random. Ask us if you need it for a reporting exercise and we will raise it with the distributor.

How long should it last?
Schneider publishes no expected service life for this part. Heat is the deciding factor, and Singapore supplies plenty of it. A 2U unit low in a warm cabinet ages faster than the same unit in a conditioned room. Test rather than assume.

Does it come with a local Singapore warranty?
Yes. Every APC RBC24 sold by SourceIT comes with local Singapore warranty and a GST invoice; APC backs the RBC24 with a 2-year manufacturer warranty.
