APC Replacement Battery Cartridge #22
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
APC Replacement Battery Cartridge #22 (RBC22) - 2 Years Local Warranty
RBC22 Datasheet: a 24 V, 7 Ah Cartridge for 2U Smart-UPS Rack Units
The RBC22 is the genuine APC replacement battery cartridge for the smaller members of the 2U rackmount Smart-UPS family. Schneider covers it in a dedicated installation guide alongside the RBC23, RBC24 and RBC24J, titled for "Smart-UPS 2 U, 700 VA, 1000 VA, 1400 VA".
Schneider fills in the cartridge voltage field on this part, which makes it the anchor for the whole tray family: 24 V, 7.0 Ah, in an 83 x 216 x 343 mm carrier weighing 5 kg.
The Most Important Correction on This Page: It Is 24 V, Not 12 V
Schneider's own Singapore product page for this part carries the line "12V 7.0AH replaceable battery for APC Smart-UPS". That is the rating of one block inside the tray, and it is not the rating of the cartridge.
The assembled cartridge is 24 V — Schneider says so outright in the battery-voltage field of its product data sheet, which on this part is filled in rather than left blank. The 5 kg net weight confirms it: two 12 V 7 Ah blocks at roughly 2.5 kg each. A genuine single-block 12 V 7 Ah cartridge would weigh about half as much.
We are spelling this out because a 12 V figure on a 24 V cartridge is the kind of error that ends in a return, and because this part's published voltage is what lets us reason about its siblings honestly.
A Documented Hot-Swap, Which Is Rarer Than It Sounds
Most APC replacement cartridges carry no manufacturer statement about changing them live, and we normally say so rather than imply one. The RBC22 is different. Schneider's installation guide for this cartridge states it directly: you may leave the UPS and the protected equipment on for the procedure, the tray is designed to be hot-swappable, and battery replacement is isolated from electrical hazards.
For a rack in a live comms room that is a real operational advantage — no change window, no coordinated shutdown. Schneider's caveat still applies and we will not bury it: while the battery is disconnected the UPS cannot ride through an outage, so pick a calm afternoon rather than a stormy one.
Genuine APC Supply, GST-Invoiced, from Singapore Stock
SourceIT supplies the RBC22 as genuine APC by Schneider Electric stock, sold in Singapore with a GST invoice and local warranty support. We hold this part on the shelf instead of ordering it in, so a failed UPS does not have to wait on a shipment. If you are not certain which cartridge your unit takes, send us the model number printed on the UPS rear panel and we will confirm it against Schneider's documentation before you buy.
Schneider Electric does not publish a UL listing or a CE marking for this cartridge, and we do not claim either. What Schneider does publish is a REACh declaration and a RoHS position, and those are reproduced in the specification table exactly as written.

Do not read the per-block figure as the cartridge rating. Schneider's product page reads "12V 7.0AH" and its data sheet's battery-voltage field reads 24 V. The second is the cartridge. This is the only member of its tray family for which Schneider fills that field in, which is why this part is the reference point for the others. Schneider publishes no charge time for a replacement cartridge. Recharge time is a property of the UPS that charges it, not of the battery tray, so look it up on your UPS model, not here.
Compatibility & Runtime
What the RBC22 fits
From Schneider's own installation guide, document SPD_ASTE-6Z8LGE_EN, whose catalogue title is "Replacement Batteries: Smart-UPS 2 U, 700 VA, 1000 VA, 1400 VA". The guide covers the RBC22, RBC23, RBC24 and RBC24J against these hosts:
- SU700RM2U — 120 V
- SU1000RM2U — 120 V
- SU1400RM2U — 120 V
- SU1400RMJ2U — 100 V, Japan
An important limitation, stated plainly: the guide covers four cartridges against four UPS models and does not say which cartridge goes with which UPS. Since the RBC22 is the 24 V, 7 Ah member and the smallest of the four, it is the one that belongs to the 700 to 750 VA end of the family, and APC's own retail listings name the RBC23 against the 1000 VA units and the RBC24 against the 1400 VA ones. That is a reasoned split, not a Schneider statement, so confirm your model with us before ordering.
230 V hosts for Singapore
The models Schneider names in the guide are 120 V and 100 V builds. The 230 V siblings of the same chassis do exist and are the realistic Singapore installed base:
- SU700RMI2U — APC Smart-UPS 700VA RM 2U 230V. Catalogued by Schneider; not named against this cartridge in a Schneider document.
- SUA750RMI2U — APC Smart-UPS 750 VA USB RM 2U 230 V, discontinued March 2023 and superseded by the SMT750RMI2UC. A proven distributor names the RBC22 for it; Schneider's own page says only that a replacement battery is available without naming it.
We present both as likely rather than confirmed. Send us the model number and we will put it to the distributor.
One model the RBC22 does NOT fit
Some distributor listings claim the RBC22 fits the SMT750RMI2U. It does not. Schneider's data sheet for the SmartConnect generation of that unit names APCRBC123 as its replacement battery. The SMT 750 VA 2U generation is an APCRBC123 host, and fitting an RBC22 there is a wasted order.
Several APC cartridges share this exact tray. Only the part number tells them apart.
Schneider publishes the same 83 x 216 x 343 mm case and the same 152 x 368 x 495 mm carton across cartridges of genuinely different capacity, and it reuses the same net weights too: 10.00 kg appears on more than one part in this case, and so does 11.96 kg. Measuring a cartridge, weighing it, or comparing it against a photograph cannot reliably tell you which one you are holding.
The RBC22's own 5 kg is the lightest of the group and is the one figure that does distinguish it — but only if you have accurate scales and know what you are comparing against. RBC23 is 10 kg and RBC24 is 11.96 kg in the same case. Order by part number.
Changing the cartridge
This is one of the few APC cartridges where Schneider states the answer directly. The installation guide that covers the RBC22, RBC23, RBC24 and RBC24J says in its own words: "You may leave the UPS and the protected equipment on for the following procedure", and describes the design as an easy to replace hot-swappable battery tray, adding that battery replacement is a safe procedure isolated from electrical hazards. Schneider's general Smart-UPS hot-swap FAQ says the same for the range.
The caveat Schneider attaches is worth carrying over rather than burying: while the battery is disconnected, the UPS has no backup available. If the supply is unstable — a storm afternoon, or works in the building — wait. The guide in the box remains the authority on the procedure for your unit.
Runtime
A fresh cartridge restores the runtime the UPS was rated for at your load; it does not extend it, and runtime falls steeply as load rises. If you need materially longer, that is a UPS decision rather than a battery one.
Sealed lead-acid cartridges must not go into general waste in Singapore. Bring the exhausted cartridge back to us with the replacement and we can arrange collection through a licensed recycler, or dispose of it through your own NEA-licensed collector.

Frequently Asked Questions — APC RBC22
Is the RBC22 12 V or 24 V?
24 V. Schneider states it in the battery-voltage field of its own product data sheet, and the 5 kg net weight confirms it as two 12 V 7 Ah blocks. The "12V 7.0AH" on Schneider's product page is the per-block rating. Publishing 12 V for this cartridge is a factual error and a common cause of returns.
Which UPS models does it fit?
Schneider's installation guide covers the 2U rackmount Smart-UPS 700, 1000 and 1400 VA family: SU700RM2U, SU1000RM2U, SU1400RM2U and SU1400RMJ2U. As the 24 V 7 Ah member it belongs at the 700 to 750 VA end. For Singapore the realistic hosts are the 230 V siblings, SU700RMI2U and SUA750RMI2U, which we present as likely rather than confirmed. Send us your model number.
Does it fit the SMT750RMI2U?
No, despite what some listings say. Schneider's data sheet for the SmartConnect build of that unit names the APCRBC123 as its replacement battery. The SMT 750 VA 2U generation is an APCRBC123 host.
Can I change it without shutting the UPS down?
Yes, and unusually for this range Schneider says so directly. The installation guide covering the RBC22, RBC23, RBC24 and RBC24J states that you may leave the UPS and the protected equipment on for the procedure, and describes the tray as hot-swappable. The caveat is Schneider's own: while the battery is disconnected there is no backup, so do not do it during unstable supply.
How do I tell an RBC22 from an RBC23 or RBC24?
By the part number on the label, and realistically by nothing else. All three share the same 83 x 216 x 343 mm case and the same carton. Weight is the only physical difference — 5 kg, 10 kg and 11.96 kg respectively — and that only helps if you have scales and know what you are comparing against.
How long should it last?
Schneider publishes no expected service life for this part, so we will not quote one. Sustained heat is the main factor and Singapore supplies it, so a unit in a warm comms cabinet will need replacing sooner than one in a conditioned room. Test the UPS rather than assume.
Does it come with a local Singapore warranty?
Yes. Every APC RBC22 sold by SourceIT comes with local Singapore warranty and a GST invoice; APC backs the RBC22 with a 2-year manufacturer warranty.
