The TL-WPA4220 KIT is TP-Link's long-running entry-level powerline Wi-Fi pair: a plain TL-PA4010 adapter for the router end and a TL-WPA4220 extender with two Fast Ethernet ports and 300 Mbps 2.4 GHz wireless for the far end. It is the cheapest way to put both a wired port and a Wi-Fi signal into a room the router does not reach.

HomePlug AV Powerline Over Existing Wiring

The published standards for this kit are HomePlug AV, IEEE802.3, IEEE802.3u and IEEE802.11b/g/n, with a rated range of 300 metres over the electrical circuit. Note that TP-Link publishes no powerline throughput row anywhere in this model's specification table — the "AV600" designation appears in the product name and package line only. We do not print a powerline speed figure TP-Link does not publish for this model.

300 Mbps 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi With One-Touch Cloning

Wireless is single-band: 11n up to 300 Mbps, 11g up to 54 Mbps and 11b up to 11 Mbps, all dynamic. The Wi-Fi/Wi-Fi Clone button copies the router's network name and password onto the extender in one press, so devices roam onto it without being reconfigured. Security is published as 64/128-bit WEP, WPA/WPA2 and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK, with powerline traffic separately encrypted at 128-bit AES.

Two Fast Ethernet Ports on the Extender

The TL-WPA4220 carries two 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports — Fast Ethernet, not Gigabit. That suits a smart TV, a set-top box, a printer or a console; for Gigabit wired speed choose the TL-WPA7517 KIT or the TL-WPA8631P KIT. Power draw for the kit is published at a maximum of 7.608 W, typical 7.216 W and 4.610 W standby, measured at 220 V/50 Hz.

Published Radio Figures You Rarely See at This Price

Unusually for an entry-level product, TP-Link publishes full reception-sensitivity figures for this model, from -68 dBm at 270M down to -90 dBm at 1M, and transmission power limits of CE <20 dBm at 2.4 GHz. The operating window is 0°C~40°C with storage from -40°C to 70°C, and humidity 10%~90% non-condensing in operation.
