The Archer BE230 is the accessible way into Wi-Fi 7: 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz under 802.11be, with Multi-Link Operation, 4K-QAM, two 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports, WireGuard VPN both ways and EasyMesh compatibility. It brings genuinely new Wi-Fi 7 mechanics rather than a rebadged Wi-Fi 6 design.
Multi-Link Operation, the Real Wi-Fi 7 Feature
MLO lets a compatible Wi-Fi 7 client use the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz links at the same time rather than choosing one and sticking with it. For a video call or a game, that means a transient problem on one band does not drop the session — traffic continues on the other link. Combined with 4K-QAM and Multi-RUs, it is the part of Wi-Fi 7 that changes behaviour, not just peak numbers, and it needs a Wi-Fi 7 client to work.
Two 2.5 Gbps Ports on an Entry Wi-Fi 7 Router
Wired networking is a 2.5 Gbps WAN port, a 2.5 Gbps LAN port and three 1 Gbps LAN ports — multi-gig on both sides at a price where Gigabit-only is still common. The BE230 is EasyMesh-compatible rather than OneMesh, so it can network with EasyMesh devices from other vendors as well as TP-Link's — though TP-Link notes failed connections may result from firmware differences between vendors, and that EasyMesh support is still being developed on some models. HomeShield adds IoT protection, malicious site blocking, intrusion prevention, DDoS prevention and a network scanner. A USB 3.0 port serves FTP, media and Samba shares.
