PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

TP-Link 16-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch (TL-SG116) - 5 Years Local Warranty

The TL-SG116 is a sixteen-port Gigabit desktop switch in a slim 286 mm steel case with a Kensington-style security slot — a rare feature at this level, and the reason it suits open-plan and public-facing positions. IGMP Snooping, 802.1p/DSCP QoS and a 4.1 Mb packet buffer make it a better fit for media traffic than a basic desktop switch.

Sixteen Gigabit Ports Without a Rack

Sixteen 10/100/1000 Mbps ports with Auto-Negotiation and Auto-MDI/MDIX fit into a 286 x 112 x 25 mm case just 25 mm tall. That is a genuinely desktop-sized unit for a port count that normally forces a rack, so it works behind a reception counter, on a shelf in a studio, or inside shallow furniture where a 180 mm-deep rack switch will not go. Rubber feet are supplied in the box.

Physical Security Lock and Steel Housing

Unlike most switches in this class the TL-SG116 publishes a physical security lock point, so the unit can be cabled down where it sits in the open. Combined with the low profile and the external power adapter, that makes it a practical choice for retail floors, meeting rooms, exhibition stands and shared studios — places where a switch is visible and reachable rather than locked in a cabinet.

IGMP Snooping and QoS for Media Traffic

IGMP Snooping keeps multicast streams on the ports that asked for them instead of flooding every port, which matters for IPTV, digital signage, IP intercom and AV-over-IP. 802.1p/DSCP QoS gives priority handling to marked voice and video traffic, and 802.3x flow control plus a 4.1 Mb packet buffer absorb bursts. Green Technology trims power on idle ports and short links.

23.8 Mpps Forwarding, 8K MAC Table, Fanless

A 23.8 Mpps packet forwarding rate and an 8K MAC address table cover a busy sixteen-port segment, and jumbo frames up to 10 KB help NAS and backup traffic. There is no fan: maximum consumption is 10 W and heat dissipation 34.1 BTU/h, so the switch is silent on a desk. Store-and-forward switching validates frames before forwarding them.

Ideal For

Singapore offices, studios, classrooms and retail sites that need sixteen Gigabit ports on a desk or shelf rather than in a rack, especially where the switch is in the open and needs to be physically secured. Supplied by SourceIT with local Singapore warranty, GST invoice and project pricing on request.

Frequently Asked Questions — TL-SG116

How does it differ from the TL-SG116E?

The TL-SG116 is fully unmanaged. The TL-SG116E is the Easy Smart version, which adds a web interface with VLANs, port mirroring and link aggregation. If you need VLANs, choose the E.

Does it supply PoE?

No. The TL-SG116 does not supply PoE on any port, and it is not itself PoE powered — it uses the supplied 12 VDC adapter.

Can it be rack mounted?

TP-Link publishes no mounting row and supplies no rackmount kit with this model; it is specified as a desktop switch with rubber feet.

Why does IGMP Snooping matter here?

It stops multicast video from being flooded to every port, which keeps IPTV, digital signage and AV-over-IP streams from saturating the rest of the segment. On an unmanaged switch it works without any setup.

What warranty does SourceIT provide?

Five years local Singapore warranty, in line with TP-Link's replacement warranty policy for unmanaged Gigabit switches. Every unit sold by SourceIT comes with a GST invoice.
