Smart-Managed Gigabit Switching Built for Small Business
The HPE Networking Instant On 1830 8G (JL810A) is a smart-managed Layer 2 Gigabit switch from HPE's Instant On range, the small-business line designed to be set up and run without a dedicated IT team. It provides 8 x 10/100/1000 RJ-45, with a switching capacity of 16 Gbps and throughput of 11.90 Mpps.
HPE positions the 1830 series as an affordable, easy-to-deploy switch for small businesses that need VLANs, traffic prioritisation and basic security but do not want the licensing and configuration overhead of an enterprise switch.
Manage It from the Instant On App, the Cloud Portal or a Local Web GUI
Instant On switches are set up and monitored from the HPE Networking Instant On mobile app or the Instant On cloud portal, with no extra licence or subscription fee. If you prefer to keep management on-site, the switch can instead be run from its local web GUI, which supports up to five HTTP/HTTPS sessions.
The same app manages Instant On access points and Secure Gateways, so a small office can run its wired and wireless network from one place.
Powered by an Upstream PoE Switch or Its Own Adapter
The 8G model ships with an external power adapter, but port 1 is a Class 3 PoE powered-device port: it can also be powered by an upstream PoE switch, which makes it convenient for extending the network to a meeting room, reception desk or classroom where there is no spare power socket.
Layer 2 Features Small Networks Actually Use
HPE lists VLANs for segmenting guest, staff and device traffic, IEEE 802.1p and DSCP-based QoS so voice and video get priority, LACP link aggregation (up to 16 trunks of up to 8 ports), 802.1D STP and 802.1w RSTP, IGMP v1/v2 snooping, LLDP and LLDP-MED, jumbo frames up to 9216 bytes, MAC- and IP-based access control, storm control, automatic denial-of-service protection and TPM-based security.
