APC Replacement Battery Cartridge #163
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
APC Replacement Battery Cartridge #163 (APCRBC163) - 2 Years Local Warranty
The Cartridge for the Back-UPS Pro BR1600SI
The APCRBC163 is APC's factory replacement battery tray for the Back-UPS Pro BR1600SI, the 230 V 1600 VA / 960 W tower we sell for Singapore offices. Schneider Electric's Back-UPS replacement-battery reference for the 230 V market names the pairing directly. It is the highest-capacity cartridge in APC's 302 mm two-block Back-UPS Pro enclosure at 9.4 Ah and 5.85 kg.
Restoring the Runtime a 960 W Load Depends On
A BR1600SI protecting a workstation, a small NAS and a network stack is typically running somewhere near half its rated capacity, where an aged battery shows up first as a shortened warning window rather than an outright failure. Fitting a fresh APCRBC163 returns the unit to its rated runtime at that load — it does not extend it beyond the original rating, and no cartridge will.
Back-UPS Pro Batteries in a Singapore Climate
Singapore runs a 230 V / 50 Hz supply that is among the most reliable in the region, but the PUB grid still sees voltage dips during the monsoon storm season, and year-round humidity of 80% and above is hard on sealed lead-acid chemistry. A UPS battery in a Singapore comms cabinet or server room commonly reaches the end of its useful life sooner than the same battery would in a temperate climate, which is why a scheduled cartridge replacement matters more here than the calendar alone suggests.
A Back-UPS or Back-UPS Pro in a Singapore home office, retail counter or reception desk usually sits in ambient room air rather than a cooled cabinet, and it spends nearly all its life on float charge waiting for an event that may come twice a year. That combination — warm, humid, rarely cycled — is precisely the one that ages sealed lead-acid quietly, so the first sign of trouble is often the UPS failing its self-test rather than any change you would notice day to day.
Assembled and Ready to Fit
The cartridge arrives complete, with its two blocks and internal link made up and its connectors fitted, so the exchange is a slide-out, slide-in operation. Supplied on a GST invoice with local Singapore warranty.

Compatibility & Runtime
Confirmed fitment for the 230 V market — the one that matters in Singapore.
- BR1600SI — APC Back-UPS Pro 1600 VA, 960 W, tower, 230 V. Named in Schneider Electric's Back-UPS replacement-battery reference for Europe and the 230 V market.
Also confirmed, for 120 V equipment. Schneider's reference for the USA and Canada additionally names the BR1500MS2, BGM1500 and BGM1500B-CA. Schneider's own compatibility widget for the part shows a count of three against its US catalogue, which matches that list exactly — a useful consistency check.
A model we have deliberately not claimed. We also stock the BR1600MI, which is a different build from the BR1600SI despite the shared VA rating. Schneider does not name it against this cartridge in any document we could verify, so we have not listed it. If you have a BR1600MI, ask us and we will confirm its cartridge before you order.
This tray is shared — the part number is the only reliable identifier. The APCRBC160, 161, 162 and 163 all use the same 302 x 66 x 109 mm enclosure and the same carton, differing only in the cells inside. Measuring will not distinguish them; read the label.
About the voltage figure. Schneider Electric markets this cartridge with a "12V" rating, which is the rating of one battery block inside the tray rather than the tray as a whole. This cartridge shares its exact enclosure and carton with the APCRBC161, for which Schneider's own product data sheet states a nominal 24 V across two blocks, and its net weight sits in the same two-block band. The host UPS that Schneider names for it publishes a 24 V battery bus. We therefore describe it as a 24 V two-block cartridge and say openly that Schneider does not print that figure against this part number — it is drawn from Schneider's documents for the UPS and for the identical sibling tray. What matters for ordering is the part number, which is unambiguous.
A correction to what this page used to say. The previous copy gave 12 V, 9 Ah and approximately 3.1 kg in a 159 x 102 x 76 mm box. The correct figures are 24 V, 9.4 Ah and 5.85 kg in a 302 x 66 x 109 mm enclosure — the published weight was understated by close to half.
Can I change it myself? The APCRBC163 ships fully assembled with its connectors fitted, so the physical exchange is a slide-out, slide-in operation and no tools are needed. Schneider Electric does not publish a statement for this part about whether it may be changed while the equipment is energised, so we do not make that claim. The installation guide packed in the box is the authority on whether the unit must be shut down first — read it before you start, and if you would rather not do it yourself we can arrange for it to be done.

A word on weight. APC replacement battery cartridges range from about 2.5 kg for a single-block Back-UPS part to over 30 kg for a large Smart-UPS On-Line tray. The net weight in the specification table above is the figure to use when you plan handling, lift assistance and courier booking. A great many published weights for these parts, in reseller catalogues and in APC's own syndicated feed data, are badly out and usually far too low. Treat a weight you find elsewhere with suspicion, and if you need a certified figure for freight or for a lifting assessment, ask us.

Why there are no direct PDF links here. Schneider Electric's public download host redirects between domains and has repeatedly returned a different cartridge's document than the one requested. Rather than publish a link that may hand you the wrong specification, we link the Schneider landing pages above, which are stable and always resolve to the correct document. If you need the PDF itself for a tender, a service contract or an audit file, email sales@sourceit.com.sg and we will send the current revision for your exact part number.
Frequently Asked Questions — APCRBC163
I have a Back-UPS Pro BR1600SI. Is this the right cartridge?
Yes. Schneider Electric's Back-UPS replacement-battery reference for the 230 V market names the APCRBC163 for the BR1600SI. That is a confirmation against the exact 230 V model sold here rather than a North American equivalent.
I have a BR1600MI. Is it the same?
We do not know, and we are not going to guess. The BR1600MI and the BR1600SI share a VA rating but are different builds, and Schneider does not name the BR1600MI against this cartridge in any document we could verify. Send us the model and serial number and we will confirm the correct part with the distributor.
Is it 12 V or 24 V?
24 V, across two blocks. Schneider's product name says 12 V 9.4 Ah, which is the rating of one block. At 5.85 kg in an enclosure it shares with the 24 V APCRBC161, this is plainly a two-block cartridge. Schneider does not print 24 V against this part number, so we have shown you the reasoning rather than presenting it as a quoted specification. The 9.4 Ah capacity is Schneider's own and is correct.
How do I know this is the right cartridge for my UPS?
Match the part number, not the shape. Several APC cartridges share an identical tray and identical external dimensions while carrying different cells, different voltages and different retention hardware, so measuring the old one tells you very little. Open the UPS battery compartment and read the label on the cartridge you are removing, or check your UPS model's documentation for the APC replacement battery part number it names. If the part number on your old cartridge reads APCRBC163, this is the one. If you are unsure, send us your UPS model and serial number and we will confirm it in writing before you order.
How is it different from the 160, 161 and 162?
Only in the cells. All four share the same 302 x 66 x 109 mm enclosure and carton. This is the largest of the four at 9.4 Ah and 5.85 kg; the 161 is 9 Ah at 5.13 kg, the 160 is 7.2 Ah at 4.45 kg and the 162 is 6.5 Ah at 4.04 kg. They are not interchangeable — go by the part number.
Will a fresh cartridge give me longer runtime than I had before?
It will restore the runtime the UPS was rated for at your load, which is what an aged battery no longer delivers, and in practice that often feels like a large improvement. It will not exceed the original rating. The Back-UPS Pro BR range does not accept external battery packs, so if you need materially more runtime the answer is a larger UPS — we can size one against your actual load.
How long will the new cartridge last?
APC does not publish a service-life figure for every cartridge, and where it does the figure is a range rather than a promise, because sealed lead-acid life is driven by ambient temperature and by how often the battery is actually discharged. As a working rule for Singapore, a cartridge in an air-conditioned server room will outlast one in a warm riser or an unconditioned comms cabinet, and every sustained rise in operating temperature shortens the life meaningfully. Plan a replacement cycle rather than waiting for the UPS to report a failed battery during an outage.
Does it come with a Singapore warranty and a GST invoice?
Yes. Every APCRBC163 cartridge sold by SourceIT comes with local Singapore warranty and a GST invoice; APC backs the APCRBC163 with a 2-year manufacturer warranty.
