The RBC11 is the genuine APC replacement battery set for the SU48XLBP Smart-UPS XL external battery pack. Schneider's data sheet describes it in its own words as "composed of two seperate battery cells", and the legacy APC data sheet for the part publishes its rating outright: 816 volt-amp-hours.

That single number settles what the cartridge actually is. 816 VAh at 17 Ah gives 48 V, and Schneider's own host product is named "APC Smart-UPS XL Battery Pack 48V, 816VAh" — an exact match. Four 12 V 17 Ah blocks, arranged as two cells, at a total net weight of 24.27 kg.

This is a legacy APC part number. The systems it serves were sold through the late 1990s and 2000s and many are long out of production, but a great deal of that equipment is still running in Singapore plant rooms and comms cabinets, and it still needs batteries. That installed base is exactly why we stock this cartridge.

24 kg, Not 3 kg: Read This Before You Arrange Delivery

Weight matters more than buyers expect on this range. A sealed lead-acid tray is dense, and the figure below is Schneider's own published net weight, not an estimate. Schneider publishes 24.27 kg net and 26.68 kg shipping for the RBC11, across two independent document revisions. Any figure you may have seen in the low single-digit kilograms describes one bare battery block, not this cartridge.

Practically: this is a two-person lift, it will not go up a ladder, and it needs a goods lift, not a passenger one, in most Singapore buildings. Tell us the delivery floor and the access route when you order and we will plan around it. The old set weighs the same on the way out.

Keeping Legacy Smart-UPS XL Systems Alive

An external battery pack is only as good as the cells inside it, and a pack that has been sitting on float charge for years will pass a casual inspection and then fail under load. On a Smart-UPS XL protecting a rack of legacy but business-critical equipment, that failure arrives at exactly the wrong moment — during the PUB-side dip the pack was bought to cover.

Singapore is hard on lead-acid batteries. Ambient temperature sits near the top of the useful band all year, and every few degrees of sustained heat shortens a sealed lead-acid battery's service life measurably. A comms cabinet or riser room that runs warm will age a cartridge faster than an air-conditioned server room will. Plan replacement on the calendar instead of waiting for the UPS to fail its self-test, and keep the unit out of direct sun and clear of the warm-air discharge from whatever it is protecting. If the pack has never been re-celled and the equipment behind it still matters, it is overdue.

Compatibility & Runtime

What the RBC11 fits

SU48XLBP — APC Smart-UPS XL Battery Pack, 48 V, 816 VAh. Schneider's compatibility record for the RBC11 shows exactly one compatible product and it is an external battery pack; the SU48XLBP is the Schneider pack whose published 816 VAh / 48 V rating matches the RBC11 exactly. The pack itself was discontinued in June 2022, which is precisely why the replacement cells are still wanted.

An external battery pack sits on the DC side of the UPS, so it is not tied to 120 V or 230 V mains. The SU48XLBP was sold against both, which means an RBC11 is equally at home behind a 230 V Smart-UPS XL in Singapore as behind a 120 V one elsewhere.

Host UPS models we will not claim

Aftermarket cross-reference lists commonly name the SU2200, SU2200XL, SU3000, SU24XLBP and SUA24XLBP against this cartridge. We have not found a Schneider document that does, so we are not publishing them as compatible. Schneider's own "UPS to RBC Cross Reference List" would settle it — the landing page is linked below, though the file itself sits on a download host we do not trust. Send us your pack and UPS model numbers and we will check them with the distributor rather than guess.

A note on the RBC55

Schneider publishes the same 173 x 142 x 183 mm cell dimensions and the same 24.27 kg net and 26.68 kg shipping weights for the RBC55. The two-cell construction Schneider states for the RBC11 is the most likely explanation of that shared record. If your paperwork names one and your equipment the other, ask us before ordering.

Runtime

Fresh cells restore the pack to the runtime the system was rated for at a given load. They do not extend it, and runtime falls steeply as load rises. Replace all four blocks together and from one batch — a new block paired with aged ones is dragged down to the condition of the oldest and the money is largely wasted.

The cartridge arrives assembled with its connectors already fitted. Schneider ships an installation guide in the box and that guide, not this page, is the authority on how the swap is done on your particular battery pack and whether it can be done with the unit running. Read it before you start, and keep the old cartridge intact for recycling.

Sealed lead-acid cartridges must not go into general waste in Singapore. Bring the exhausted cartridge back to us with the replacement and we can arrange collection through a licensed recycler, or dispose of it through your own NEA-licensed collector.

Aftermarket lists name various SU2200 and SU3000 models as well; we have found no Schneider document confirming those and do not publish them.

Do I have to replace all the blocks at once?
Yes, and from the same batch. A string is only as good as its weakest block. Fitting one new block alongside three aged ones pulls the new one down to the condition of the old ones within months and wastes most of what you spent.

How long will it last?
Schneider publishes no expected service life for this part, so we will not quote one. Sustained heat is what kills sealed lead-acid, and Singapore provides it. A pack in a warm riser will age considerably faster than one in a conditioned server room. Schedule replacement on the calendar rather than waiting for a failed self-test.

Is it hot-swappable?
We do not claim it. Schneider's hot-swap guidance covers Smart-UPS units with user-replaceable batteries; this part serves an external battery pack, and the installation documentation in the box is the authority on how the work is done on your system. Read it before you start.

What about disposal?
