The Tapo C420S1 is the starter package for TP-Link's wire-free range: one 2K QHD battery camera and the Tapo H200 hub that runs it, in one box. It is the right buy when you are starting from nothing, because the hub it includes will go on to carry up to four cameras as you expand.
One Camera and the Hub, Ready to Expand
The system ships with a single Tapo C420 camera, battery fitted, and the Tapo H200 hub with its power adapter and an RJ45 Ethernet cable. Buying the hub as part of the system is what makes this the sensible entry point: additional C420 cameras are sold on their own, and up to four connect to the one hub, so the second and third angles cost you a camera rather than a whole system.
2K QHD With No Cable Run to the Camera
The camera records at 2560 x 1440 on a 1/3 inch sensor through a fast 3.18 mm f/1.61 lens, covering 113 degrees at 15 or 20 fps with H.264 compression. Nothing runs to it but the mounting screws, so a gate pillar, a boundary wall or a side passage with no power within reach becomes a viable camera position.
Night Vision to 15 Metres and Months Per Charge
An 850 nm infrared array reaches up to 49 ft, or 15 m, in the dark. TP-Link's published battery figure is up to 180 days, measured in its laboratory at 10 to 20 trigger events per day. On-device detection separates motion from person, pet and vehicle events and pushes a notification, with snapshots and clips available through the optional Tapo Care subscription.
IP65 Camera, Indoor Hub
The camera is rated IP65 against water and dust at 110.6 x 64.2 x 64.2 mm and is rated for -20 to 45 degrees Celsius. The H200 hub is a small indoor unit at 71.45 x 71.45 x 31.25 mm that sits by your router on its own 9 V supply, with its own SYNC and Reset buttons for pairing cameras.

TP-Link publishes the local-storage capacity for this system only in its feature copy, which states that recordings save to the hub-installed microSD card up to 256 GB; no siren decibel rating, battery capacity in mAh, net weight or certification row is published for this system, so none is claimed here. The product page states that a microSD card is purchased separately and that up to four cameras connect to one hub.
Compatibility & Software Support
The Tapo C420S1 is set up and operated through the Tapo app, which manages every Tapo camera, plug, bulb and sensor in one place. It is a consumer Wi-Fi system and is not part of the Omada or VIGI business ranges: it cannot be adopted into an Omada Controller and it is not managed by VIGI NVR software.

Frequently Asked Questions — Tapo C420S1
What is actually in the box?
One Tapo C420 camera with its battery fitted, and one Tapo H200 hub, along with both power adapters, an RJ45 Ethernet cable and the camera's mounting hardware. A microSD card is not included.
Can I add more cameras later?
Yes. Up to four Tapo C420 cameras connect to one H200 hub. Additional cameras are bought on their own, so expanding does not mean buying a second hub until you pass four.
Should I buy this or the C420S2?
If one angle is all you need now, the C420S1 gets you the hub at the lowest entry cost and you can add cameras later. If you already know you need two positions covered, the C420S2 includes both cameras in one package.
What warranty covers the battery?
The system carries two years local Singapore warranty as an outdoor camera. TP-Link Singapore's replacement warranty policy limits all internal batteries and battery packs to six months, so the camera's built-in battery is covered for six months.
