PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

TP-Link 8-Port 10G Desktop/Rackmount Switch (TL-SX1008) - 5 Years Local Warranty

The TL-SX1008 puts eight 10 Gigabit ports in a metal 1U chassis for 160 Gbps of switching capacity, with no configuration to do. Every port auto-negotiates five speeds from 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps, so existing Gigabit and 2.5G equipment connects alongside 10G servers and NAS units. Plug it in and it works.

Eight 10G Ports, 160 Gbps of Capacity

All eight ports run at a full 10 Gbps simultaneously, giving 160 Gbps of switching capacity and a published packet forwarding rate of 119.0 Mpps. That is the profile for a small render network, a video edit suite pulling 4K footage off shared storage, or a rack where several servers and a NAS all need line-rate 10G between them. Frames are handled store-and-forward with a 32 K MAC address table and 10 KB jumbo frame support for large sequential transfers.

Five Speeds on Every Port, Over Cat5e

Each port auto-negotiates 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, 5 Gbps and 10 Gbps with auto-MDI/MDIX, so nothing has to be segregated by speed and no crossover cables are needed. TP-Link states the switch works with standard Cat5e cabling, which matters in a building already wired for Gigabit — you may reach multi-gigabit speeds on existing runs rather than recabling the floor. TP-Link notes that actual speeds vary with cable quality and type, client limitations and environmental factors.

Unmanaged: Nothing to Configure, Nothing to Break

There is no web interface, no console and no firmware to maintain. The TL-SX1008 is plug-and-play — you connect it and it forwards traffic, which is exactly what you want in a studio, a workshop or a small comms cupboard where nobody is going to log in and manage a switch. TP-Link lists 802.3X flow control and 802.1p/DSCP QoS as built-in behaviours that operate without setup, easing congestion when several 10G devices contend for the same path.

Metal Chassis, Desktop or Rack

The TL-SX1008 ships with a rackmount kit and rubber feet, so it takes a 1U rack position at 294 × 180 × 44 mm or sits on a desk or shelf. The casing is metal with a heat-dissipating design, cooled by a single fan with intelligent speed adjustment — it ramps only when the switch needs it rather than running flat out. Maximum power consumption is 31.2 W, and it is rated for 0 °C to 50 °C operation at 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity.

Ideal For

Singapore studios, design and video teams, small server rooms and engineering workshops that need line-rate 10G between servers, NAS units and workstations without the overhead of a managed switch. Supplied by SourceIT with local Singapore warranty, GST invoice and project pricing on request.

TP-Link's published notes, reproduced

Multi-gigabit speeds "5× faster speeds refer to the speeds compared to standard 1G ports. The actual speeds may vary due to cable quality and type, client limitations, and environmental factors."
Transfer time claims Video transfer estimates assume all devices performing at maximum capacity; actual transfer time varies.

TP-Link publishes no MTBF figure, no heat dissipation row and no PoE capability for this model, so none is claimed here. No hardware version is stated on the product page consulted, so none is given.

Compatibility & Software Support

The TL-SX1008 is an unmanaged switch. It has no web interface, no console port, no firmware to upgrade and no management software of any kind — it forwards traffic as soon as it is powered and connected.

Omada Controller Adoption Not supported — this is an unmanaged switch and cannot be adopted into an Omada Software, Hardware or Cloud-Based Controller. It can still sit within an Omada network and carry traffic between Omada devices; it simply will not appear as a managed device in the controller.
Management Interface None — plug-and-play operation only
Firmware No user-upgradable firmware
Connected Devices Any 100 Mbps, 1G, 2.5G, 5G or 10GBASE-T device; ports auto-negotiate speed and MDI/MDIX
Cabling Standard Cat5e or better. Achievable multi-gigabit speed over a given run depends on cable quality, type and length.
PoE Not supported — the TL-SX1008 does not supply power over Ethernet

Frequently Asked Questions — TL-SX1008

Will it work over my existing Cat5e cabling?

TP-Link states the switch works with standard Cat5e. Whether a given run reaches 10G depends on its length and condition — shorter, cleaner runs do better, and the ports will negotiate down to 5G, 2.5G or 1G rather than failing. Cat6 or Cat6a is the safer choice for new cabling.

Can I manage it or put it on VLANs?

No. The TL-SX1008 is unmanaged: no web GUI, no console, no VLANs and no controller adoption. If you need segmentation, PoE or central management, ask us about the Omada managed range instead.

How does it compare to the TL-SX105?

Port count and form factor. The TL-SX105 is a five-port desktop unit; the TL-SX1008 has eight ports, a metal rack-ready chassis with a rackmount kit included, a larger 32 K MAC table and 160 Gbps of capacity.

Is it noisy?

It has one fan with intelligent speed adjustment, so it ramps with load rather than running at a fixed speed. It is a rack-oriented switch rather than a silent fanless desktop unit — for a quiet room, tell us the environment and we will suggest an alternative.

What warranty does SourceIT provide?

Five years local Singapore warranty. Every TL-SX1008 sold by SourceIT comes with a GST invoice.
