The Tapo S200D is a wireless remote control in the shape of a wall switch. It is battery powered and carries no mains wiring, so it mounts anywhere on the supplied wall plate and dims or switches your Tapo devices through a Tapo hub. At 86 x 86 mm it reads as a normal switch plate while needing no wall box, no electrician and no circuit work. A Tapo hub is required.

A Switch Where You Want One, Not Where the Wiring Is

Because nothing behind the S200D is live, it goes where the switch should have been: the far side of a bed, the top of the stairs, beside a sofa, next to a door that was never wired. That is the practical case for a battery remote over a wired dimmer - you are not moving cables, cutting into walls or making good afterwards, and in a rented flat you are not altering the property at all.

It Controls Tapo Devices, It Does Not Switch the Mains

This is a control, not a load switch. The S200D sends its commands to a Tapo hub, and the hub drives the Tapo devices you have assigned - a Tapo smart bulb, light strip or socket. The lamp keeps its own power; the S200D changes what the hub tells it to do. If you need a unit that sits in the wall box and switches the circuit itself, that is a different product class.

A Sub-1 GHz Link, Not Wi-Fi

The S200D reaches its hub on 868 MHz / 922 MHz rather than joining your wireless network, which is why a switch-sized control can run on a single CR2032 coin cell and why several of them add nothing to your router's client count. The condition is the usual one for the Tapo sensor family: a Tapo hub must be on site, because the remote has no independent route to the app.

Wall Plate and Both Tapes in the Box

TP-Link supplies a wall plate, a CR2032 cell, anti-slip tape and double-sided tape, so the unit can be fixed to a wall or left sitting on a surface. The body is 86 x 86 x 23.7 mm - the footprint of a standard plate - and the working range is 0~40 °C. TP-Link attaches one caveat to the product's feature set, reproduced verbatim: "Some features may require software upgrades or subscriptions."
