The Tapo C260 is an indoor pan/tilt camera that records in 4K 8MP and knows who is at home. Face recognition tags family and friends so you are alerted to strangers, the head turns 360° horizontally and 116° vertically to follow people and pets, and a physical privacy mode hides the lens inside the housing whenever you want it off.
4K 8MP With a Starlight Sensor
Video is captured at 3840 x 2160 on a 1/2.7 inch starlight CMOS sensor behind a 4.3 mm F1.6 lens, with 3DNR, WDR and 18x digital zoom. 850 nm IR LEDs with an auto-switching IR-cut filter give night vision up to 40 ft (12 m).
Face Recognition and Free Local AI
On-device AI recognises and tags faces, so alerts can focus on people it does not know. It also detects motion, people, vehicles, pets, line crossing and tampering, plus baby crying, a cat's meow, a dog's bark and glass breaking, with processing done locally and no subscription required.
Pan/Tilt With Smart Motion Tracking
Pan and tilt cover 360° horizontally and 116° vertically, and smart motion tracking follows people and pets to keep them in view. Physical privacy mode turns the lens into the housing with one tap in the Tapo app, and customisable block zones keep private areas out of the picture.
Dual-Band Wi-Fi, Local Storage, RTSP and ONVIF
The C260 joins 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n). Footage records to a microSD card of up to 512 GB with Tapo Care cloud storage optional, and RTSP and ONVIF support lets you record the stream in third-party software. A 90 dB siren and two-way audio with noise cancellation round it out.

Compatibility & Software Support
The Tapo C260 is set up and operated through the Tapo app, which manages every Tapo camera, plug, bulb and sensor in one place. It is a consumer Wi-Fi camera and is not part of the Omada or VIGI business ranges: it cannot be adopted into an Omada Controller and it is not managed by VIGI NVR software.

How is the C260 different from the Tapo C250?
Both are 4K 8MP indoor pan/tilt cameras with 18x digital zoom and 40 ft night vision. The C260 adds face recognition, a physical privacy mode, a starlight sensor and dual-band 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi. The C250 adds AI auto-zoom tracking, a PIR motion sensor and a louder 96 dB siren, and connects on 2.4 GHz only.
How does face recognition work?
The camera recognises and tags the faces of family and friends on the device itself, so you can be alerted when someone it does not know appears. TP-Link quotes up to 99% accuracy from its own testing; results vary with lighting and angle.
Can I physically block the lens?
Yes. Physical privacy mode turns the lens into the housing with one tap in the Tapo app, and block zones can mask specific areas of the scene.
