TP-Link Gigabit WDM Media Converter (TL-FC311B-2) - 5 Years Local Warranty
The TL-FC311B-2 is the "B" half of TP-Link's 2 km Gigabit WDM pair, transmitting at 1310 nm and receiving at 1550 nm over a single single-mode strand. It is the unit that completes a TL-FC311A-2 link, and the sensible choice for in-building and short campus runs where 20 km of optical budget is not needed.
One Strand, One Gigabit Link
A Gigabit SC fibre port on one side, a 10/100/1000 Mbps Auto MDI/MDIX RJ45 port on the other, and Wavelength Division Multiplexing in between: the TL-FC311B-2 sends at 1310 nm and receives at 1550 nm so that both directions share one strand of 9/125 µm single-mode fibre. Where a conventional pair would consume two strands, this consumes one — the practical difference between fitting another link into an existing riser and scheduling a cabling project.
Two Kilometres Is the Right Size for Most In-Building Links
TP-Link rates this model to a maximum of 2 km. That covers a riser between floors, two blocks of the same development, or a run from the main distribution frame to a remote plant room or gatehouse — the majority of fibre links in a Singapore commercial or industrial building. Reach beyond that is available in the 20 km version of the same pair; specifying it for a 200 m riser simply costs more without changing how the link performs.
Check the Wavelength Before You Order
WDM converters are directional and sold individually. This is the B unit: 1310 nm transmit, 1550 nm receive. The far end must be an A unit doing the reverse, and TP-Link names the TL-FC311A-2 as a product that cooperates with this model. Both ends must also share the same distance rating. If you are adding to an installation someone else built, send us the model number already on site and we will confirm the correct partner before you order.
No Configuration, No Firmware, Wide Temperature Range
The converter is a transparent Layer 1 bridge — no IP address, no web interface, no firmware to maintain — with PWR and Link/Act LEDs on the front panel. It measures 94.5 x 73.0 x 27.0 mm and runs from a 5 V/0.6 A external adapter. Its published 0-50 °C operating range is wider than the 0-40 °C typical of TP-Link's desktop switches, which matters where the converter ends up in an unventilated riser or cabinet.
