PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

TP-Link Omada Pro 48-Port 2.5G Stackable L3 Managed PoE++ Switch with 6 25G Slots (S6500-48MPP6Y) - 5 Years Local Warranty

The S6500-48MPP6Y is a 48-port 2.5G PoE++ access switch built for multi-gigabit access points and high-power edge devices: every RJ45 port runs at up to 2.5 Gbps and delivers up to 60 W of 802.3bt power, with six 1/10/25G SFP28 uplinks and full Layer 3 routing. Its PoE budget depends on the power supply modules fitted — 701 W as shipped, up to 1,484 W with two PSM900-AC.

48× 2.5G PoE++ Ports for Multi-Gigabit Access Points

All 48 RJ45 ports are 2.5G and IEEE 802.3bt/at/af compliant, delivering up to 60 W per port. That suits multi-gigabit Wi-Fi access points and other high-draw devices that a 30 W PoE+ port cannot fully power, while the 2.5G link keeps a modern AP from being bottlenecked by a Gigabit uplink.

PoE Budget Scales With the Power Supplies You Fit

TP-Link's datasheet gives the PoE budget per power-supply combination: 701 W with the single PSM900-AC shipped by default, 328 W with one PSM500-AC, 752 W with two PSM500-AC, 1,118 W with one PSM500-AC plus one PSM900-AC, and 1,484 W with two PSM900-AC. The second module is a separate purchase, so size the order to the total PoE load — a fully loaded switch drawing 1,484 W needs two PSM900-AC.

Six 25G Uplinks and 12-Unit Stacking

Six 1/10/25G SFP28 slots connect to the aggregation layer or stack the switch; up to 12 units stack in standalone mode with up to 300 Gbps of stack bandwidth across six stacking ports. Stacking runs only over 25G DAC or 25G SFP28 modules. Switching capacity is 540 Gbps per unit and forwarding 401.7 Mpps.

Layer 3 at the Edge

OSPFv2 (16 instances), OSPFv3, BGP, IS-IS with IPv6 and BFD, RIP and RIPng, VRRP v2/v3, PBR, uRPF and PIM-SM/DM/SSM multicast routing let the access stack route locally. Table sizes are 10,240 IPv4 network routes (shared with IPv6), 6,100 host routes and 7,680 dynamic ARP entries, with ECMP across up to 32 next hops.

MACsec and Campus-Grade Access Security

MACsec (gcm-aes-128, gcm-aes-256) encrypts links at Layer 2, alongside 802.1X with MAB and guest VLAN, RADSEC, TACACS+, dynamic ARP inspection, IPv4/IPv6 source guard, port security up to 64 MAC addresses per port and Secure Boot. Four hot-swappable fans and two hot-swappable power supply bays keep the switch serviceable in place.

Centralized Management Through Omada Pro

TP-Link positions the S6500-48MPP6Y for its Omada Pro platform: the switch is managed centrally from the Omada Pro Cloud-Based, Hardware or Software Controller, with the Omada App and cloud access working through that controller. Zero-Touch Provisioning lets a replacement or new unit be pre-configured in the Omada Pro Cloud-Based Controller and pull its configuration on first boot, so a site does not need an engineer on hand with a console cable. Where a controller is not wanted, the switch is fully manageable on its own through the web GUI, CLI (console or telnet) and SNMPv1/v2c/v3.

Ideal For

Campus access layers deploying multi-gigabit Wi-Fi access points, schools, hospitals, hotels and offices powering high-draw PoE devices from one stackable, routed switch. Supplied by SourceIT with local Singapore warranty, GST invoice and project pricing on request.

TP-Link Footnotes

*The total PoE budget varies with the power supply modules.

**Ships with one PSM900-AC module by default, and another field-replaceable redundant power supply requires a separate purchase.

‡These functions require the use of the Omada Pro SDN Controller. Zero-Touch Provisioning requires the use of the Omada Pro Cloud-Based Controller.

△Supports 12 units of physical stacking in standalone mode.

***No more than two 10G RJ45/SFP+ modules (SM5310-T) are supported, and they can only be inserted into SFP+ slots 49&53.

****The 25G SFP28 slots support stacking only through 25G DAC/25G SFP28 modules rather than 10G DAC/10G SFP+ modules.

The specification table labels the row "PoE+ Ports" while giving up to 60 W per port and 802.3bt compliance, and the product name calls the ports PoE++; both are reproduced as TP-Link publishes them. The PoE budget figures per power-supply combination are from TP-Link's datasheet; the product page states only "up to 1484 W".

Compatibility & Software Support

The S6500-48MPP6Y is an Omada Pro switch. TP-Link lists the Omada Pro controllers — not the standard Omada SDN controller — as its centralized-management platform, so plan the controller with the switch. Its 802.3bt ports also power Omada access points regardless of how the APs themselves are managed.

Omada Pro SDN Controller Supported — centralized management through the Omada Pro Cloud-Based Controller, Omada Pro Hardware Controller or Omada Pro Software Controller
Omada App Supported — through an Omada Pro Controller
Cloud Access Supported — through an Omada Pro Controller
Zero-Touch Provisioning Supported — requires the Omada Pro Cloud-Based Controller
Standalone Management Supported — web-based GUI, CLI (console port, telnet) and SNMPv1/v2c/v3
Stacking Mode Limit Up to 12 units in standalone mode
Transceivers & Cabling 1/10/25G SFP28 slots (no more than two SM5310-T 10G RJ45/SFP+ modules, in slots 49 and 53 only); stacking only through 25G DAC/25G SFP28 modules rather than 10G DAC/10G SFP+ modules.

TP-Link's note: these functions require the use of the Omada Pro SDN Controller. Zero-Touch Provisioning requires the use of the Omada Pro Cloud-Based Controller.

Frequently Asked Questions — S6500-48MPP6Y

Does the S6500-48MPP6Y need an Omada controller?

No. The S6500-48MPP6Y can be run standalone through its web-based GUI or the CLI (console port or telnet). TP-Link lists the Omada Pro Cloud-Based, Hardware and Software Controllers for centralized management; the Omada App and cloud access work through an Omada Pro Controller, and Zero-Touch Provisioning requires the Omada Pro Cloud-Based Controller. Tell SourceIT which controller your site already runs and we will confirm the fit before you order.

Which power supply ships with the S6500-48MPP6Y, and how much PoE does it give?

The S6500-48MPP6Y ships with one PSM900-AC module, which TP-Link rates at a 701 W PoE budget. A redundant or additional module for the second bay is a separate purchase. TP-Link's datasheet gives 1,484 W with two PSM900-AC, 1,118 W with one PSM900-AC plus one PSM500-AC, 752 W with two PSM500-AC and 328 W with a single PSM500-AC. Send SourceIT your device list and we will size the power supplies to the PoE load.

What warranty does SourceIT provide?

Five years local Singapore warranty. Every S6500-48MPP6Y sold by SourceIT comes with a GST invoice.

Is stock held locally?

Campus-class switches such as the S6500-48MPP6Y are typically brought in on indent rather than held on the shelf. Ask SourceIT for the current lead time before committing to a project date.

Can SourceIT quote this for a project or tender?

Yes. Send the bill of materials and we will quote the whole build — core and aggregation switching, access switches, power supply modules, transceivers and DAC cables — with local warranty and support.

Is this model available for project orders?

Yes. TP-Link supplies this model for project deployments; contact SourceIT with your bill of materials for pricing and lead time.
