The OC220 is Omada's compact hardware controller: a small metal appliance that runs the Omada SDN controller on-premises so no PC or server has to stay powered on. It sits above the OC200 in capacity, managing up to 100 access points, and unlike a software controller it can be powered straight from a PoE switch port and mounted out of the way.

Manages Up to 100 APs, 20 Switches and 10 Gateways

A single OC220 adopts and provisions up to 100 Omada access points, a maximum of 20 Omada switches, 10 Omada gateways and up to 2 DeltaStream GPON OLTs. Note the trade-off Omada documents: each GPON OLT added reduces the switch allowance by five. That capacity envelope makes the OC220 a fit for a mid-size campus, a hotel, or a multi-floor office where the AP count is the binding constraint, rather than for a single-room deployment that a standalone AP would cover.

On-Premises Control With Complete Data Privacy

Because the controller runs on hardware you own and sits inside your own LAN, device configuration, client data and network telemetry stay on site. That matters for organisations with data-residency obligations or a policy against cloud-hosted management planes, and it means the network keeps being managed — provisioning, policy, captive portal authentication — even when the internet link is down. It is the same argument for a hardware controller over a cloud-only one, but without the drawback of a PC running a software controller that somebody eventually reboots or patches.

Free Cloud Access on Top of Local Management

Running on-premises does not mean losing remote access. The OC220 offers free cloud access, so administrators can reach the same controller through the Omada app or the web UI from anywhere, with no subscription attached to that capability. In practice this gives you the day-to-day convenience of cloud management — checking a site from a phone, making a change without a VPN — layered on a controller whose authoritative state still lives on your own hardware.

Metal Chassis, Two Gigabit Ports and USB 2.0 Backup

The OC220 is built around a durable metal casing rather than plastic, with a powerful chipset, two Gigabit Ethernet ports and a USB 2.0 port. The USB port is there for data backup, which is the detail that matters most on a hardware controller: the controller database holds every site's configuration, and being able to back it up locally to removable storage protects you from having to rebuild a network by hand after a hardware failure.

Powered by 802.3af PoE or Micro USB, Wall or Desktop Mounted

Power comes either from 802.3af PoE — so the controller draws from a switch port you already have, with no adapter and no free socket needed — or from Micro USB at DC 5V with a minimum of 1 A. At 100 × 98 × 25 mm (3.9 × 3.9 × 1.0 in) it sits on a desk or mounts on a wall, which means it can live inside a comms cabinet next to the switch that powers it instead of occupying rack space or a shelf.
