The EAP683 LR is Omada's AX6000 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 ceiling access point built around 4x4 MIMO on both radios and a 2.5 Gigabit PoE+ uplink. It is the high-concurrency choice in the Wi-Fi 6 ceiling range, rated for 256 clients per band across roughly 185 m², and it is managed centrally alongside every other Omada device on site.

AX6000 Across Two Radios With 4x4 MIMO on Both

The EAP683 LR delivers up to 4804 Mbps on 5 GHz and 1148 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. What distinguishes it within the Wi-Fi 6 ceiling range is that both radios run four spatial streams rather than two, using four 5 dBi antennas on 5 GHz and four 4 dBi antennas on 2.4 GHz. More streams means more simultaneous MU-MIMO transmissions and a stronger signal at the edge of a cell, which is what lets one unit hold 256 clients per band without the throughput collapsing.

2.5 Gigabit PoE+ Port So the Wire Keeps Up

A 6 Gbps radio budget behind a single Gigabit port would throttle the AP in heavy use, so the EAP683 LR uses a 2.5 Gigabit PoE+ port. One cable carries both the multi-gigabit uplink and 802.3at power; maximum draw is 20.43 W on the EU model and 23.69 W on the US model, and a 12V/2A DC input is available as an alternative (the adapter is not supplied). For sites with 2.5G PoE+ switching already in place, no additional power infrastructure is needed.

Wi-Fi 6 Scheduling: OFDMA, 1024-QAM and HE160

Wi-Fi 6 is mostly about efficiency rather than headline speed. OFDMA splits a channel into resource units so the AP can serve many small transmissions in one go instead of queueing them — the single biggest gain in a room full of phones and laptops. 1024-QAM packs more bits into every symbol for clients with a clean signal, the 4x longer OFDM symbol improves range and resilience, and HE160 gives 160 MHz channels where the spectrum allows. Band steering, load balancing, airtime fairness and beamforming round out the set.

Multi-Site, L3 and Zero-Touch Management

Under an Omada controller the EAP683 LR supports multi-site management, L3 management and a management VLAN, so one controller can run several buildings or several clients from one console. Zero-Touch Provisioning through the Omada Cloud-Based Controller means an AP can be shipped straight to site, plugged in, and configured remotely — no engineer visit for staging. SNMP v1/v2c/v3, SSH, HTTPS, local and remote syslog and email alerts are all supported for integration with existing monitoring.

WPA3, 802.1X and Guest Segmentation

The EAP683 LR supports WPA3, WPA2 and WPA Personal and Enterprise with 802.1X, captive portal authentication for guest onboarding, SSID-to-VLAN mapping, wireless MAC address filtering, wireless isolation between clients and rogue AP detection. Up to 16 SSIDs are available, eight per band, which is enough to separate corporate, guest, IoT and voice traffic on the same hardware without extra APs.
