PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
TP-Link Omada 5-Port Gigabit Easy Managed Switch with 4-Port PoE+ (ES205GP) - 5 Years Local Warranty
The ES205GP is the PoE member of Omada's five-port Easy Managed pair: four 802.3at PoE+ ports sharing a 65 W budget, one uplink, and the VLAN, QoS and IGMP features you would expect from a managed switch — in a fanless 100 mm desktop box. It powers a pair of access points or a small camera cluster and can be adopted into an Omada Controller alongside the rest of the network.
Four PoE+ Ports, 65 W to Share
Ports 1 to 4 supply 802.3at PoE+ and 802.3af PoE, with a maximum of 30 W on any single port and 65 W across the switch. In practice that budget comfortably runs two Wi-Fi 6 access points, or a small group of IP cameras and a door reader, from one mains outlet — no injectors, no separate power at the ceiling. Port 5 is a plain Gigabit port for the uplink. TP-Link notes that its PoE budget figures come from laboratory testing and that actual available power varies with the connected devices and the environment.
250 Metre PoE Reach for Awkward Runs
The ES205GP can deliver PoE up to 250 m, roughly two and a half times the usual 100 m limit, which reaches a camera at the end of a car park or an access point in a far corner of a warehouse. TP-Link is explicit about the trade: ports running in the extended mode drop to 10 Mbps, and actual distance depends on cable quality. For a camera or a door controller that is usually an easy trade; for an access point it is not, so plan the extended ports deliberately.
PoE Auto Recovery Without a Site Visit
A powered device that has locked up normally needs someone to unplug it. The ES205GP supports PoE Auto Recovery, which detects an unresponsive device and power-cycles its port automatically. TP-Link specifies that Auto Recovery operates in standalone mode, while under controller mode the switch supports manual PoE recovery — so on a controller-managed site the restart is a click in the Omada interface rather than a drive to the premises.
Managed Features in a Five-Port Box
Despite its size the ES205GP carries 802.1Q tag VLAN with up to 32 VLAN groups across 4K VIDs, alongside MTU and port-based VLAN — enough to separate cameras, guest Wi-Fi and staff traffic on one switch. QoS classifies port-based, 802.1p or DSCP into eight priority queues with weighted round robin, plus bandwidth control and storm control. Loop prevention shuts down a port patched back into the switch before a broadcast storm spreads, and IGMP snooping v1/v2/v3 with fast leave keeps multicast on the ports that asked for it.
Adopt It Into Omada, or Run It Alone
The switch works standalone through its own web GUI, with DHCP client and cable diagnostics built in. Adopted into an Omada Cloud-Based, Hardware or Software Controller, it joins the rest of the network under one set of policies — TP-Link notes that automatic device discovery, batch configuration, batch firmware upgrading and unified configuration all require the controller, and that Zero-Touch Provisioning specifically requires the Cloud-Based Controller. The Omada app gives phone-based monitoring on the same basis.
Ideal For
Singapore retail units, clinics, small offices and remote sites needing a handful of powered devices — access points, cameras, door readers or IP phones — on a switch that can be adopted into an existing Omada network. Supplied by SourceIT with local Singapore warranty, GST invoice and project pricing on request.

TP-Link's published notes, reproduced
| Controller-dependent features | "These functions require the use of the Omada SDN Controller. Zero-Touch Provisioning requires the use of the Omada Cloud-Based Controller." |
| PoE Auto Recovery | "This switch supports PoE Auto Recovery under Standalone Mode (managed separately without a controller) and supports manual PoE Recovery under Controller Mode (centrally managed with a controller)." |
| QoS | "QoS and Priority Mode are supported under Standalone Mode." |
| PoE budget | "PoE budget calculations are based on laboratory testing. The actual PoE power budget is not guaranteed and will vary due to client limitations and environmental factors." |
| 250 m PoE transmission | "The speed of the ports that support 250m PoE transmission will be downgraded to 10 Mbps. Actual transmission distance may vary depending on the quality of the cables." |
TP-Link publishes no MTBF figure, no maximum power consumption and no heat dissipation row for this model, so none is claimed here.
Compatibility & Software Support
The ES205GP is part of the Omada ecosystem: gateways, switches and access points are managed together from one controller, under one set of policies, with one view of the network. The cloud, app and batch features listed below require the device to be adopted into an Omada Controller.
| Omada SDN Controller | Supported — adopt and manage centrally from the Omada Software Controller, Hardware Controller or Cloud-Based Controller |
| Omada App | Supported — requires an Omada Hardware, Cloud-Based or Software Controller |
| Zero-Touch Provisioning | Supported — requires the Omada Cloud-Based Controller specifically |
| Standalone Mode | Supported — configurable on its own via its web GUI, with QoS, Priority Mode and PoE Auto Recovery available |
| Powered Devices | Any 802.3af or 802.3at compliant PD within the 30 W per-port and 65 W total budget |

Frequently Asked Questions — ES205GP
How many access points will the 65 W budget run?
Two Wi-Fi 6 ceiling APs is the usual comfortable answer, but it depends entirely on the model. Send us the AP part number and we will work the budget out properly — TP-Link is clear that published PoE budgets come from laboratory testing and that real-world power varies with the device and the environment.
What is the difference between the ES205GP and the ES205G?
PoE. Both have five Gigabit ports and the same switching, VLAN, QoS and IGMP feature set. The ES205GP adds 802.3af/at PoE+ on ports 1 to 4 with a 65 W budget; the ES205G has none and runs from a 5 V adapter instead of a 53.5 V one.
Is the 250 m PoE mode a free upgrade?
No. TP-Link states that ports running the extended 250 m mode drop to 10 Mbps, and that actual distance depends on cable quality. It suits a camera or a door controller; it is usually the wrong choice for an access point.
Does it need an Omada Controller?
No. It runs standalone through its own web GUI. Adopting it into an Omada Software, Hardware or Cloud-Based Controller is what unlocks automatic device discovery, batch configuration, batch firmware upgrading and app access — Zero-Touch Provisioning needs the Cloud-Based Controller specifically.
What warranty does SourceIT provide?
Five years local Singapore warranty. Every ES205GP sold by SourceIT comes with a GST invoice.
