PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

TP-Link Omada 3 Meters 10G SFP+ Direct Attach Cable (SM5220-3M) - 5 Years Local Warranty

The SM5220-3M is a 3 metre passive twin-axial cable assembly with a 10G SFP+ connector moulded on each end. It drives a full 10 Gigabit Ethernet link over silver plated copper with no optics, no patch lead and no configuration — the cost-effective way, in TP-Link's own words, to connect within a rack and across adjacent racks.

Three Metres: Within the Rack and Across to the Next One

Three metres is the length that reaches beyond a single cabinet. It covers a top-of-rack switch down to equipment at the bottom of the same rack with cable management to spare, and it crosses into the adjacent rack — the two cases TP-Link names on the product page. Where the 1 m part is for neighbouring rack units, this one is for the rack row. The length is fixed at manufacture, so the cable path should be measured, slack included, before the part is chosen.

Passive Copper Instead of Two Optics and a Patch Lead

A direct attach cable collapses three components — two SFP+ transceivers and the fibre between them — into one assembly. There is nothing to align, clean or diagnose optically, no DDM readings to interpret, and only one part number to stock. Because the cable is entirely passive it draws no power of its own and adds no thermal load to the switch, which matters when a dense aggregation switch has every SFP+ slot populated.

Silver Plated Copper Conductors at a Full 10 Gbps

The published data rate is 10 Gbps and the conductor is silver plated copper, the standard construction for twin-ax at this speed: silver plating lowers conductor loss at the high frequencies a 10G signal occupies, which is what makes a passive copper run viable at all. The plug measures 57.5 × 13.55 × 8.55 mm, the ordinary SFP+ footprint, so it seats in the same cages as an optic.

Specified From 0 to 70 °C in Operation

Operating temperature is 0–70 °C with 10–90% non-condensing humidity, and storage is rated from -40 to 80 °C at 5–90% humidity. Those are figures for the hot aisle of a working rack rather than an office desk, and they leave headroom above the temperature a well-managed Singapore comms room holds. The assembly has no active components to age or fail, so its service life is governed by handling and bend radius rather than by optics.

Ideal For

Singapore data centres, server rooms and Omada deployments joining switches, servers or storage inside a rack or across adjacent racks at 10 Gigabit, where a fibre pair and two optics would be more cost and more parts than the distance warrants. Supplied by SourceIT with local Singapore warranty, GST invoice and project pricing on request.

Compatibility & Software Support

A direct attach cable is a passive assembly: two SFP+ plugs permanently terminated on a twin-axial copper cable. It carries no firmware, needs no licence, does not appear in an Omada Controller as a device and cannot be configured — the switches at each end own their ports and report the link. Adopting those switches into an Omada Software, Hardware or Cloud-Based Controller is what puts the link under central management.

Slot Type SFP+ at both ends
Data Rate 10 Gbps
Maximum Distance 3 m — fixed by the cable, which cannot be extended or re-terminated
Transceivers Needed None — the cable replaces a pair of SFP+ optics and the patch lead between them
Omada Controller Not adopted directly; managed through the switches it connects

TP-Link does not publish a per-switch compatibility list for this cable. Send us the two switch models you intend to join and we will confirm before you order rather than infer it from a sibling product.

Frequently Asked Questions — SM5220-3M

How long is the SM5220-3M?

Three metres. TP-Link publishes the overall length as 3,000 mm (118.11 in), with a plug footprint of 57.5 × 13.55 × 8.55 mm. For shorter runs inside one rack, the TL-SM5220-1M is the 1 metre part.

Do I need SFP+ transceivers as well?

No. The plugs at each end of the cable are the transceiver interface. A direct attach cable replaces two optics and the fibre patch lead between them, which is where most of its cost saving comes from.

Can the cable be shortened or extended?

No. It is a passive twin-ax assembly terminated at the factory, so the published length is the only length. Measure the cable path, including slack and cable management, before choosing between the 1 m and 3 m parts.

Will it work in my switch?

It needs an SFP+ slot at each end. TP-Link publishes no per-switch compatibility list, so send us both switch models and we will confirm before you order.

What warranty does SourceIT provide?

Five years local Singapore warranty, under Omada's replacement warranty tier for accessories. Every cable sold by SourceIT comes with a GST invoice.

Can SourceIT quote this for a project?

Yes. Send the bill of materials and we will quote the whole Omada build — switching, optics, direct attach cabling, gateways and access points — with local warranty and support.
