All 24 PoE ports are 802.3af/at compliant and can each draw up to 30 W, backed by a 384 W system budget. That is the ES228GMP's real point of difference over the 250 W ES228GP: it supports roughly twelve full-draw PoE+ devices simultaneously rather than eight, so a camera estate of PTZ domes, IR illuminators or heated outdoor housings does not have to be power-budgeted port by port. The port layout is 24 PoE+ gigabit RJ45 ports for powered endpoints, plus two ordinary 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports and two gigabit SFP slots reserved for uplinks. Keeping the uplinks separate from the PoE block matters: you never have to sacrifice a powered port to reach the core, and the SFP slots let you run fibre where copper's 100-metre limit or electrical isolation between buildings rules out RJ45. Standard Ethernet stops at 100 metres. With Extend Mode enabled, the ES228GMP delivers PoE and data up to 250 metres over the same copper run, which covers car parks, perimeter fences, warehouse yards and long corridors without an intermediate cabinet, power feed or media converter. The trade-off is explicit and worth planning around: ports running in extend mode drop to 10 Mbps, which is ample for a single surveillance stream but not for general data. Loop Prevention and Port Isolation Without Learning a CLI

Automatic Loop Prevention with loopback detection catches the single most common cause of a downed small network — a patch lead plugged into two ports of the same switch — and shuts the offending port before a broadcast storm takes the segment out. Port Isolation separates traffic at the port level so a guest, camera or tenant segment cannot see the others, giving useful containment without configuring a routed VLAN design. Up to 32 VLAN groups (4K VID range) are available, with port mirroring for one-to-one and many-to-one traffic capture.

QoS can be applied port-based, by 802.1p tag or by DSCP marking, across 8 priority queues scheduled with Weighted Round Robin — so live camera and voice streams are forwarded ahead of backups and file transfers instead of competing with them. IGMP Snooping v1/v2/v3 with fast leave confines multicast video to the ports that actually asked for it rather than flooding every port, and bandwidth control plus storm control cap what any single device can consume. 15 KB jumbo frame support reduces overhead on large transfers.

Managed From a Browser, the Omada App, or a Central Controller

The ES228GMP is configured through a web-based GUI with automatic device discovery, so a small site can be brought up with no controller at all. Where centralisation is wanted, it joins Omada's cloud-based, hardware or software controller for management via the web or the Omada app, with Zero-Touch Provisioning through the cloud controller letting a remote unit self-configure on first connection. A free Essentials tier of the cloud controller is available. The chassis is rackmountable metal with a physical security lock point.
