The SG3428X is Omada's fanless 24-port L2+ managed switch with four 10G SFP+ uplinks — the workhorse access switch for an office floor that needs VLANs, 802.1X and 10G fibre back to the core, but not a full routing stack. At 23.6 W and completely silent, it can sit in a comms cupboard or an open-plan office without a complaint.

Four 10G SFP+ Uplinks Behind 24 Gigabit Ports

Twenty-four 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports feed four 10G SFP+ slots, giving 128 Gbps of switching capacity at a 95.23 Mpps forwarding rate. That ratio matters: a 24-port switch with only Gigabit uplinks starves under load, whereas four 10G slots leave room for a redundant pair of fibre uplinks and still have capacity spare. A 16 K MAC address table, 12 Mbit packet buffer and 9 KB jumbo frames complete the forwarding specification.

Fanless and Silent, With a Physical Security Lock

The SG3428X has no fan at all. Maximum power consumption is 23.6 W at 110 V/60 Hz with 80.52 BTU/h of heat dissipation, so it runs cool enough to be passively cooled in a 440 x 180 x 44 mm rackmount chassis — half the depth of the stackable L3 models. A physical security lock slot lets it be secured where the rack is shared or open.

L2+ Static Routing Between VLANs

The switch supports 4K VLAN groups and 48 IPv4/IPv6 static routes, so traffic between VLANs can be routed locally rather than sent back to the gateway. MAC VLAN, Protocol VLAN, Private VLAN, Voice VLAN and GVRP cover segmentation, with link aggregation, spanning tree and 802.3x flow control underneath. Where dynamic routing protocols are required — OSPF, VRRP, ECMP — the SG6428X is the L3 model with the same port layout.

802.1X, DHCP Snooping and Storm Control at the Edge

Access-layer security covers IP-MAC-Port binding, DHCPv6 snooping, 802.1X authentication, DoS defence and storm control, with HTTPS and SSH for management sessions. Eight priority queues with 802.1p CoS and DSCP marking, SP and WRR scheduling and bandwidth control keep voice and video ahead of bulk traffic — the practical requirement on any floor that carries IP phones or video conferencing.

Adopted Into Omada, or Managed on Its Own

The SG3428X joins an Omada Cloud-Based, Hardware or Software Controller alongside the gateways and access points, so configuration, firmware and monitoring happen once for the whole site rather than switch by switch. Zero-Touch Provisioning is available with the cloud controller. Outside a controller it remains fully manageable through its web GUI, CLI over the RJ45 or Micro-USB console port, and SNMP v1/v2c/v3.
