The SM5110LSA-10 is a 10GBase-BX bi-directional SFP+ transceiver in Omada's module and cable accessory line. Using WDM over a single strand of single-mode fibre, it carries a full 10.3125 Gbps up to 10 km on one core instead of the usual pair. It is the A end of a matched pair and must be deployed opposite an SM5110LSB-10 at the far end.

One Fibre Strand Instead Of Two, Via WDM

A conventional 10G optic burns two fibre cores, one for each direction. The SM5110LSA-10 uses wavelength division multiplexing to put both directions on a single strand: it transmits at 1330 nm and receives at 1270 nm, with the far-end module doing the reverse. For anyone leasing dark fibre, working within a congested riser, or trying to stretch an existing duct, this halves the fibre count for the same link - which is usually the difference between reusing what is already in the ground and paying to pull more.

Full 10.3125 Gbps Over 10 km Of Single-Mode Fibre

The module runs at 10.3125 Gbps, the standard 10GBase-R line rate, and is specified for a maximum distance of 10 km over 9/125 micrometre single-mode fibre terminated in a simplex LC/UPC connector. Transmit optical power is rated between -8.2 and -0.5 dBm with receiver sensitivity better than -14.4 dBm and an overload point above 0.5 dBm, giving a workable optical budget for a campus or inter-building link without adding amplification. It is built to IEEE 802.3ae and the 10GBase-BR specification.

Hot-Pluggable With Digital Diagnostic Monitoring

The transceiver conforms to the SFP+ multi-source agreement and the SFF-8431, SFF-8432 and SFF-8472 specifications, so it seats in a standard SFP+ cage and can be inserted or removed while the switch is running, without a reboot or a maintenance window. SFF-8472 also brings Digital Diagnostic Monitoring: the switch can read live transmit power, receive power, temperature, supply voltage and bias current from the module. On a long single-fibre link that telemetry is the fastest way to tell a degrading splice from a failing optic.

Low Draw, Wide Thermal Range, Omada Switch Compatibility

The module runs from the 3.3 V supplied by the SFP+ cage and consumes no more than 1 W, so it adds negligible thermal load when several are populated in the same switch. It is rated for 0 to 70 degrees Celsius operation and -40 to 85 degrees storage, with 10 to 90 percent non-condensing operating humidity, in a 57 x 14 x 12 mm body. TP-Link lists compatibility with Omada switches including the SG3428X and SG3452X. It is CE, FCC and RoHS certified.
