The TL-SM5310-T turns a 10G SFP+ cage into a copper RJ45 port. Where a fibre run is unnecessary, or the far end is a copper-only 10G server NIC or NAS, this module keeps the link inside the structured cabling you already have — carrying 10GBASE-T over Cat6a and stepping down through 5GBASE-T, 2.5GBASE-T, 1000BASE-T and 100BASE-TX when the device at the other end asks for it.
Copper 10 Gigabit Without Rebuilding the Cabling
Multi-gigabit switches increasingly ship with SFP+ cages rather than copper 10G ports, which is efficient for fibre uplinks but awkward when the device you need to reach only has an RJ45 socket. The TL-SM5310-T closes that gap. It presents a single 10G RJ45 port with a data rate of 10.3 Gbps, so a 10G server, NAS or workstation NIC plugs straight into the switch over ordinary twisted-pair cable — no media converter, no patch panel change and no separate power supply.
Five Rates on One Module, Each With Its Own Cable Requirement
TP-Link publishes distance limits per rate, and they matter when you plan a run. 10GBASE-T needs Cat6a or better and reaches a maximum of 30 m. 1000BASE-T, 2.5GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T run on Cat5e or above to the full 100 m, and 100BASE-TX runs on Cat5 or above to 100 m. The module supports IEEE 802.3, 802.3ab and 802.3bz alongside 802.3an, so mixed-speed access layers negotiate rather than fail.
DDM Monitoring and a Hot-Swappable SFP+ Footprint
The module is hot-pluggable in a standard SFP+ footprint, so it can be fitted or swapped without powering down the switch. It reports Digital Diagnostic Monitoring data for temperature and voltage, which gives an administrator a way to see whether a module is running hot or being under-supplied before it starts dropping a link. A TX Disable function is also supported for controlled shutdown of the transmit path.
Metal Enclosure, 3.3 V Supply and a Commercial Temperature Range
A fully metallic enclosure keeps electromagnetic emissions low in a densely populated switch chassis, where a dozen modules may sit side by side. The module draws its 3.3 V supply from the host port. It is rated for 0–70 °C operating and -40–85 °C storage, and carries FCC, CE and RoHS marks. Physical size is 67.4 x 13.75 x 13.8 mm, the standard SFP+ form factor.

Compatibility & Software Support
The TL-SM5310-T is a passive module: it is driven by the host switch port, and has no firmware or licence of its own. What matters is the cage it goes into.

Frequently Asked Questions — TL-SM5310-T
How far will it run at 10 Gbps?
Up to 30 m, and only over Cat6a cabling or better. That is TP-Link's published limit for this module. If you need more than 30 m at 10G, a fibre transceiver such as the SM5110-SR or TL-SM5110-LR is the better choice.
Will it negotiate down for slower devices?
Yes. The module supports 10GBASE-T, 5GBASE-T, 2.5GBASE-T, 1000BASE-T and 100BASE-TX. At those lower rates the reach is the full 100 m on Cat5e or above, or Cat5 or above for 100BASE-TX.
Will it work in my switch?
It needs a 10G SFP+ cage, and TP-Link does not publish a per-switch compatibility list for it. Tell us the switch model and we will check before you order.
What warranty does SourceIT provide?
